Serial killers Randy Kraft and Patrick Kearney, who targeted other men, were operating in Southern California in 1976. He could be a victim of either one.

I've looked in NAMUS and do not see that Greg has been ruled out as a possibility for Gacy Victim #5? Any thoughts?

I would like to know if LE checked the vehicle, there's nothing about that, so I assume they did not. If Greg gave a ride to the wrong hitchhiker, the car may provide information...

Today is Gregory's birthday. Here is everything I could find on him:

Gregory Hinz, 22, was last seen on November 15 or 19, 1976, in Altadena, LA County, CA. He was reported missing on December 14 of that year. On March 1, 1977, the LAPD located Gregory's vehicle and towed it away as abandoned. They eventually released it to Gregory's family. When his mother died, her obituary listed him as having predeceased her. Very few details are available in his case.

NamUs and Doe Network list his date of last contact as Monday, November 15, 1976, while CA DOJ and Charley Project state that Gregory went missing on Friday, November 19, 1976.

Gregory is a white male with blonde hair and blue eyes. At the time of his disappearance he was 22 years old, 6'0, and 165 lbs. He had a mustache and short beard. His date of birth is April 17, 1954. If alive today he would be 71 years old.

Gregory's case is being handled by the homicide bureau. He is classified as Endangered Missing on the Charley Project and Doe Network.

His DNA and dental records are available, according to Doe Network, while his fingerprints are not. Gregory has thirty-three UID exclusions on NamUs, though one of these is a repeat, so he actually has thirty-two. The exclusions are primarily ones found in VA, though there are three from CA (though two of those UID's NamUs pages are no longer available) and one from OR, among others. Gregory is not Josephine County (OR) John Doe May 1978.

Anyone with information about Gregory should contact the LA County Sheriff's Department - Monterey Park Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. The agency case number is 760443207 or 076-04432-0776-400.

Gregory's NamUs case was created on October 10, 2012 and last updated on December 20, 2023. His Charley Project page and Doe Network profile were last updated on July 22, 2016 and May 18, 2022, respectively.
