It would make more sense to me if she were somewhere else like that, and JT was just a red herring. However, I'm so curious why LE isn't looking anywhere other than JT!

Could LE actually be lookining in other places... And just saying they are continuing to search in JTNP ...to throw off another suspect (which hasn't been reported by LE)?

This may be another reason LE is not requesting volunteers...so as to not "show their hand"?

Jon was promoted to corporal on November 7, 2013.

They did or didn't attend the ball in 2013.

Do we know when Jon returned from Japan?

Going into 2014, did Erin spend New Years alone at 29 Palms?

Please....with all due respect...If you are having sex with anyone other than your wife and you are in the military, you are guilty of adultery under the UCMJ. The whole rank thing is misleading. That comes into play much more when handing down a punishment is concerned. But honestly, if you are married and in the military and having an affair with the grocery clerk that has no ties to the military, you could still lose rank and/or your job. For example, if the man she was sleeping with was NOT higher rank than her husband, he would STILL be in a hell of a mess for adultery!

These are babies...19 years old is still a baby. Our brains aren't supposedly fully formed until we are 25....for some much longer than that, if ever. ; )
But seriously, these are two adorable looking kids and this is a horrible situation. We simply don't know what happened here, and I for one am still pulling for this precious young couple. If she made an error in judgement that has cost her life, that makes the crime no less horrific.
I agree the focus should be on speculating on how to find her vs. the salacious horse manure that will always get posted on facebook. While some info may be relevant to motive or finding her, most of it is just mean spirited. Thank goodness that is rarely found on these threads on WS. Our mission is simple; help find them, and support each other in doing so.

Was just on the Locate Erin FB page and I have to say many different people aren't getting much of a say over there. In fact I have NEVER encountered such blatant and capricious mass deletion in twenty years of knowing the internet. Even family members are getting their posts removed. I'm sure it's not what they intended and, it's probably not even true, but it tends to leave the impression that something more is going on in that family than what we can imagine. Maybe if the moderator of that page weren't behaving that way there wouldn't be as much 'negativity' in people's posts. It's so sad to see when someone's emotional reaction makes their own situation worse.

The latest thread on the "Locate Erin" page is strange. You have people who are arguing things like the following: The family should be protected from the truth, that knowing something is happening is the same as the action occurring, that the media should not have First Amendment protections, and that government should be able to operate in total secrecy. I see hints of the same ideas here, but in the "unfiltered" world of Facebook I get the sense more than half of the population has a 5th-grade level of intelligence (max). We need to dismantle our education system and start over.

Regretting airing my dirty laundry. Why would she do that? You'd have to ask her. Trying to trap him into staying in the marriage? I have no idea. She had "issues", as I'm sure all ex-wives do, right? Yes, she DOES get a portion of his retirement every month. They were married 18 years and that's the law, and I have no problem with it. My whole point in sharing was that the average person has no idea what having an affair (or even being accused of having an affair) can do to someone in the military.

Sorry, I didn't mean to put you on the spot. I was just curious because the ex may have been cutting off her nose to spite her face type of thing. Made no sense to me. Besides, it isn't your dirty laundry. But I know what you mean as I've lost sleep over times wondering why'd I posted this or that - lol! True, affairs within military are worse, or harder to keep secret (I guess). If you work for IBM, no one is going to run and tell your boss you're having an affair, right?
We had an officer who was using military funds to take his secretary on Army related business in fun cities while his wife was back home taking care of their kids. He was found out because he skipped out of a scheduled (paid for) set of classes (advanced schooling) to take the gf out during the day. I guess he thought no one would notice he was missing. Wrong! Then, someone wondered who the woman was who he had with him. Busted! There goes his next rank and probably worse for wasting Army money. Most likely he didn't make it to retirement which would be a blow when you have only three years to go. Idiot.

According to Jon's Facebook status, he deployed to Okinawa in Oct, 2012.. and was promoted to Cpl in Nov. 2013 . .

According to the Facebook page for the 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines, 29 Palms. , on Nov. 16, 2013, a " Corwin" with the India Battery, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines was congratulated for being promoted to Cpl. On Oct. 12, 2013, the India Battery, 3rd Battalion 11th Marines returned from deployment to Okinawa, Fuji and Korea.

This is a tragic story. Erin is still a teen-ager, and has already been married for 18 months, suffered a miscarriage, and then became pregnant soon after. That's a lot on someone's shoulders. She should be enjoying her youth unencumbered instead of being tied down. The fact she may have been seeing a married man on the side (sans birth control?) indicates all may not have been right in the marriage (and she was perhaps lonely?). So many people have been hurt and the fact Erin has been missing almost two weeks, does not bode well for a happy resolution.

This just breaks my heart.

The information released during this search has been minimal due to the suspicious nature of Erin’s disappearance. The search has shown no sign of Erin and her disappearance does not appear to be voluntary. When conducting investigations like these, Investigators must keep in mind the potential for this search to turn into a criminal investigation at any time. Therefore, the information released about the search techniques, search areas and interviews will be minimal.
The search will continue as necessary, throughout the weekend using search and rescue volunteers from San Bernardino County, Los Angeles County and Kern County Sheriff’s Departments and Joshua Tree National Park Service Rangers.

A lot of military marriages happen at this young age, Imo. And a lot of girls everywhere marry right out of high school. It is not that unusual, especially in small towns, Imo. Nineteen is old enough o be in the service for a year already...so I guess they are expected to be adults.

But affairs or flings happen in all types of marriages, at any age. Should never be cause for a possible murder, yet we see it all the time, unfortunately. Pregnancy and/or money are usually the motives.

I am also pulling for this sweet couple. I am praying that she took some time to sort things out in her mind and will reappear soon, chagrined and apologetic. As for the possible affair, she is 19. Nineteen. Do any of us want to be judged and remembered for things we did when we were 19 and stressed and have had their lives turned upside down in a matter of 6-9 months? I certainly don't. People have affairs for many reasons, and they often have nothing to do with how much they love their spouse.

Good loving people sometimes make less than ideal decisions in bad situations. I know people who have had affairs in order to avoid a relapse on drugs or to quell feelings of suicidal ideation. Not saying she did have an affair. Not saying if she did these were her reasons. I'm just saying that I've seen a lot of people stumble, good people, people who loved their spouses, people who never thought they were capable of it. I also know a lot of people who wouldn't exist if good people didn't stumble, people who were conceived from affairs or from relationships that started after others ended in affairs.

We like life to be black and white. It's not. It's thousands of shades of grey. It's messy and icky and dirty and yet beautiful at the same time.
