I wondered about a particular case in Stockton so read your link. The case I was thinking of (a Jane Doe) isn't one of the cases, but here is some information from the article:

5 men have been murdered while walking alone.
Physical evidence links the cases.
LE "believes" they are connected.
Investigators have ruled out gang violence, robbery and hate crimes.
The first murder was in July. The most recent in September 2022.

The murders have occured in the north part of Stockton near San Joaquin Delta College.

IMHO Many times men don't see themselves as prey. Women may have a hard time accepting it but reluctantly understand it. Please correct me if I am wrong but haven't there been other WS posts about different areas with missing men? I am an East coaster and have limited knowledge of CA and Stockton. LE appears to have been able to draw some type of conclusion in order to "connect" the crimes. I hope there is more info on this.

These men were all shot. Assuming the evidence they are related is from the bullets or casings

Just IMO:
-maybe the caliber of gun used isn't common for that area's gangs
-they do have a still of the possible person, maybe no gang symbols (clothing, etc) or colors
- area of the shootings may be less areas where the gangs hang out
- maybe the fact that there is such a difference in ages, races, and times of killings

There is still a possibility IMO maybe he needs so many to "get in", but I am also guessing we don't get a lot of info onto how they came to this

The first killing is a homeless man in a park. The second appears to be someone in a parking lot at a gym or Burger King. There is a homeless encampment nearby.

they probably are basing it off of typical known patterns of gang violence that they've dealt with in the area in the past. but, i do agree with you because until you have the person in custody i don't know if you could truly be 100% sure to rule out the motive?

Two more shootings that happened in April 2021 have been linked to this case, the first one in Oakland, the second one a woman in Stockton who survived.

April 16, 2021 shooting of a 46-year-old black woman at Park Street and Union Street in Stockton. The woman survived her injuries. Time of occurrence was 3:20 am.
April 10, 2021 shooting death of a 40-year-old Hispanic man in Oakland, California. Time of occurrence was 4:18 am.

Stockton serial killings: California 'person of interest' spotted near multiple murder scenes, police say

California officials are offering a reward of up to $95,000 for information leading to the capture of the suspect behind five Stockton murders since July, police say.

''In a statement released to the public on Friday, McFadden said police had opened a tip line dedicated to the investigation, and asked anyone with information related to any of the shootings to call 209-937-8167 or email [email protected]. McFadden added that anyone with possibly related video footage can submit the file here, or by scanning a QR code provided.

"If anyone, has information regarding these investigations, call us immediately," he wrote. "Please remember our victims have grieving family members who need resolution. If you know something, say something."

McFadden also urged the public to remain vigilant as the manhunt continues.

"Please avoid isolated areas and travel in well-lit areas. Remember, there is safety in numbers so if you can, travel with a friend," he stressed. "If you see suspicious activity, call 209-937-8377 or 911 if it’s an emergency."

The April 16 incident is the only woman, only survivor. Also downtown, in an industrial area. Different to the other shootings which were more to the north. Looks like some empty lots and some car repair type body shops from google maps.

The incident on Hammer, the end of the block is a Burger King and gym, but further up is a Firestone and a bunch of auto body shops.
Both areas with would have homeless camps nearby.

''Police have identified two more victims of the possible serial killer stalking Stockton, California — and it may have shaken everything they thought they knew about the murderer's modus operandi.

Expert criminologists have told Newsweek that the police will have to tread carefully as they try to uncover the pattern of deaths and seek to draw links between them.''

Stockton Police Department investigators have reviewed many hours of video surveillance. They believe they located a "person of interest" in this investigation and have asked people to try to identify the grainy CCTV image.STOCKTON POLICE DEPARTMENT

''Monckton-Smith, who focuses on interpersonal violence and homicide prevention, is not involved in this particular case, but using her expert knowledge in this area, she is able to outline the likely profile of the killer.
She said the person is likely to "[have] good local knowledge, able to be out at night without attracting comment, [and has a] possible history of domestic abuse or control in relationships."


''Police have declined to reveal various details about the case while they investigate, and Monckton-Smith pointed out what remains unclear: "How close was the killer to the victim when they were shot? Were they all shot in the same part of the body? How many shots were fired? Is this person a good shot?"
