A judge has a great deal of power. If the judge doesn't hear evidence strong enough to warrant a murder charge, he/she can reduce the bond, release Jennifer and Lewis, and tell the DA he/she wants more evidence. Maybe LE are not going to speak for the judge by stating with certainty there is enough evidence for a murder charge...they will let the judge determine that. just my opinion. My bet is that the evidence will warrant keeping Jennifer and Lewis behind bars. mho

OK, folks - if you want me to open the other thread for the discussion of the search for Hasanni, etc., let me know - how about you "thank" this post, reply to it, or shoot me a message somehow?

Otherwise, this thread can just continue as general case discussion, even though the title doesn't work.

Please answer in some way shape or form.

Hi there WhyaDuck...always love it when you are the one to begin a new thread and thanks for offering. Guess I'm not sure how the arrest of Lewis and Jennifer can be separated from the search for the little guy. A murder charge seems to change the way the search goes. I'm a little confused.

I wasn't offering to open a new one, just to unlock Thread #4. If people don't want it, that's no skin off my nose, I just wanted to know one way or the other.

Sorry WhyaDuck I misread your comment. If I remember correctly the last topic being discussed on thread 4 had to do with searching through the courts to find out more about Lewis...I could be wrong. I was told that threads are kept separate because when the court date arrives, the info is separated and available for us. I haven't been on here long enough to see a court in action - I pass on this. lol Have a good night and whatever you do is fine with me. jho

Whya I'm going to leave that one up to you and others more experienced than myself here. I'm happy either way. I have trouble sometimes figuring out which thread to put what in, you know? I've kinda got a one track mind. But, as far as following protocol and my understanding of it, we do seem to be throwing a lot into this thread now that wouldn't be classified as 'arrest chatter.' If you want to open it I'll be perfectly content using both as needed.

I might not be getting what either of us is saying...

What I meant was did we want to keep the discussion of the search for Hasanni separated in the old thread (which I locked in the mad rush yesterday) - I would simply unlock it.

I don't really care one way or another. I just rushed to lock it yesterday because I had to shut down the comp and didn't want the conversation splitting. I just thought to offer to re-open it if that's what people would like.

I agree with Shutterfly do what you think is best...though without Hasanni having a sub-forum I would get confused where to go to post with you all...if that makes any sense.

IMO we are still all focused on this thread, in the search for Hasanni, & answers to who what & why's behind LR & JC. I would just continue here & open the other one if & when Hasanni gets his own sub-forum.

NOPE. Not gonna accept that, SF. You've been here longer than me!

I think I'm going to go with the old tried and true method of leaving things as they are until told otherwise. You can't get in trouble for that, eh?

(Also, I agree with the bold, above - that was why I made the suggestion.)

I don't think Hasanni will get his own subforum, especially if his remains are found and these arrests go through. I didn't get any reply on the subforum, which I take to mean "no, now bugger off."

Okay mouth...open it. :blowkiss: Mom would say arrest thread is for arrest discussion and that everything else would be general discussion thread. OR I think we're supposed to change the name of this thread to be all inclusive. Then we'd wind up back where we started...general discussion. It's vicious cycle and you're going to make me hurt myself. Open the dang thread.

ETA: Here's a thought. If you open the #4 and we also now have a links thread and a timeline thread...and now an arrest thread, methinks Hasanni already has a sub-forum, sorta, right?

haha - good - some executive decision making. finally!

Fifth & all I think the confusion with the article about LR & JC getting released happened because of the civil lawyer's comment he made to the press. :waitasec:

He quoted this in another article.....Prosecutors must decide by Tuesday afternoon whether to charge the couple or release them pending further investigation.

Oakland attorney John Burris, who has been advising Ross and Campbell in recent weeks, said Saturday it was unlikely he would formally represent them; he mainly does civil-rights cases, not criminal defense, and he's not sure who'll end up taking the case. Still, he said, he tried to meet with them Saturday morning but was unsuccessful because they were in transit, perhaps for additional police interviews.

"I just want to let them know what's ahead for them... what the process looks like in front of them. No more than that," he said.

Burris said it appears investigators' probable cause for arresting Ross and Campbell was because Hasanni was never in the vicinity of the Rockridge shoe store where his foster parents claimed they last saw him Aug. 10; police say the boy actually was last seen Aug. 6 with his foster parents near a Walmart store in Fremont.

"It means to me that this is more of an effort, seemingly, to build a circumstantial-evidence-type case and eventually get one or more of them to turn state's evidence if they have any evidence, and I don't know that they do," Burris said. "I'm not surprised at that strategy."

To me it sounds like Burris is giving the media legal advice that just may be not the whole truth.....sorta like half truths....I just don't see how LR could have no bail & murder as his charge.....JC having $15,000 bail with an accessory charge.

IMO Burris is trying to get the public to have doubt that they are involved with Hasanni's disappearence or murder! I hope I'm making sense at what I'm trying to say...I had it all thought out earlier when I was reading the posts! :banghead:

It still is confusing the way it is reported in the media. I'll take the word from the detective who gave the news brief that LE has the persons responsible for the murder of Hasanni. Along with him saying that this is no longer a missing case, but a homicide case.

Guess & hope we'll find out more later today from LE according to the article from KTVU.:crossfingers:

OK, I have unlocked the general discussion thread to give it a try, though I would really like to hear the opinions of the long-timers to see if this is the best way to go; it just seems to me that some things are not part of the arrest discussion, and would thus defeat the purpose of having an arrest thread (which is to have arrest info/discussion easily accessible). You dig?

Leave discussion of the arrests here!

Anyway, I have re-opened the general discussion thread. If this is not correct or bothers people, let me know.

It's there if you want it.

CA-Oakland - 5 year old - Hasanni Campbell - Missing Since 8/10/09 - THREAD #4 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

(ETA: I hope that was the right thing to do... :couch: )

I choose not to believe that LE played their hand and arrested these two, only to have them released next week. Nope, I doubt they'd want to subject themselves to the humiliation. They've got something worthy of these arrests. And according to the news articles, LE just might give us a glimpse tomorrow into what that may be. Here's hoping.

I agree. They stopped holding their missing child case briefings on Wednesday to start preparing for these arrests... they didn't do that without a good idea this was a good shot.

I think you could be reading way to much into this ( could be released Tues) statement... It is just a "legal statement of fact", Its no different than saying both could get life in prison w/no possible parole. Until the moment the judge says I'm binding this over for trial and sets a bail amount in a formal courtroom with both sides (defendant and state) having legal representation, both statements are true.

 Protect -R- Babys! I saw your post reply to mine....you got a good eye to catch what posts I was talking about!!! :winko:

Think about the video that was released on the 20th where LR was talking to a reporter & mentioned that he knows now that LE was tracking his internet usage... he mentioned that is how LE knew he looked up polygraphs & told the reporter that JC was worried if it could cause her problems due to her being pregnant...yada yada yada. After that day no log in's here...signed up on the 13th! Was logging in everyday not posting(except the 2 posts), but was here, cause I was keeping an eye out for an appearance....I knew after that there would be no logging in & low & behold nope not again.

:star: :star: for you too!
