Erin Corwin acquaintance Christopher Lee arrested
Brett Kelman, The Desert Sun 1:59 p.m. PDT July 21, 2014

It appears the confusion is them releasing news of the arrest, weeks after the event. It can be construed that he was arrested again, but he was not.

He is mentioned as a suspect for the explosive device. The explosive device was found while serving a search warrant in an ongoing investigation. Homicide detectives were serving the SW, therefore the homicide detectives signed the warrant.

Tack room or barn wouldn't typically be considered a "residence" with a physical address but maybe there is a 2nd home, mobile or otherwise on the property or CBL was staying there temporarily after he ETS'd? maybe actively working there even (speculation only). Could also be some in-barn quarters for temp workers.

Have seen in some cases in the past where LE hauls in somebody in their sights for a more serious crime to effectively keep them wrapped up with lesser charges while they work to find evidence of such.

Rachael Anderson case comes immediately to mind: get your most likely perp on illegal weapons charge and toss him in jail while working the murder charge because you don't yet have enough to make a murder charge stick.

Not suggesting exact same thing going on here. Just have seen it happen several times.

Just happened with Steven Capobianco.

Respectfully….evidence where either Erin's husband or the other Marine in question ever served in combat?

I read somewhere that CL served in Iraq/Afghanistan, but my post wasn't about them per se, but about the research.

This was talked about earlier in one of the other threads. It was found when they executed a search warrant on the horse ranch. That search warrant has to do with Erin Corwin's disappearance. This is the Erin Corwin thread. So it's related. The police department just released it, so it's up for discussion again.
I'm confused, are you sure you meant to respond to me? I'm posting about an article that reports that CL was arrested July 4 and released July 6. The article was just released as if this is new news. It is not.

ETA: the "we" I was referring to in my initial post included the media along with sleuthers. The arrest 2 weeks ago, and his subsequent release, is not really news unless something happens in EC's case. It isn't.

Since I'm a "newbie" on the WS site I wanna be sure to follow the appropriate protocol....I've been thinking about this for quite sometime.....I saw this story when first looking into this case and I've heard of cases where the perps have resorted to familiar territory to commit/hide their crimes....this story just jumped out at me and I wanted to ask if it would be permitted as a share on WS....here is the link/story

Here's the thing: they "tossed him in jail" for 2 days, released him, and now, over 2 weeks later, nothing is happening. The searches go on, without what seems like a lot of direction, but the LE is telling us nothing, no one has been arrested or re-arrested, and the case appears to be at a standstill. I would have believed they were holding him to look for evidence 2 weeks ago, now I'm not sure.

WOW - I wondered what a "destructive device" is and found the following:

California Penal Code 18710 PC makes it a crime to possess a “destructive device.”
Destructive devices include things like:
• Bombs,
• Grenades,
•Explosive missiles,
•Projectiles containing any kind of explosive or incendiary material, and
•Certain rockets and rocket-propelled projectiles.

Misdemeanor penalty is 1 year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Felony penalty is up to 3 years in state prison and a $10,000 fine.

Illegal fireworks- M1000?, "Cherry Bombs". Unfortunately my city allows "Safe & Sane" Fireworks to be sold for charity, and idiots still bring in illegal ones. One guy in the newpaper blew off parts of his hand!!

Sounds like someone at the ranch had anger issues.

Where is the red car? Who has the red car? Does CL have a friend with a red car? This piece has to fit in some where.

Not holding for a weekend I was referring to. Arresting on other charges that could be a felony that if they can get a conviction on, could lead to him being back in jail for a reasonable amount of time.

Okay, that's it, this is getting us nowhere. I thought, or at least I got talked into thinking by someone else who may not have been thinking, that if this guy was named publicly and officially on this site we could sleuth him and come up with something that no one had ever come across before and we'd solve this thing. Like some secret control panel would come up out of the floorboards with special functions, with the batman theme playing. Silly!

It's not going to happen. We need to go back to the drawing board, and start finding other people who saw her that day somehow. Use our brains and think about where he was most likely to take her. the different routes he'd use, and maybe someone close to the area can drive up with a few flyers for strategic locations with a number that people can call to report if they saw a red car with two occupants on that day. or a run down dirty guy over the next couple of days, etc. ?

Elvis said it best. A little less conversation, a little more action. what about asking the people who live in the area what a couple of people would do if they had a day to waste in the desert. Maybe go down to palm springs? who knows. maybe it happened in another location while they were doing what one of them thought was a romantic activity? hrm?

I'm not wishing to challenge WS rules, but I'm confused. In the case of Heather Elvis, a couple were arrested for indecent exposure, and they were sleuthed thoroughly. We're directed to read the rules, asked not to speak up or point out the rules to newbies ourselves but, frankly even for this oldie, I can't keep track of the rules from one case to the next.
Not meaning to be confrontational but the contradictions of rules between cases is really getting to me (because I am a person who likes to obey rules but hate getting my hand slapped when rules aren't made clear or applied fairly).
What can be done about this to make posting here more pleasant?

In fairness, I realize the affair HE was having with SM was confirmed and known to be a fact (versus rumor).
But still neither of them (SM or TM) had been charged with anything Heather related until long after they'd been sleuthed thoroughly on WS.

Officer Jodi Miller, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's department, would not say if Lee's arrest was related to the search for Corwin. However, when asked for an update on the search for the missing woman, Miller's first response was to mention the arrest of Lee. According to the release, Lee was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail. He was released on July 6 after posting bail.

When pressed, Miller said Lee was arrested as a result of a search warrant in "an ongoing investigation." She repeatedly refused to say if that was the investigation of Corwin's disappearance.

"It was a search warrant in connection with an ongoing investigation, however we have not named a specific person of interest or a specific suspect," Miller said. "It's an ongoing investigation, and with that investigation, there are a number of people who have been interviewed."

I think even their PAO is confused! :gaah:

Do you know how large the statue of the donkey was? Was it standing on the ground or situated up higher on something?
When I read the broken donkey story earlier while looking at the website, the thought crossed my mind that maybe a donkey kicked the donkey!
