Did anyone here read Rope Burns by Robert Scott? I thought of getting the book for the true crime section of my bookshelf as it discussed the case of Jaycee Dugard before she was found, but the book appears to be very graphic regarding what was done to James and Michelle’s victims.
I haven’t read it yet but I will be soon!

I am honestly surprised the detectives investigating Ilene’s case haven’t gone to question Daveggio more about her case. He seems like a more plausible suspect in comparison to all the other suspects named in the case.

Something that still bothers me is Ilene’s body not being found. I noticed and Michaud did very little to conceal Vanessa Samson’s body after they murdered her in 1997.

It’s worth noting Daveggio is also a suspect in the murder of fourteen year old Kellie Poppleton who was found on side of Kilkare Road in Sunol, California after being sexually assaulted and killed on December 2nd 1983 (exactly 14 years before Samson’s murder).

In both Samson and Poppleton’s cases, there was minimal effort made towards hiding the victims body. What would’ve made Ilene different? If Daveggio had killed Ilene and simply left her out in the open somewhere, I have a feeling she would’ve been found rather quickly.

I’m thinking maybe the intense media response to Ilene’s abduction might’ve spooked Daveggio. The only scenarios I can think of for why Ilene hasn’t been found yet are as follows:

1.) Daveggio left her out in the open in a remote area that isn’t easily accessible to searchers or the general public

2.) Daveggio left Ilene out in the open somewhere but went back to bury her upon seeing the huge media storm surrounding Ilene’s case and he feared he’d get caught this time

3.) Ilene was the first known victim he decided to bury or conceal

Daveggio leaving the Pleasanton area so soon after Ilene’s disappearance could be an indication that he was fearful of being caught for her murder no matter how hard he worked to dispose of Ilene.

I honestly don’t think he anticipated the media/public’s reaction to Misheloff going missing and that left him spooked because everyone was out looking for Ilene or something that could lead to her.

Unless it's a previously found UID never linked to her via DNA or dental records...
I don't think she's still alive, unfortunately, but Jaycee Dugard's case taught me to be open to all solutions...

I wouldn’t be surprised if she was a UID. If she is though, I’m assuming she’s not very close to the Bay Area otherwise her dentals or DNA would’ve been compared in a heartbeat. That’s why I’m under the assumption that Daveggio buried or concealed Ilene with more thought than his other victims.

As for Ilene being alive, I’m highly doubtful. I’m of the opinion that Jaycee Dugard was the only survivor of the Bay Area kidnappings that occurred during the late 80s/early 90s. I hoped for a long time that all these girls would be found living like Dugard but I sadly don’t think it’s possible.

So if Deveggio is not the person who took her, and either are the Speed freak killers then who else would be a suspect? Julian Ramirez lived across the street from Poppleton in Fremont and tried to assault another girl who was waiting on a bus in front of his house.......that little Hero fought her way out.

The backpack showing up after she was reported missing is disturbing.

I’m pretty confident this is Daveggio’s dirty work. Though, I could see Julian Ramirez being an alternative suspect.

Poppleton more than likely was killed by Ramirez as there’s reports to indicate he was one of the last one seen with her. However, I could also see Daveggio being involved because her clothes were pushed off, she was tortured and she was dumped on a roadside like Vanessa Samson.

Did the media speculate that Jaycee's case was related to Ilene, Michaela's or Amber Schwartz-Garcia's before she was found? I ask because I don't get the impression that Jaycee's case was discussed alongside Ilene, Michela or Amber's. It seems like those three were discussed together because of Timothy Bindner contacting each of their families (a poster on another thread said there was nothing to suggest that Tim Bindner ever contacted Jaycee's mom or former stepdad) which resulted in the book Stalemate by John Philpin and the Unsolved Mysteries segment about Bindner.

I'm willing to be wrong.
