Found Deceased CA - Erin Elizabeth Henry, 22, Arcata, 30 Nov 2017

Oh my god no, this is not what I was expecting at all. Going by the message she did to her friend, I think... she did it herself. :'( MOO. So SO so so sad. She had such a bright future, she seemed like an incredible woman

I think I read the same message that you are talking about. What I am confused by is how her scooter was just found today by Caltrans. There were multiple reports of sightings of her in that area. I would have thought they would have been up and down that road days ago.

Her family just posted this morning that the area that she was found had already been searched.

I think I am im denial because I was hoping for a different ending.

I was praying that this case would have better outcome. RIP Erin.

I know this is the time to mourn Erin's death and to reflect on her life but I have concerns about her death:
I am confused as to why she would be traveling on HWY 101 on a knee scooter. I am assuming that this was a motorized scooter and she was traveling on the shoulder of the road and maybe she was hit by a car. Why was she traveling towards West Haven did she have friends who lived there. I am hoping witnesses come forward who saw Erin traveling on HWY 101. Something doesn't add up here.

The ones I have seen are not motorized. If hers was similar, it's even more perplexing that she walked about 15 miles on the side of the road.

I believe her scooter was a push scooter and not motorized based on the picture used in the missing person poster. I read that she was last heard around midnight on the 25th and some people reported seeing a woman on a scooter around 9am on the 26th. I imagine it is possible that she could have walked/scooted that distance but it seems like it would really uncomfortable not to mention she would be doing it in the pitch black of night.

This is such a heartbreaking ending. If there was no foul play then I hope that she at least left a note to give her family some closure.

If this was a push scooter I find it hard to believe she pushed that far with one leg.

This is heartbreaking news. I was bracing for it, but it still hits hard. :( I guess the sighting near Clam Beach was accurate, as she was found not far from there. But LE is still trying to figure out how she got there. The autopsy will be on Monday. Here is a more detailed story from the Times Standard.

There were no signs of foul play and the investigation so far suggests that Henry had either fallen or jumped from Elephant Rock, according to Chapman. The preliminary results of the investigation suggest Henry’s death occurred shortly after the time of her disappearance, Chapman said.

..........

Chapman said the preliminary results of the investigation indicate that Henry was alone at the time of her death. Chapman said there is also no indication that Henry was struck by a vehicle. Henry’s body was found just far enough from the highway that she could not have been seen by a passing driver or person walking on the highway.

The story is so sad. Maybe she left everything because she planed to take her life and wasn't going to need anything. I know it seems nearly impossible that she got to Elephant Rock herself but if she hitch hiked or asked someone to drop her off there I don't think the driver would be to blame. If there was a driver and the driver found out what happened then I am sure they feel uncomfortable about how things ended.

Oh no. My deepest condolences to all who loved her. How sad. Why???? But do I need to ask...the world is going crazy...it is hard not to lose faith...

How did she climb a huge rock with a broken ankle?

How did she climb a huge rock with a broken ankle?

I haven’t found any info on Elephant Rock yet, so it’s hard to know how big it was. It may have been easy to access on one side but had a drop-off on the other. I believe her mother said early on that she was going to be able to stop using the scooter very soon, so I assume her ankle was close to healed and less painful, if she did climb a rock.

Erin leaving everything behind is why I was so worried. Usually that signals either suicide or abduction. If it was suicide, the details rarely make sense, at least in the cases I’ve followed.

If it was suicide, I’m heartbroken that she saw no other option to deal with her pain. But so often, depression makes victims think that their pain/situation will never end and everyone would be better off without them. Tragic.

So sorry to hear this....such a lovely young woman who cared about our environment. Heartbreaking.

I feel very sad for her parents and loved ones. May Erin be at peace now, and that her loved ones find peace eventually.

Anna just died in January 2016... Why is this happening?

I remember you in high school being so compassionate and enthusiastic. I'm so sorry for all your pain. You were a good person, Erin.

Erin was seen alone in the area by several people.

During the investigation into Henry’s disappearance, officers learned that she’d been having suicidal thoughts. “Evidence uncovered in the investigation early on pointed to this being the likely outcome,” Chapman said.

Photo of Elephant Rock and video of the area at link. Very close to 101.

Words can’t convey how sorry I am about the loss of this beautiful girl. This is devastating for her family...and to come on top of Anna’s death is just too much. I hope the outpouring of love and support from the community of Arcata eases their pain just a little for a moment. My condolences to all who loved Anna and to those who had a connection to her and joined Websleuths in order to contribute to this thread (5 if I counted correctly). Thank you for being here. I hope you will stay, look around and find other threads to support. Hugs to all. :heartbeat:

Suicide is a hard subject. I’ve participated in at least 6 threads here that ended in suicide. All of them were amazing people. It’s never easy to accept when someone ends their own life. Each person has a story and a reason and in some cases we will never know why. But on each thread it’s been clear that the suicide wasn’t meant to hurt others, but to end seemingly unending pain. WS members who are suicide survivors have written eloquently of their thought process and experience, and from them I have learned compassion for those who make this choice. It’s too late to hug Erin and reassure her that living is better than dying, but maybe there are ones among our circle of friends who are struggling. We can bring meaning to Erin’s death by helping them. Even a hug can make a difference.

Such sad news about Erin. We don't know for sure it is suicide, even though it looks like it. I'd be curious as to what the three witnesses said.

How she got that far on a knee scooter is beyond me.

I've had a suicide in my family and it's heartbreaking for everyone. All wondering if they could have said or done one thing that would have prevented it. That lives with you the rest of your life.

I dunno, maybe her step-sister's death affected her so profoundly she couldn't get past it. Now the family faces two deaths.

Gosh, I'm so sorry Erin. You seem like a lovely girl with so much going for you. RIP.
