In post #383 moonbeams kindly explained that in order to live in base housing as a couple CL would have had to provide written PROOF of the marriage. I'm confident they were married at the time of the crime.

Can anyone provide a LINK to substantiate this claim?

I need to find that link with his extended interview once I'm home and not on my phone unless someone has it. In it Billings also said their cameras weren't working for the search, so they made new ones with better lights.

Wonderful folks, those searchers!!!!!!

Good question... I wonder how early they would be able to measure an embryo or estimate a date. I also wonder about decomp - would the fetus be impacted first, or last? 7 weeks later what would still be there? Ugh it makes me sick to even think about it.

I don't know about the mine's environment there in JT, (I think it was addressed in an earlier thread) but there's usually a temp drop, here it can be 20-40 degrees in a 100 foot mine going fairly straight down. Add the possible noxious gas that would keep critters and parasites away, and being sheltered from environmental factors (rain, direct sunlight, humidity, etc.) I think decomp might not have progressed as rapidly as a body out on the desert floor. IIR, they didn't need dental records to make an ID?
The body could have started to mummify...... there might be far more for the ME to work with.

As well, the biggest factor in decomposition is oxidation, there's hardly any oxygen down there either so that will definitely have been helpful in preserving her body.

Do you happen to know how early they could tell from DNA who the father is/was? Long story but my ex-sister-in-law had to get a prenatal paternity test and they couldn't do it until fairly far into the pregnancy. At say 4 or 6 weeks, could they figure it out? It may not matter but I think that could be a pretty huge factor when it comes to motive, so I am hoping they can tell it's CL's if she was in fact pregnant.

From what I am reading, has to be eight weeks along...for DNA test. I think in this case, if the pregnancy is verified, Erin's friend will be the best witness in telling jury that Erin told him about it, and they were going to "celebrate" yet he was afraid his wife would find out...whatever is in those texts will be important, Imo. Of course the defense will downplay the texts but Imo, they are crucial and the jury is likely to think so as well. After all...she was found out in the desert, where he apparently took for a special day of "hunting".

Gotta remember there's a big difference between a regular paternity test, and a forensic one. Obviously they can't biopsy a live baby, but they can take cells from an embryo after it's death.

Living Situation

Marines who earn less than $2,000 a month and live on base must share a room and a bathroom with another Marine, while those in a higher income bracket without dependents live in a private room, also referred to as a Bachelor Enlisted Quarter (BEC), a dormitory or a barrack. Marines who are married may apply to live off-base in private housing. Bachelor officer quarters, which are intended for either single officers or married officers who do not have their families with them, can be located either on-base or off.

This is talking about off base. It says nothing about requiring written proof of marriage for on base living arrangements.

They said more arrests are possible. What are they waiting for? Is it a now or never type of situation?

Ummm why would CL be worried about his wife finding out abt pregnancy if he doesn't have a wife??? Help an ole lady out pkease

Good point, I think the texts may end up being hugely important.

Agreed... also a big difference between a regular and prenatal test. That's what has led me to have so many questions.

There are some crazy people out there who don't believe in marriage, and don't get married on "principle". These people seem crazy enough to be like that. They might say they're married for show, and so they can stay together while he's enlisted, and get their family off their back. They love each other and think that's the only thing that matters, and "to hell with tradition" etc.

Without a doubt for them to live in base housing, have an ID card, medical care etc his wife and daughter would have to be enrolled in DEERS ( Or USMC version) Tricare and listed in his records. There is no way around this. I am an Army veteran and current spouse to an active duty soldier. All branches of service follow these rules as they are governed by the DoD. Moo

I don't think it is a now or never type of situation. They know where NL is. She is likely with her daughter in AK.

On-base housing builds a secure, tight-knit community among Marine families. Marines with families have the option of living with their families on-base in Military Family Housing.

Again, all he has to do is say "this is my wife and daughter" we want to live on base. She's changed her name, out of state. Who would question it? Where does it say 'copy of marriage contract required'?

I think it has a lot to do with the custody of a minor, if you're married it's not a deal (produce marriage license), if not, enlisted needs to show 50% or more of the custody of the minor (birth certificate). This is just what I heard way back from 1st ex who was USMC, unmarried and 2 kids, living on base.
