Found Deceased CA - Ian Powers, 32, Levi's Stadium, 49ers game, Santa Clara, 12 Nov 2018

I find it VERY hard to believe that a fan of a rival sports team would go to a game prepared to drug someone from the opposite team. I think that aunt is wishfully thinking he didn't get drunk all on his own.

Curious, why would a rival team fan be sitting near him?

this seems really weird? So the call he made at ten pm to "family" was to the girlfriend, and she said they couldn't hear him? I wonder if he was really drunk or something?

Or maybe drugged?

It happens in every sport. There isn't a separate section for fans of visiting teams. Some fans are great and we've had fun with many, but there is a few that are troublemakers and can be rude.

I know we have discussed whether Ian was drunk or not.

However, has anyone actually read (in mainstream media, etc.,) that he was drinking? See my post below. Found an article.

I read where he was offered a beer by fans sitting next to him, but did he have anything else to drink (alcoholic) that night? (Post #352.)

Did we just theorize that he was drunk, or did we actually read that somewhere?
(If he had been drugged, he could have slurred his words when speaking to gf on the phone.)

So sad.

Oh, I thought you could buy seats in a visitor’s section for each team.

Oh I was gonna post last night and suggest someone adding something to his drink. It happens. I know two people - one male and one female - minding their own business, enjoying life, who had something slipped into their drink. It could have ended very badly for both of them. In fact if friends had not been present to help out - well who knows??

I am very saddened by this news.

Fans from rival teams sit all over the stadium. It just depends on where they're able to get seats and there isn’t designated areas for home team fans/or opposing team fans at large stadiums.
Everyone just sits together.

It’s sad because that NFL Monday Night Football game was a “Veterans Day Game” honoring the men and women who bravely serve our country .
Ian was probably really looking forward to that big game...a highlight of their family vacation.

^ I can attest to this! I was in D.C. once and saw there was a Redskins game the day before we left and tickets were pretty inexpensive, we bought some and had to sit in accessible seating because I was on crutches at the time. We weren’t wearing the colors of either team, just wanting the experience of a pro football game, and some rowdy Redskins fans above us threw drinks and empty cans down where I was sitting with my mom. We weren’t even cheering against them and most of the fans around them were seemingly cheering them on! Fortunately the security had already spotted them and they were taken out of the stadium.

I 100% understand being an over the top sports fan, I just hate when some people make it nasty.

I hope that this isn’t connected to Ian’s disappearance. That would be just too awful.

Back in the 90’s we used to have shared season tickets to the CLE Indians games. Some of the East Coast rival fans (not naming any names, lol), would come especially during the playoffs and they would get very drunk and very belligerent. :(

A few more photos of Ian the day of the game and at the game. There’s also a couple of videos of them at the game, but I’m unable to share them. IMHO, Ian doesn’t appear to be impaired in the video... just having fun with his kids. There were definitely fans from both teams in their section.

Here's the article Mercedes mentions with the information about his "drinking alcohol that night". I'm sure it's been posted before but I missed it so thought others might have also. Interestingly, it doesn't say how much he drank (could be he only drank the beer he was offered by the neighboring fans?). I guess LE will know the answer to this question.

Our friends from Europe can't imagine rival fans sitting together.I am a huge football fan and most ultras have to be seperated by security and barriers or there wouldn't need to be a search the victims would be in their seats.

  • #378
We have MN Vikings season tickets. The seats to the right of our seats are season ticket holders, but not on the left side. We've never had any problems with the visiting team fans sitting next to us. We've actually really enjoyed meeting most of them. However, we usually see a few rowdy and drunk fans at each game. It's not unusual to see a fan being escorted out of the game. I hope nobody drugged IP and I hope he's found safe and sound. :(

I don't think drugging is really an option but the family looking for excuses.

I’ve heard of people who were given roofies in bars/clubs/restaurants who ended up missing, raped, waking up somewhere not knowing how they got there?

I suppose it could happen just as easily at a ballgame too.
