"because her owner recently died."
^That's stating it mildly.
WRR's bad publicity came straight out of Megli's mouth. With all the horse rescues out there, it doesn't matter if her operation sinks or swims, there will always be another place for those horses. Would I relinquish a horse to her rescue? Helltothe NO!
Getting publicity for a good cause is one thing, getting it on the coat tails of a murder and enabling the murderer is an entirely different thing.
Megli should put a sign out with "Murderer Chris Lee adopted 2 of our horses and stayed in our bunkhouse, Tours at 10:00, 2:00. 4:00, and 6:00, Photo souvenirs at the Office". Turn the Rescue into a Potato Gun Range.
Great catch on the water intake, Maskedwoman! I had to haul in water for 7 horses, at one point, til I got my well dug (3 1/2 years later). I had 6-50 gallon barrels in the back of my truck, that I filled at the water station every 5-6 days, that provided ALL the water for my critters and 2 kids. The first thing you do buying property out in the boonies is check the water situation. Megli has had that property since 2004. 10 years later, she wants donations for a well? Is this so she can avoid a bill from a local water company? Or is she too dumb to switch out a standard residential 1/4 hp pump for a 3 hp with a few more pressure tanks?
When you get a higher hp pump, you need to drop larger water lines, install reducers, dig trenches, get a dedicated electrical line with a higher amperage........the cost of just "drilling the hole" in California runs between $15-$30@ft., closer to the $30 mark.
And...........
Big Horn Desert View Water is the water company the serves Megli's property, it's just around the corner on Jemez Trail.
Megli is milking the donation wagon for all it's worth. I wonder if she can even DRILL a well on her property? In my county, you can't drill a well if you're in the existing boundaries of a water company unless you get a "Special Use" permit, and get the well site and specs approved by Environmental Services and State Dept. of Water Resources...THAT is incredibly rare.
