Sorry to be the voice of dissent, but I could not disagree more. The affair was already public knowledge at the time of it's release. And given the manner in which it was conducted (the specifics of which shall not be mentioned here), it's hard to imagine a less toned down reaction from the public in both quantity and quality.

Regardless, the public needed to know the warrant pc information because

1. Any Chris Lee sightings from that weekend will help the investigation.
2. More people than just the Sheriffs office are involved in the investigation.
3. Given both the data in the warrant and the actions with regard to search locations, it's difficult to imagine a more incompetent Law Enforcement exercise than this abominable search effort. (The public needs to know how bad the case is going)

Why Joshua Tree National Park? Why search in the last place she could ever be?

-She's not going there. She lied to her husband about her itinerary because she's spending the day with her mistress.
-They're not going there, they're going two hours away to a place where hunting is allowed.
-He's not going there, why would a selfish 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 spend all day in the sweltering heat and boiling sun when he can just as easily go to a national forest where there's shade, and where the thing you want to hunt will actually come out of hiding?
-A murderer isn't going there, there's thousands of people with ~twice as many watchful eyes. And when she's presumed lost, guess where all the cops are going to show up looking for her? The last place she said she was going.... Duh!

What in the world makes them think they'll find her there still? STILL??

Also, search warrants are made public all the time, sometimes people's behavior is brought to light because of this. Don't blame the public's right to know, because most of the time a warrant is due to that behavior. Such actions often bring shame and sadness to family, spouses and friends. This is why everyone should be cautious of their actions, they do have an impact on other people.

These thoughts are mine and mine alone.

Just as Erin may not have been telling JC where she was really going that day, CL may not have told Erin where he was really taking her that day, either. The "two hours away" where "hunting is allowed" may be just as fictitious as her spending the day looking for places in JTNP to hike/photograph/picnic/whatever. And again, in vast open areas of nothingness, many people hunt in areas where hunting isn't allowed.

We don't know what LE knows. We know such a small portion of what they know. We don't know where CL's phone pinged, what was found on his phone or her phone, we don't know what the other search warrants were for or what was contained in those probable cause statements. We don't even know how many people are searching or where they are searching. We wouldn't have a clue if LE had hundreds of people searching in Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear or Idyllwild. How could we when they have released so little information? IMO, it isn't because they are incompetent morons.

MOO but I think it is a bit premature to slam LE on how they are handling Erin's disappearance.

I think this kind of thing happens all the time. With both men AND women.

Oh I'm not denying affairs happen. I'm saying that a cheating spouse can't have it both ways. It's not a "boyfriend," it's a "cheating affair partner" IMO.

White Rock Horse Rescue ... where Erin worked. Why was it searched and items taken, according to the affidavit? What does it have to do with CL and NL? I know this has been answered before, but I missed it ............
and what, pray tell, is a potato gun? Why does one get arrested for possessing one?

*thoroughly confused*

It's basically a (small) cannon that shoots a potato. I didn't know they were illegal in CA until I read this case, although it makes sense to me. They can do some serious damage.

The affidavit.
Speechless.

Am I the only one who thinks the ranch owner is complicit in this scheme? Why is HL so comfortable chatting so openly about murder with her? Was there no loyalty to her employee, Erin? No grief over her disappearance and alleged murder by the hands of these two? And she is letting them stay there?

I just .................................. have no words.

And spent shell casings in the jeep that a gun was never found for ....................

Does anybody else remember reading about some pregnancy tracker thing? I thought I read that JC had found it but not sure if it was MSM reporting it or if it was a FB rumor. No wonder the mods don't allows FB rumors ~ definitely muddies the water.

Trying to catch up, so this may have already been answered.
Yes, I remember the period tracker rumor. If it was ever reported by the media, I wasn't able to find it. That rumor was on FB and a few other sites....same wording, same source.

I agree. In the Statement of Probable Cause, they simply say the phone was shut off "sometime" after she left. But wouldn't the phone provider be able to tell exactly when? If so, LE has this information of course.

The quote from the Probable Cause: "Sometime after Erin left with Lee her phone was deactivated (turned off)."

When I saw your original post I had to laugh because of course you can't have both...DUH! lol But these cases (and many of the people involved) get so far away from what we consider normal or healthy, that before you know it we are saying things like she had a boyfriend AND husband. And we don't stop and think of how incredibly stupid it actually sounds!! It's like we don't even see the little ways our thinking and vocabulary become skewed until it's pointed out to us.

Totally O/T, but since I am fairly new here but very interested, I am just starting to look around at the forum. Is there some sort of "introduce yourself" thread anywhere?

What a nice idea RSC; I'm not aware of one.
But please, hello, introduce yourself! : )

Always love your posts!
I'd say that LE knows that's exactly where she is, based on lot's of good evidence. There is no way they would invest all that $ for a "might be" search.
And remember, most Perps are dumber than a box of rocks. Jus sayin....

The quote from the Probable Cause: "Sometime after Erin left with Lee her phone was deactivated (turned off)."

Certainly sounds as though LE has evidence that she was with CL.

That statement led me to believe so....whether it was texts from her friend in TN or video surveillance or an eyewitness account. Something allowed them to make it.

"Deputy Mackewen learned from another neighbor that Erin and Lee were having an affair. JT, Erin's friend in Tennessee, confirmed Erin and Lee were romantically involved and Erin may be pregnant with Lee’s child. Erin told JT that Lee was worried if his wife discovered Erin was pregnant, Lee’s wife would divorce him and keep him from his child."

BBM but why would CL worry about his wife's reaction to EC being pregnant, since EC is married to JC, the proud papa to be? it seems as tho, through the text msgs between EC and her friend JT in TN, that EC was definatley planning on letting CL know that the baby is his hoping for a life together?? i dont get it, why not just tell everyone it's her husbands baby? unless her husband and her were keeping separate bedrooms? still , then only her and JC would know it wasn't JC baby. that would be cruel of her to have both guys thinking they are the father.[/QUOTE]

BBM. IMO, because wives usually don't react well to finding that out. In many cases at WS, this exact scenario was motive for murder.

And wouldn't it be just as cruel to let JC think the baby was his, when it may not have been?

It takes a special kind of wife who will not only stay with the man, but also help him get rid of the problem and then clean up his mess. Can you say psycho? JMO

Since CL was being discharged, could it be that she believed that he would divorce his wife and be with her? From what was relayed about the text messages in the Probable Cause Statement, it didn't sound like EC was going to tell CL about the baby then - it sounded like he already knew. So, at some point between when she found out, June 15th-ish, and when she went missing, she informed CL about the possibility that he was the father. That's what I get out of those text messages.

According to her family, it was not confirmed how far along she was. Maybe she was making a guess based on information that she knew about what happened in her life prior to finding out. MOO

Was his statement about "hunting" the next day a taunt? Meaning he and his wife were going hunting?

I think he was just saying hunting in order to have a block of hours at his disposal.

Lot's of MOO's going on around here, it gets so people forget about the MMO (Means, Motive, and Opportunity).

Obviously CL could have lied to Erin about where he was taking her that day. But the lack of opportunity precluded him from doing so. Look at the evidence to see his mode of operations. He didn't kill her at the rendezvous point, or in the car, or in the jeep later on, or at the house, or the ranch. In his mind he wasn't comfortable with those locations for untold reasons, so he had to do it at their destination. Why would she let him drive her some place other than where she thought they were going? No, this guy had to set up the opportunity to do this to her, which means moving her to a predetermined location without her becoming "wise" to his intentions. Ergo she died where she thought they were going hunting that day, or at a secluded spot along the way. Either way, not in JTNP.

I think that Erin was a volunteer - not an employee. Lots of info in the last 2 threads. Not to be "Cranky"
but who is HL?
