CBS News 8 has learned has learned Lee may have had an incriminating internet search history on his computer, which is what may have led investigators to zero in on the hundreds of mine shafts around Joshua Tree National Park.

I think this article was updated - I don't remember it talking about the possible incriminating web search earlier.
<Respectfully Snipped>!

May...may..... jeez, what reporting of facts, NOT IMHO. Sounds just as knowledgeable as a :websleuther: on the thread :moo: :moo: to me :floorlaugh:

While I understand he probably duped her and led her into thinking that, how about her husband? Was he not lied to and treated with disrespect? The door swings both ways when someone is unfaithful. With that being said, I am sorry this all came down to this and her murderer deserves much punishment. But, I hope people think again before being unfaithful.

Yes people should think but a lot of people dont and they shouldnt be murdered for it. This trial should not be about who cheated on who. It should be about who was murdered and by whom. Just keeping t real!

I don't want to join the sexual morality police who post on news sites and as far as an affair goes I am no one to judge anyone ever. My post is just what I think about who knew what and it's just my opinion.
I don't think JC and NL realised how far the affair had went. This is just my take on it but I think EC and CL got close and rumors were going about so they publicly backed off. If both partners knew and forgave and continued to live next door to each other it strikes me as a bit strange. I think JC only found out the extent after Erin went missing and that NL found out because CL needed help to cover. I stress this is no judgment and only my opinion.

Sorry for the double post. I edited it and guess it got posted twice.

CL has destroyed many lives. This is all due to his selfishness. Police say NL is a person of interest so she knew more than we imagine. And the coroner said Erin's death is a homicide so there is no way ever for the defense to say she fell in that mine. If the coroner stated it was a homicide then LE already has definite proof that he shot her or a statement that he pushed her. And he killed her unborn baby too. At this point it doesn't matter whose baby it was. He must have believed it was his. So he murdered two people. I really hope NL did not help him. But she may be as bad as he is. We have to wait and see. So sad for Erin's family.

I wonder if IM's nutty statements will even have any bearing on this case. She said certain things to an officer, then made it sound like she was totally misunderstood. I hope she just goes away and that they have enough evidence without her nonsense. I think she's a loose cannon.
On the red car, I hope that info comes out and it's discussed if it was relevant to this case.

Wonder if they thought clearing their browser history actually deleted all traces or if they weren't even smart enough to do that. Thankfully, these two being so clueless has brought this to an end so much faster than it could have taken.

Want to bet they didn't even defrag the hard drive? "we deleted the browsing history and any relevant files, we really got one over on them!"

Just jumping in with MOO. Because CL premeditated this crime, one must know he did so because Erin was pregnant. So he SHOULD be charged with TWO counts of first degree murder. Scott Peterson should be one of his cell mates in the future.

well, in theory he premeditated it, but that has not been proven yet. I suspect they will charge him with two counts, premeditated, as they usually always charge with the highest possible crime, then back out from there if necessary.

When you are discharged or released from active duty, you are still in reserve status. In effect, you can be recalled in an emergency. So yes, he will receive a dishonorable discharge, which is the very least of his worries. And btw, only retired military have benefits anymore and not much at that. He likely could have gotten a VA loan to buy a home but no more. And Nicole will get zip...unless maybe arrested herself.

well, that's not totally correct. there are still many benefits for discharged vets. He would have alot more than a home loan available to him.

Also, for them to dishonorably discharge him, they will need to recall him back to active duty, then if convicted, they will dishonorably discharge him. It won't be automatic

Ordinarily I'd say no, but I wouldn't put it past this department. Remember these are the guys who sent out a press release stating "there are no suspects or 'persons of interest' identified." two weeks after their prime suspect was so well "identified" they managed to get search warrants on three properties and four vehicles he had access to. 'Can you just imagine the questions and the jurors eyes upon hearing that they were lying on purpose to protect the investigation?'

I don't understand how you are STILL criticizing LE for the way they handled this investigation  Of course they are NOT going to say CL was a person of interest. With him being in Alaska, they certainly didn't want to take the chance of scaring CL into possibly fleeing the country. I wouldn't call that "lying on purpose to protect the investigation." I think SBCSO knew very early on that EC was deceased and that CL murdered her. I'm sure that's one of the reasons Alaska News stations were told to keep quiet too. LE didn't want to compromise this investigation anymore than it had already been. It seems to me that SBCSO has been right on top of everything from the very beginning. But you still seem to disapprove of the way they handled it?? I don't understand

He premeditated it. Cold blooded murder. He took her out there for one reason only. To silence her!

agree, but they will need to prove that beyond reasonable doubt. I'm super interested to see the evidence.

Not just a phone company... I found out that Google has been tracking where I've been all year and I could look it all up on a map. Now I'm going to have to go for drives around the area so i can draw pictures for google. ;-)

If you have location turned off, google doesn't track you. I only turn location on if I'm using the GPS on my phone which is only a couple times a year.

Now they need to zoom in on his wife. I think she has something to do with the red car that was talked about so much back in the beginning.

Witnesses saw Erin talking to some guy in a red car. Was his wife in the back seat out of view ? Did the witnesses mistake Erin for Nicole that day?

I have no doubt she is knee deep in this thing, just by the statements she made to the lady at the horse ranch about missing evidence and her husband being stupid.

I don't think the arrest's are quite over yet.

For the low-down on the scene in Twentynine Palms, and also for info on how the civilian and military justice systems work in a case such as this (crime happened off base), read Twentynine Palms: A True Story of Murder, Marines, and the Mojave, an LA Times "best book of the year," praised by Hunter Thompson, audio edition just out on audible...

Maybe CL's six-years in the services will have taught him to take responsibility for his actions? (Well-at least after the fact.) I don't know much about the military, but I thought maybe it was a part of a code.

Is California a state where a spouse cannot testify against their spouse or a state where they can't be forced to testify against their spouse?

It might be considered for financial gain, if they can establish part of his motive was to avoid paying child support.

Maybe they can use kidnapping in some way as murder in commission of a felony. It seems to me that the D.A. will be able to get very creative with the charges considering how it all took place. I very much think it was premeditated and CL deserves the death penalty, however, I think he'll end up getting life without parole. Something tells me Erin's family will not go for the death penalty and would allow a deal to be made for life without parole. I have a hunch they are against the death penalty and know that the good Lord will get the murderer(s) in the end. JMO
