FREMONT A hiker found a decomposing body in the muddy marshlands west of Fremont on Friday, authorities said.
The discovery was reported about 4 p.m., said Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.
The Menlo Park Fire Protection District sent one of its specialized boats to help Alameda County Coroners Office officials reach the body, which is in a remote area south of where Marshlands Road ends.
Bosques said the body, which was clothed, appeared to have been lying there in the mud for some time.
The coroners office will try to identify the body and determine a cause of death, said Bosques, adding that the body isnt connected to any cases her agency is currently investigating.
