John Creech was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of his wife's lover Gavin Smith.

He was found not guilty of the more serious charge of second-degree murder.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- John Creech, a 44-year-old convicted drug dealer, was found guilty Monday of voluntary manslaughter in the 2012 death of 20th Century Fox executive Gavin Smith.

The jury rejected charges of first-degree murder - possibly landing him in prison for life - or second-degree manslaughter.Instead he now faces a possible maximum of 11 years in state prison when he returns to court in September for sentencing.
