<snipped for space>
Question: How many of you see mannequins along roadsides or out when you are hiking or camping? Just asking cuz every case I see on TV (Investigation Discovery, etc.) the person who finds the body always says they thought it was a mannequin.

I was on an 8 hour road trip, then another 4 hour road trip and not once did I see a mannequin on the side of the road or in a ditch or anyplace.

Good point. And that would be "never."

Can you imagine if you HAD seen a mannequin by the side of the road? I know your mind would've been racing thinking "ok who went missing in this area? Must get on WS!"

Husband and I love road trips and once took a roughly 2000 mile 10 day road trip all over the state including some very remote areas. He likes to get out on the side of the road and "see what there is to see" and sometimes hikes a ways off the road (I can't due to muscle issues). He finds all kinds of bizarre things, but never a mannequin. We also go boating and have found the strangest stuff in the river and on the levees next to it, but again never a mannequin. I think the only time I've seen them outside of stores is in a haunted house.

Unless he was told by LE that she is almost certainly dead, and her lover almost certainly did it. I'm honestly not sure what a 20 year old would say in that case. If something like that happened to me, I would be devastated, and I'm not sure I would care what strangers thought of me. I probably wouldn't talk to the media either.

I heard someone say these things before, probably you, so I'll just let you know why this is coming up again. Someone found this article : http://www.sbsun.com/general-news/2...marines-pregnant-wife-taking-new-twists-turns in which an army spokesperson advised the media that Jon was told he was fully able to talk to the media but that he declined to do so. I am just wondering why anyone in this position wouldn't plead with the media on a daily basis to get the word out about your wife whose gone missing, let alone not talk about it at all ..

From what I have heard from good friends in the military (Army for what it's worth, but I imagine all branches are similar) even so much as a hint that they not give an interview would be enough to keep them from doing so, if they valued their future careers no matter what the outcome. It wouldn't even have to be an order IMO. I've asked one of my husband's friends in the Army about this case in general terms - not specific names or anything. I just told him I was curious how the military might respond and he immediately got kind of quiet - all he'd say was "I'm sure the guy would do what he's trained to do... so how's the weather out there?"

I have a friend who is retired Navy with 22 years. I talked to him about this case and asked plenty of questions about honorable/dishonorable discharge, if the status would change with a criminal conviction, etc. I asked him why NCIS would not be taking the lead on this and he said that probably the Marines would want to distance themselves from the bad publicity of the case so they would just let SBCSO take over, use their funds, etc., since it is more of a civil issue rather than a military one.

I also asked him about the husband being ordered to not talk to the media, and that some people said they wouldn't care what the Marines said, they would defy the order and talk to the media anyway, that their loved one is way more important then any military career, etc and he just laughed and said it shows that some people really don't understand the military, the discipline, the ranks, the way the whole thing works. FWIW

I just have to crack up how so many of these recreated crimes on TV true crime shows have someone say with the discovery of the body that they first thought it was a mannequin, like we all see mannequins every day of the week on our daily business to where that's the first thing you'd think of if you saw a dead body.

I have to say growing up military, my brother and I had to mind our p's and q's. You see, what some don't understand about the military (unless it has changed),
is that if my brother or I did Anything wrong within the law, MY FATHER, would get a DEMERIT for it.That would go AGAINST my father's military record, and for a career soldier, that definitely is not good. My brother and I did not blemish my father's 30 year career.
Yes, the military is definitely disciplined, and rightly so.
IMOO.

Here we go. LE has been doing such a poor job on this case, it was only a matter of time, now all the headcases, conspiracy theorists and nutjobs are coming out of the wood work:
<snipped by me>

This idiot doesn't even know how to spell cache. Not to mention that everyone knows CL lied when he said he 'only kissed Erin but there was no affair'. Plus why would she forget the evidence she was going to show Chris in the car, especially when she went to the passenger side that morning to get something. If this stuff was there wouldn't she have taken the evidence with her? Give me a break!!

good idea using <snipped by me> though. I should have thought of that for those damned riddles early on.

(sorry, just commentary on what some have already seen that's it, and trust me it's not all that important)

I have to say, I have a problem with JC claiming that he was unable to speak about his wife's disappearance if the below statement by the Public Affairs officer is correct. I do not believe that this is just a case of misinterpretation or miscommunication. I assume that the Public Affairs officer would have asked JC's command if he/she told him not to speak before making a public statement to the fact. I also find it interesting that the issue of him speaking with the media was even addressed by the Public Affairs officer at all....unless they wanted the public to know that not only was he not told that he couldn't speak to the media but he was informed that he absolutely had a right to speak to them.

“What I can tell you at this time is that on June 30th, Cpl. Corwin’s command informed him of his right to speak with the media and placed him in a duty status that would give him time off for the next 30 days,” Marine Lt. Col. Stewart Upton said via email. “Media outlets requested to interview Cpl. Corwin via the Public Affairs officer at Marine Corps Base Twenty-Nine Palms, and Cpl. Corwin declined those requests.”

Yup, my USN(ret.) friend told me he was stationed in Puerto Rico and his wife was with them and their two little girls. She hated it there so she went back stateside. She wanted him back in the states so behind his back, she went to his CO and claimed mental breakdown hardship and she wanted back. He had been up for a promotion. They sent him back stateside and as discipline for it, it took him another 7 years before he got that promotion. She almost ruined his career. They don't mess around. Anything a family member does, directly affects the career of the military member.

Interesting posts downstairs in scanner thread :)

So it's the second day of the big push search for Erin. I wish them luck and hope they find her.

I don't see anything of interest. Can you be more explicit (in the scanner thread, of course), so we'll know what it is you found that is interesting?

thanx

What I assume was a SAR helicopter just flew by my house a few minutes ago. (White with red stripe). Headed west.

BBM: With all due respect, how, exactly, is LE doing "such a poor job on this case"? Just because the public hasn't been advised of every step they've taken and they haven't provided updates does not equate to a "poor job". Because I live in San Bernardino County I very much resent that comment as they have a very fine reputation and are quite a large department. If, in the end, it comes out that they've dropped the ball somewhere along the way, I'll be the first to apologize, however, I will reserve judgment until there is proof they've done a poor job on this case.

And that, or another, helicopter went back by in the opposite direction (headed southish eastish). They appear, from my vantage point, to be headed into the Park rather than the outskirts. Of course, they could change course once out of my view.

Hmmm, maybe they are on to something or found something if it's looking like police activity is going on in JTNP area. Of course, we know there is a search going on today, but some of this sounds like they are concentrating in a specific area.

Excuse me for asking questions that probably were covered before. A witness saw a woman get out of Erin Corwins car (the blue corolla) and get into a red car and drive away with this person. The witness can't positively id the woman?
Then could it be someone else driving Erins corolla? Have the police said if they checked all the rental businesses to see who rented a red car around that time? Could this witness id the make or model of the red car?
Perhaps the affair was a motive for murder for hire by CL and NL. Erin might have been going to meet CL and was instead met by her killer.

Can someone share the link to the scanner thread please?

Or shuttling people or supplies? Getting fuel? I HOPE it's for a better reason. I never bothered with looking at the helicopters in the area before because usually they are military. However now whenever I hear one I run outside to see (1) what color it is and (2) where it's going.
