They probably didn't ask.

A "criminal" never volunteers information unless it's to totally take LE off on a different track. An "innocent" person DOES

I may not be remembering correctly, so I'm going to go back and read the Probable Cause, but I didn't think LE interviewed NL at first. I was thinking they only talked to CL....when he told LE that he & his wife were acquaintances of EC.....then, when he told them that his wife knew that he & EC were getting too close.

Cause she's too dumb to keep her stories straight?

:silly:

Ummmm......try changing to a different browser? I use Chrome, Firefox, and Rockmelt. If you're using IE.......I just might cry :tantrum:

I don't have anything nice to say about IE......:truce:

I use Firefox and this same thing happens to me pretty regularly. I thank a few posts and boom, "thanks button" disappears until I refresh. The "view first unread" link doesn't work very well for me either. I usually have to back up at least a few posts, if not pages, depending on how fast a thread is moving.

apparently this is tech support day! Why do I get a "message from web" alert when I try to thank some posts but not others?

Would be kind of interesting to make a timeline of CL's "answers" to LE about Erin, "acquaintances, neighbors, fellow rescue person, maybe just a little to friendly, it was just a kiss,..........". CL was just digging himself deeper with each response.

Statement of Probable Cause:
While investigating the missing person, Deputy Mackewen made contact with the Corwin's next door neighbor,
Christopher Lee. Lee denied knowing much about Erin and said he and his wife only knew her as an
acquaintance. The last time Lee spoke to Erin was approximately two months ago. Lee told Deputy Mackewen
he last saw Erin a week ago but they did not speak to each other.

Lee was re-contacted by Deputies Mackewen and Millian. Lee later admitted he became a close friend of Erin.
He said they had previously kissed each other but never had sexual intercourse with Erin. Lee stated his wife
knew he and Erin were becoming too close.

No mention was made of NL (except when CL mentioned her) until this: On 07.01.14.. Homicide Detectives spoke to Lee and his wife Nicole. Nicole was asked about firearms owned by Lee. Nicole told detectives the firearms were kept inside their home in a closet. Nicole described one of the firearms as a .22 caliber rifle.

I may be reading all of this wrong, but it seems to me that July 1 was the first time they interviewed NL, and that's when she told them about the .22.

Ok, kids......come over to the "dark side", try Chrome! Muwahahahaha!!!!
Maybe WS is being wonky on some browsers? I have to correct myself, I use Firefox to pay bills with, NOT on WS's. Rockmelt for Twitter and live feeds, and Chrome for WS.

I think CL claiming he only kissed Erin was because he knew she was pregnant, and that someone might have seen him do that much, but he was hoping to pass off the relationship as nothing more than one foolish kiss. Jmo

Holy moly!

After reading the "Search Warrant" and all that, AGAIN, I got curious about what the big deal was about "potato guns". We used to make those when I was a kid, but we used tennis balls, soup cans, and lighter fluid, later on we used PVC pipe.

http://ultimatespudgun.com/index.php

I can see why California classifies them as a weapon.

Do we know the significance of the potato gun?

Also have we heard anything from NL's or CL's family or friends?

I still believe the only reason they were looking for the potato gun was so they could arrest him and question him. I can only imagine what went on in those sessions while he was being held for that potato gun.

As far as hearing anything from their families or friends, I read one article that mentioned CL's father. It was a simple statement that CL was arrested while CL & NL were on their way home. Otherwise, silence.

Next info in Probable Cause after NL told LE about the .22.
On 07.01.14, a search warrant was served at the residences of Erin and Lee looking for firearms.......
The .22 caliber rifle described by Lee's wife was also not located-

After the search warrant. Nicole was interviewed again about the whereabouts of the .22 caliber rifle she said
was in her residence. During this interview she told detectives Lee took the rifle from his Jeep Cherokee and
took it to the "ranch".

Here's some info on the legalities of Potato guns, specifically California:

I have a couple of thoughts on the potato gun.

1. If he had mentioned it to EC, is it possible he could have used this to entice her to go shooting with him? I can see a conversation where he mentioned he had one or was making one. EC says, "Really? I have never seen one of those." So CL sets up the date to go "shooting".

2. Maybe this was a part of the homicide, maybe used to commit the crime of murder.

continuing the O/T that I've been wanting to ask FOREVER! but some threads show the "view last post" at the top, and some do not. Does anyone know what is the reason for showing/not showing for that?

TIA

Since we do not know how Erin was killed, there is always that possibility. It was one of the weapons that LE was looking for. It was listed in the Search Warrant along with a .40 caliber firearm.

PROPERTY TO BE LOCATED:

WEAPONS FIREARMS

Home made destructive device known as a "potato gun".

.40 caliber firearm.

Ammunition and all components of ammunition including the casings, primers, and
items used to hold the ammunition to include a magazine, speed loader, moon clips,
bandoliers, and boxes or cases.

Projectiles fired from any of the weapons listed above.

Receipts, holsters, gun cleaning kits or photographs depicting suspects in possession
of firearms, should those weapons no longer be present on the premises.

Thanks for the reply. FYI--your font choice is really hard to read. Perhaps it would be better to just bold regular font.

We know that spent .22 bullets were found both at the crime scene and in CL's jeep. That makes it pretty important, even if it wasn't used for the actual murder.

I agree that the .22 would have been registered, and LE would have known that. But NL telling LE that CL removed it from his Jeep and took it to the ranch, then going with LE to find it in a particular closet in "the ranch" where the gun was stored--that seems odd to me.

Why was she so specific? At the very least, why would she not have just said "oh, it must be at the ranch where we are moving our stuff..."? Why specifically tell them CL moved it from the Jeep to the ranch?

She was specific and gave up the gun info because she was CONFIDENT the body was never going to be found, no body, no case, in my opinion anyway.

Try hitting the Remember Me box when logging in. It sounds like you're timing out.

That's not working because I stay logged in with the remember box checked. But thanks for answering

Along with that, the statement (per IM) "Nicole stated she was able to keep her story straight and the detectives did not get any information from her" made me wonder whether or not the whole .22 thing even mattered.
