I agree. It doesn´t quite make sense, does it?
Who would choose to commit suicide that way?!

This isn't the first time I've read about this sort of thing happening. I would have to look up specifics- but there was a mother who drove over a cliff- also concluded as intentional- with her three children.

This is a horrific story, and I am not going to jump to any conclusions, but wait for the final report from LE.
The main focus is finding the missing three children. Against odds, I'm praying they ran away from home prior to the ill-fated excursion. Given the trips to the neighbors for food, etc., it remains a possibility in my mind. Let's pray this is right.

How do we know one (or both) of the moms had narcissistic personality disorder?

I don't have links to reports diagnosing them im just reviewing their behavior.

1. Strong displays of isolation and control - neighbors said the children looked happy and smiling...but they never talked or the neighbors didn't feel like they could talk to them
2. Suspect reports about crosses burning etc to seem like a victim
3. Telling lies, and evading people
4. Over explaining to neighbors about the children (When the girl ran away to the neighbors the family came over to get her, and then the parents came over again with a written apology and then they proceeded to introduce the children) This was done to preserve their image and maintain control
5. Taking many pictures and allowing the children into the media/spotlight...
6. Tryna pass off high quality filmmaking projects like they're everyday life videos
7. Devonte was crying before he talked to the police man and it was reported that he was talking to one of the women (yet he was not consoled. There was no image of him hugging his mom).
8. Manner of death
9. Homeschooling so many children without outside help
10. What I thought was common sense but will humbly attribute to lessons learned from life

Why Ordinary People Murder Their Families

Can you explain how seemingly average people wind up committing such an extreme crime?

There are certain factors that we find in almost every annihilation, especially the ones where the motive is revenge: There's a catalyst that is seen as catastrophic in the mind of the killer. The percipient is usually a nasty divorce or child-custody battle. There's a loss of a relationship. There's an externalization of blame.

The killer believes that the spouse is responsible for the destruction of the family unit. The children are killed because the husband blames the wife and kills everything associated with her … first the children go and then the wife—everything associated with the person is considered evil.

Study: family killers are usually men and fit one of four distinct profiles

Self-righteous killers hold the mother responsible for the breakdown of the family and will often call her before to explain what he is about to do.

Disappointed killers believe their family has let them down, and the killing could be sparked by something like children not choosing to follow religious customs.

Anomic killers see the family as a symbol of their own economic success, but if they suffer some kind of economic failure -- bankruptcy, for example -- the family no longer serves this function.

Paranoid killers are often motivated by a desire to protect their family from a perceived threat, such as having children taken away by social services.

Again, I wonder “How did they afford this?” The hiking boots alone. Those things aren’t cheap - around $100 a pair. Maybe they’re available at thrift shops in that area.

Maybe she gets a discount at Kohl's.

JMO

Just reading about this case for the first time.

As far as possibly committing suicide I think that is possible because most people see those movies where a car goes off a cliff and bursts into flames in a fiery explosion.

I think lots of people would think it would be a quick and painless way to go so I think its a possible theory. The other kids either let out or put somewhere else and they choose who they want to take with them.

If its something like that then what is common about the ones they chose to take with them off the cliff. Or what is common about the ones that are missing. For this theory to be true there had to be a reason the 3 missing were chosen to not be in the car off the cliff.

But they had been on that highway for 2 days already. When you are on highway 1, there is no way to ignore the huge ocean, dangerously lurking to your immediate right. It is scary because you are often just a few feet away from the cliffs.

I just do not believe that the driver did not know they were heading towards the ocean. She had just pulled off from the highway, which was right behind her. She knew, imo. :rose:

Driving for 2 days already? Did they stop somewhere?

Reading through the thread, I see I'm not the only one getting mixed up between Abigail and Hannah.

My reason for confusion is the ages listed for the two blood sisters, where Hannah is listed at 16 and Abigail is listed as 14. There could be closer to three years difference between the two girls, depending on their dates of birth. In all the pictures I've seen, the girl who now wears glasses looks to be the older one, but is being identified as Abigail, I thought she was Hannah until I started cross checking all of the details- because the latest reports say that Hannah was the one who was missing teeth. The girl who wore glasses had all her front teeth and the smaller girl rarely showed her teeth.

The likelihood that friends and family would not correct this if it was an error is slim to none.

So my question is what kind of genetics or medical issue could account for such a difference in both size and facial maturity? Clearly, the smaller girl did not show any evidence of dwarfism. Based off the information reported, Abigail was 2 and Hannah was 4 when they were adopted, if that helps.

I’m still confused. If someone could post the most recent photo with their names it would be greatly appreciated.

The kids didn't go to a Waldorf school. Why is this being brought up so much?

I brought it up. Why? Because it was said that the parents were derpiving the kids because they did not allow electronics.

I brought up the fact that many Silicone Valley parents in the tech industry send their kids to Waldorf schools because Waldorf is not into tech.

It was merely an expample of how tech parents do not have tech for their kids.

To me, it is documentable that some tech parents do not like tech for their kids. I provided the articles that stated that Silicone Valley tech parents send their kids to Waldorf schools.

As much as I think beating a kid till she has black, and blue marks is abusive, I don’t think depriving kids of tech is abusive,

They learn it in minutes. I live in a Third World country where most kids do nit have internet. They have it at achool and each village has free internet. My neighbor has it and has given everyone his code.

The kids learn it in minutes.

... while I understand the comparison, thelma and Louise did not take children with them... to use that comparison to me erases the horror of the death of the children and places attention on the adults only... they drove off a cliff and their names should be used IMHO

Excellent point about the movie. I remember that moment at the end of the movie when the whole theater gasped in shock. ...A couple of decades ago.

What it describes to me is the mythology of the two outlaw women on the run. And then the spontaneous decision to end it the way they did. "Their headspace" as the deciding adults. Feeling no way out? Driving the car into the abyss. -The poetic surprise...

But the truth is, we don't even know if Jen or Sarah ever saw the movie. And it shouldn't glamorize something either so much more unfathomable, or sinister, or something not fully understood, or investigated, yet.

Ah, yes, one of the first true crime-murder incidents I read a book about [emoji20]

Here is the incident I was thinking about. It was probably discussed here- actually, it was pretty recent:

Very similar thanks for posting this. I missed this one.

BOISE, Idaho — An Idaho woman intentionally steered her SUV off a cliff into a lake last year, killing herself and her three children, authorities say.

The horrific crash occured June 2, 2016.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office announced Friday that investigators have concluded that Noel Bankhead, 40, of Boise purposefully drove her Land Rover off the sharp dropoff on the side of a road near the Idaho 21 bridge over Lucky Peak, commonly known as the High Bridge.

The SUV plummeted more than 50 feet before it hit the water, investigators say. The vehicle quickly sank to the bottom of the reservoir.

Witnesses said that Bankhead was driving north on Idaho 21 at about 7 a.m. when she slowed down, turned onto Spring Shores Road, pointed the SUV toward the cliff, and suddenly accelerated off the edge.

No skid marks or indication of braking was found. Investigators also found no evidence of mechanical problems with the SUV.
