We have to also remember that Southern California has has record setting heat for January. I wonder what effect that had on the body being found. Can't imagine a decomposing body in the trunk of a hot car. Blech.

Channel 10 (KGTV) on the 11 pm broadcast said that the body is that of a 24 yr old male. And obviously the plates match (they're showing them clearly being the Utah plates).

They're also saying that the individual is the victim of a homicide. (Of course, I posted the article above where there was significant evidence leading them to think that the female found in another car a year ago - they also immediately said was homicide and it was then declared suicide)

Employee at Jack in the Box said she usually parks HER car in the same spot Gianni's car was found in (the end spot) and she parked there TWO days ago, meaning it's only been since Wednesday.

And, as someone pointed out above, it's been VERY hot. Over 90 in much of the inland area and would also have been true up in Riverside. So...

They talked to an SDPD investigator (not sure if he was retired or not) and he was talking about how bodies found in car trunks are obviously often suspicious.

When Riverside officials said homicide, same reporter talked to the same SDPD investigator he had been with in person earlier and asked if homicide ruling meant it could not be suicide. He said no. Homicide ruling CAN include suicide (just as the incident I posted above also had happen).

KGTV replaying parts of the transmissions from that night, transcribed. Hoping they'll be on their website b/c I wasn't expecting all this and didn't tape it.

Dispatcher saying she said she was shot and nothing further.

First (female) officer saying there were two 245 victims (245=assault w/ a deadly weapon).

Then talking about what witnesses said (all transcribed - it was from the relay between officers and dispatch to then relay to other officers) and talked about conflicting suspect info and descriptions.

I'm sure they'll put more up online than the initial early articles.

But KGTV spent almost 10 minutes on the story, so...will be a good one to follow.

The car has only been there since Wednesday...OMG, I'm shocked by that news.

The Belvedere family needs every bit of comfort that's offered to them after the loss of their two sons and future daughter-in-law. They must be going through severe torment, and my heart's with them tonight.

Thinking of the Belvedere family tonight. This bizarre case just seems to get more and more strange. If the car was only at Jack in the Box for a few days...where has it been since 12/24?

I live about 2 miles from where the car was found. I've eaten at that Jack in the Box and my partner went to school about .5 miles from there. I was at disneyland tonight when I read the news, so sad and shocking. I don't think it could have been there for too long. School is back in session and MANY teens walk that area. With the record heat it would have been noticed I would think.

Wow, that's a turn of events...

Would like to see if they have footage of the car arriving and if the keys were in it. It's always possible the car was dumped somewhere and subsequently stolen by someone who got a really nasty surprise... Which I prefer to thinking Gianni has been held since 23rd and not killed straightaway.

Yep, you and I notice some of the same things, TravelingBug. We both remember Grace Anne's case.

So funny that we both posted that one! I hadn't seen yours till I just came back now!

Still wonder how what they said initially ended up turning out to be suicide, but...I don't think we'll ever know besides that being their conclusion.

I wouldn't be shocked if that ends up also being the case here. On both accounts.

I'm admittedly curious what a particular person who had inserted himself into this case might drive or have access to vehicle wise.

I suspect it would be HIGHLY unlikely given the age is exactly his age.

Obviously Gianni's not the only 24 yr old, but given it's his vehicle AND he's missing...it'd be quite the coincidence if it weren't.

I suspect they have clothing or ID or something on him that has given them confirmation already (it hadn't been all that many hours since he was found to when they confirmed the male was 24) that it's nearly certainly him. I don't think they'd have been able to do DNA or even dental records that quickly, especially since I'd think they'd have to have gotten him to San Diego or those up to them...and it all came together too quickly for that to seem likely.

This isn't Gianni related but there's no sense in starting a thread as it's irrelevant now, plus WS is the reason I started listening to the scanner during missing persons cases...

Today I happened to flip on the scanner and heard them doing a BOL for someone I know. Quite well.

It was utterly surreal. I was going to come make a thread but wanted to see more proof it really was for her...Every BOL I just kept thinking this cannot be real!

I've obviously followed many missing persons cases here - and posted extensively on some other local SD cases...Chelsea King and Amber Dubois to name a few, and obviously this case most recently.

And from all that ended up I started listening to the scanner for missing persons cases in other places.

But there is nothing like hearing it all play out not only in your neighborhood, but also for someone you know. I pray this is both the first and the last in that regard.

Since I was unable to help search once I heard they were missing, listening was the only thing I could - what a helpless feeling that is!

It was a reminder of how quickly life can change and someone can be gone in just a moment, never to be found (in any form). Thankfully, that wasn't the case with this individual, and while it's very unfortunate that Gianni's family isn't getting him home in the way that they wanted, I'm glad that it appears they will at least get some answers in the days/weeks to come.

My heart goes out to the families. We can only hope now for answers to this tragedy beyond proportions.

According to Riverside Coronor report, next of kin has been notified. ID pending, as TravelingBug already stated, means positive ID, which takes time. Questions will be: were there defensive wounds, were there signs of wrist bindings to suggest he had been previously bound. The lady in the video who puts food out for the racoons said the car had been there a week or more.

I question how the car stayed under the radar for at least 2 weeks in California. Knowing the type gun used to kill SB and IF is crucial information that still hasn't been released. Personally I have leaned towards a "hit" and not the love triangle theory. Thankfully it is NOT the San Diego ME who will do the post-mortem and that the Riverside LE will be involved in the investigation. So very sad this loss of life. My prayers to both families.

If he did not drive himself there and commit suicide, the only other scenario would be he was murdered and someone drove the car there (obviously).......

However, that seems extremely unlikely - why would somebody deposit the car in a very public place - with the potential of cameras? Why wouldn't they leave the car in a desert or something? Just based on that, my leading thought has to be suicide and he wanted to be found quickly. And like others said, with the unusual heat lately in So. CA, his body could've decomposed rather quickly.

So, has he been hiding out for 3 weeks and just killed himself? All of this makes no sense really.

Just an observation: Gianni's Toyota Camry was missing the front license plate. Missing the front plate would have been a red flag for CHP if he, or someone else, had been driving the 80 some miles between SD and Riverside. His father's black Toyota Camry at Mission Valley had the front plate.

Utah law requires that every vehicle registered in Utah, other than a motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer, must have a license plate securely attached to the front and rear of the vehicle.

Hard to know (heck, we may never know!)

But it's happened before that someone died in their own trunk of their own apparent will.

As just a year ago this month we had a girl do the same (more on her + links to details above)

Perhaps he had been hiding out and decided it was time to end the whole thing - perhaps realizing there were a lot of questions about his involvement, etc.

It'd seem really odd to me if he was really abducted and then had been concealed for 3 1/2 weeks only then to be placed where he was found.

If the person was going to dump him to not have to deal with it, why wait so long to do so?

If the person had kept him alive for awhile, why would he do that? What purpose would that serve? And why would he keep Gianni alive for some time and yet kill Ilona and Salvatore in the extremely visible parking lot? It seems like such a shift in 'tactics' for it to be homicide of both Ilona and Sal and then of Gianni.
