For some reason I'm apparently the only person who actually totally thinks that pic looks like Jen lol. Like I maybe would have recognized her. I mean, maybe, as much as I pay attention idk but maybe it's because she looks a lot like someone I know? Idk

I do too. I think her face is rounder due to some weight gain but body shape, nose, and she has a very square smile, & lips, are the similarities, to me. She has no highlights but full hair, same style, and in some previous pics had glasses propped in her hair. Same type of leggings. Her coloring looks pale, but that is florescent lighting.
IMO.

This seems odd to me. I’ve never heard a child use the term “cured meats”.
Maybe it’s regional but I haven’t heard that term since my grandpa died.

That may have been the neighbor's term. Maybe he said Spam, or something similar. It was the way the article phrased it.

That can also be something to reduce alarm when reviewing complaints of child abuse or suspect behavior. When someone is viewed as an expert or educated person in that area, people trust their word much more quickly.

That has not been my experience in dealing with protective services in 2 states. Workers are trained not to let socio-eco status or education level or job as a factor. I am not sure about judges but I know in the field for initial investigations there are certain factors that are assessed. There have been too many high profile educators and highly educated people in the past who have been accused and performed abuse to have that be mitigating. JMHO.

The kids look miserable in this picture. Like a cross between sadness and anger. ,

My kids all love things like pepperoni and salami and know they keep well unrefrigerated... the older ones have helped me cure hams and would probably know what cured meats are but likely not refer to them as such.

Early on, before black box was used for info, LE said the gravel pulloff was 75 Ft. wide from road to cliff.

I see this article describing it in a way that makes me think, now, the distance (70 ft, it seems) from stopped car to going off cliff is coming from somewhere.

On April 1, 2018, a spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol told KOIN 6 News that a preliminary investigation shows the crash, which happened off a cliff in Westport, California, on March 26, was an "intentional act," and not the result of a traffic accident. The CHP spokesperson told KOIN 6 News that the vehicle, a 2003 GMC SUV, came to a stop 70-feet from the edge -- approximately 5 feet off the highway -- before it accelerated and plunged off the cliff.

I thought the same thing, but thought he probably asked for jerky.

His wife wanted to call 911 that day. Bruce DeKalb went next door and visited briefly but did not see anything concrete.

The DeKalbs’ daughter is an educator with expertise in special-needs children and infants born addicted to drugs, her father said, and they thought that might explain the family’s reclusiveness and Hannah Hart’s conduct.

They kept a watchful eye, he said, though the children rarely came outside.

Seems to me that they were getting guidance from their daughter who is also an educator. The mom wanted to call for help immediately to be a mandated reporter in my opinion.

The food he was asking for was preserved food.
That gives a tiny little hope they may be alive somewhere,

I found this mention of the kids by their former principal.

Two and a half years after enrolling, the children left public schools. Markis was a seventh-grader at Discovery Middle School, and the other five children, who ranged from kindergarten to third grade, attended Woodland Elementary.

Scott Heckert, the principal of Woodland at the time, recalled the Harts as an insular family whose children — despite being amiable and outgoing among their peers — rarely spent time with others outside the classroom.

Thanks for the info. Amiable and outgoing with their peers does not suggest any kind of behavioral problems in the classroom.

Yea I don't think so either. So far, no one has complained about behavior problems or suggested that aside from the hart women suggesting it about the children's past or in response to complaints of abuse.

Not everyone felt all the love all the time. I'm sure this was shared before, but I missed this part.

Christine Washington said she met the family in 2014 at a music festival. She said she would occasionally see the family at events in Portland.

Washington said she felt an immediate connection to the six children because she was adopted. She said she shared the same hometown of Dallas that three of the children were from.

"I told Jen, 'I wanted to be a part of their life. Forever,'" she said.

She said she wanted to be close with the kids and could be like a mentor for them.

"I wanted to let those kids know that I had been through the same traumatic situations that they were in, and I am still smiling and I'm still OK."

Sarah Hart, she said, told her she felt overwhelmed and impatient with the children at home. She said she tried to help and watch the kids but the parents declined the offer.

Best case scenario imo is that they hid those kids somewhere with people they knew off grid or something, and the car crash happened afterwards. Is that possible, based on what is known of their movements?

I think that's totally possible. I think it's possible Sarah might have been emotionally abused by Jennifer as well, and had had enough. I hesitate to put Sarah in the same category as Jennifer even though she's the one that was punished for abuse. I think she was made to take the fall for Jennifer, by Jennifer.

ETA I'm not surprised Jennifer looks nothing like the media-friendly photos that are being put in the news.

It's quite possible that the weaker of the two, the one who was bullied, was prone to taking it out on those who are weaker - the children.

according to her LinkedIn, Sarah had a degree in education... maybe that’s what helped them qualify as adoptive parents.

Wow, with a minor in special education no less.

Really makes one wonder why she was the one working and Jen stayed home with the kids.

Maybe the two women couldn't afford to buy groceries and put the children up to asking the neighbors for food.

I just feel like she may as well have just walked over and thrown herself off the cliff if she was going to suddenly have absolute determination to end the relationship right then and there.

If you live with an abusive partner, you know it's not wise to argue with them when there are weapons nearby. And a 70 foot drop off into the ocean is definitely a weapon in a scenario like that.

She's a family annihilator. She didn't want to face her own future, and she decided that the rest of the family couldn't manage without her, that they were better off dead.

Just me, but if some random lady I met at an event and only saw a couple of times at other events said she wanted to be part of my kids’ life “forever” and offered to babysit, I would decline too. That would freak me out tbh.

I really doubt they would want that kind of attention. They're attention seekers, but not that kind! Also, food stamps.

So why would Devonte want it dropped by the fence?

I hope today's intense pre-storm search includes nearby campsites as well as the ocean. Don't mean to be graphic but if those kids are in the ocean, the coming storm can't make things any worse for them, but if they happen (unlikely though it may be) to be hunkered down at a campsite nearby, it most certainly will...

So far everything I've seen indicates LE believes all the children were in the car when it went over the edge. I haven't seen any reason given for that belief, but there hasn't been any info about them searching for the kids anywhere but the ocean/shore as far as I know.
