Something I haven't seen brought up much is the financial aspect of all of this.

Erin gets pregnant by CL.

Erin knows CL is planning on getting out and moving to Alaska, far far away from her.

Erin tells him that she may leave her husband and he had better be prepared to pay child support for the next 18 years.

CL realizes that she could soak him for a ton of money, if the baby is in fact his. $800 mo. (+-)

CL starts to plot and plan on how to rid himself of this problem. (Was his wife included in this planning ? ) Unknown.

CL finds a mine shaft, takes pictures of it on his phone, lures Erica to go with him for a day of target shooting.

Finding those pictures might have been why law enforcement continued to search so hard at joshua tree.

We all know the rest of the story. Erin may have died due to the oldest motivation known to man--GREED

Interesting theory steelman. I will only add that I do believe Chris and Nicole were in it together. Perhaps this financial aspect (rather than plain old jealousy) was the reason why Nicole wanted Erin dead. Nicole probably felt that it was unfair that her family would have to suffer financially for Chris and Erin's mistake. In any case, I agree with you that it was mostly about the money.

the HCG (preg hormones) can stay in the body up to 4-6 weeks, however, years back, i miscarried in April and was still showing + ept tests up until late Aug. I thought i may be pregnant again but after Dr. did blood test he confirmed it was the trace HCG still in my system that the EPT was picking up.

I wonder what type of test they used on EC when they did the pregnancy test the say she went to the emergency room with a migraine (and found out she was pregnant.) Which I believe was on Father's Day, when JC found out, if I'm remembering correctly. MOO

Could actually have been MORE than 18 years if the kid went to college and remained dependent on their family.

IMO money was a HUGE motivator!

Rose, I agree with your assessment in your first sentence. However, regarding him not wanting to shoulder the responsibility himself, I think he might try to keep his wife out of it in order to keep one parent out of prison for his daughter, to give her some semblance of a normal life. What do you think of this scenario, that I mentioned a few weeks ago: He has thought for a week or so that it is his baby. But, at the neighborhood gathering, CL realizes that JC knows Erin is pregnant and is happy about it. Suddenly he knows that Erin has been sleeping with her husband and that is his motive. Based on your assessment of CL, do you think he could be driven to a jealous, murderous rage in that instance? I am on the fence. "You wanted me to leave my wife and daughter for you, and you've been sleeping with your husband?!"

Your theory is intriguing. It's possible that Chris murdered Erin in a jealous rage but it's really hard for me to ignore these two points:

1. Nicole's statements about 'no body, no case' etc.

2. We've been told that more arrests are likely.

Probably a blood test, I've never had a medical professional put much stock in a urine test". Especially if they were considering treatment/medication that could be harmful to a baby.

i keep reading this dishonrable discharge, i believe that is worse case scenario, also i want to share my dirty laundry which will give some insight into the emotions that must've been goin on, and also wondering if y'all realize the Lees and Corwins lived NEXT DOOR to each other up until Erin went missing ... In my unfortunate experience, my ex and i were both active airforce, he was having an affair with a civilian woman married to same rank airman, I could tell the way they acted around each other, and all our friends lied for them. Then,,, the husband found out and wanted to kill my husband, adultery charges were brought up on my husband, he lost a stripe. no dishonorable or any discharge or any loss of benefits, but he got an article 15 and losing a stripe is losing paygrade. It was awful, humiliating and it affected me so much, i was 20 and serving overseas, the girl didn't get in any trouble except for whatever wrath her husband gave her. Last we heard they were being transferred, good, I couldn't stand seeing her. It took a long time to forgive my husband, and i eventually divorced him. I can't imagine nicole and JC found out about the affair and had to live next door to each other, I didnt live next door to the mistress, but would see her on base and when I saw her, i wanted to kill her, i felt like she betrayed our friendship and humiliated that she stole my husband, as if she had something over me. Them living next door to each other is what really blows me away on this case. Especially since both wives were stay at home housewives types and former friends and HAD to see each other coming and going.I can't imagine them all being at the same party the night before Erin disappeared. I wonder if JC and NL were allies in a sense--i didnt know the mistress's husband that well, so we didn't talk but in this case, it came about that the neighbor told NL who then told JC about the affair. Anyway, just wanted to share hope this gives some insight into the drama of base life.

I don't have time to go back and look this morning, but I swear I remember reading multiple different times that the L's were not at the party that night? MOO

"Corwin told the friend, who lives in Tennessee, that Lee was worried his wife might divorce him and prevent him from spending time with his child if she knew Corwin was pregnant, the affidavit says."

well in the last video of the friends of Erin at the ranch they all knew she was pregnant again and so happy about it since she had miscarried before. and since NL also frequented the ranch/lived next door to Erin she must of heard about the pregnancy. but she may not have thought it was her husbands.

I think that Nicole (if involved) used some mighty threats... 'I will divorce you', 'You'll never get to see our daughter again' etc. to get him to go along with the murderous plan. It sounds as though he loved his daughter very much. I don't think this man would have gone to the extent of murdering his 'girlfriend' unless he felt (was brain-washed) that not doing so would jeopardize his daughter's life (financially) and their relationship permanently (Nicole would keep him from his daughter unless he did exactly what he was told). Hope this makes sense!

I still don't see money as a huge motivator for CL. I think it was more likely that, if CL didn't want to start a life with Erin, she would have just kept pretending the baby was JCs and go on with their lives. I personally doubt she ever threatened him with wanting child support. And, given the money he spent on his hobbies, he doesn't strike me as a man who would get murderous over money.

Without reinstating him for a court martial, he'll be able to keep his honorable discharge. However, if he can't serve out his IRR, his family will be losing their benefits. It irks me this guy can commit a murder while a United States Marine, and get to keep his honorable discharge status because the body of his victim wasn't found until after he separated from the Marines.

So I really thought they could change his discharge status and benes if the murder was committed while he was active duty and they could prove that. That might be why he waited until just before discharge--because it would be harder to prove when crime was committed ( in ref to the questions as to "why now" earlier) --along with the whole leaving the area thing. There have been numerous examples of retired officers who were disciplined post retirement for things that occurred while they were ad and received reduced benes. Granted they were not enlisted. I believe it would be possible to strip him of his benefits and change to dishonorable without the trial for homicide.

So I posted earlier about NL involvement and haven't changed my thinking yet:

1. I do not think NL was aware beforehand. I had read something yesterday about her potentially doing internet searches but I can't find an "authoritative source" for that.

2. I am convinced that the whole red car incident was NL stumbling on EC car after she realized both ec and cl we're gone at the same time. I still think either IM or JC was driving but not sure about that. Makes more sense that IM was. My guess is that we will find that the sighting was concurrent with, but not directly related to the murder. Weird coincidence.

3. I do think car was moved since we have only heard about jeep tire tracks and NOT small red car tire tracks. I wonder if single set of footprints matches CL's? I think those footprints leading to the jeep are important. Nora Charles and I discussed in last thread and she did a cool footprint experiment if you all want to go back.

4. I think NL figured it all out that night when she confronted husband and the cover up lies started. She was panicked-they were packing up, leaving the area and then he adds this stress-she probably just went in to autopilot and the vented to IM about what an idiot he is.

5. CL was trying to protect his family. If u read NLs Pinterest sight-it looks like she had miscarried. I'm sure it was tough for their family and then for CL to get someone else pregnant......she would have done everything she could to keep their daughter away. Who wants to deal with another "sibling" from a fathers indiscretion? Thus the source of ec's comment to her friend.

6. NL in court looks like she is just in disbelief. That being said-it sounds like the lawyer was preparing them for something since they consulted him after the potato gun violation-after the search warrants had been made available to them. I'm sure she called him right after the arrest and he has been advising her how to act.

7. I think NL was made an accessory after the fact on purpose by CL--really what could NL have done? The were out of their house and moving back to Alaska. Nl didn't know where body was (maybe-not sure whether he told her or not) just that something bad had happened. Yes-she could have been afraid of him when she stopped to think about it.

8. We don't know whether nl was feeding info to le through IM or other means.

While I don't think she is citizen of the year, I think we have cast her as a villain because of what she said to IM and what IM said to -well-everyone- but it could be because she was pissed about the situation and not because she forced him to kill for her.

Am I missing evidence somewhere?

Hi Rose

I'm thinking the autopsy results will be revealed, after reading this article. I hope she went fast and never saw it coming... but I don't know :frown:

Ramos wasn't able to give many details regarding the case, but he says when those details are released the public will understand why the crime was so awful.

http://www.ktuu.com/news/news/prosec...-wife/27620982

Of course this case is so sad and heartbreaking anyway, but that statement just makes my heart drop. :(

How long after a miscarriage would a pregnancy test still show positive? Or would it?

After an early miscarriage, not long. Later in pregnancy, about a month.

I agree that he seems sharp. I don't think it will be such a cakewalk tho. The shell casings and rebar can be linked back to CL. The tire tracks too. Motive is clear. He did a search on places to hide a body and a friend stated he asked him about hiding a body. EC stated she was going to be with CL that day...thats not even counting IMs statement and evidence we dont know about. I think they have much more evidence....texts...phone pings...DNA....JMOO

At face value I agree. Look at Casey Anthony and OJ Simpson though. Let's hope all loopholes are closed.

Thanks Dmacky :seeya:

I wonder why Ramos refused to say whether the body was burned. I don't even want to imagine the possibility...

Even the most humane method of murdering Erin which would have consisted of shooting her from behind with her being completely unaware...even that is so cruel, so heartless...I hope it wasn't worse than that.

I hope they release the results soon. My imagination does me no good.

I'm thinking shot in the head or stomach (baby). :-(

Child support can be very high, as much as rent in some small cities. It can definitely be a motive for murder for some people. I think it plays a role here, as well as the wrath of NL, possible break in his relationship with his child and the whole affair being made public (all of which are happening anyway.

Also, I think we may find that CL led LE to those specific mines due to his online searches, his phone and/or electronic trail. Etc.

OT, watched a Dateline last night involving college-aged people. The murdered had his phone on Airplane Mode for five hours (during the time of the murder) but LE was able to see he used the Flashlight App for 45 minutes while he would have been burying the body (later found) after buying the "usual" items...shovel, duct tape, etc...all on video. So you never know what LE knows or is holding for later court appearances.

This is the way CL looks to me in photos/videos since his arrest (deer in the headlights/sheepish but peeved look, with NL sitting in the back of the courtroom snapping her gum and looking self-righteous instead of what I think most aggrieved wives would be showing (some level of grief/upset/disgust/concern), that some people have commented on

Respectfully snipped.

This analysis (coupled with Seajay's comments about NL) accurately describes my feelings. Spot on. NL isnt putting on a strong face, rather a guilty one. If this were me, I would be picking up the pieces of my life from hundreds of miles away from CL. She already knows she is with a liar (the affair shows dishonesty in action and word) and you add accused murderer to that and I would be gone before you realize my feet have hit the ground. I wouldn't be moving cross country with my child and sitting in a court room acting like they are wasting my time.

She has to know WHY he did it or she would be frightened of him too.

I would have been gone in January or whenever she first learned of an affair. But maybe he denied it at that time and there was no real proof...but with a pregnancy, there would be proof.

I've asked this, too. If she had a serum pregnancy test, she could have found out she was pregnant very early on.

I was in ER for my kidney and they did a clean catch for pregnancy such.
