I think this is a match for this John Doe. I saw this suggested match suggested on Grateful Doe. Everything matches including the scar on his knee, the curly hair, the height and even where the john doe was found and mitchell went missing from. Mitchell Todd Hein – The Charley Project

His NamUs was modified today; there is ONE new public exclusion:

Donald Ewalt (MP14858) - Missing from El Centro, California since 1979.

Mr. Ewalt certainly resembles the reconstruction.

Glad to see an older Doe from California with dna on file. That's a rarity!

His profile was modified June 15, but any changes, if any, don't appear to be visible. Is there DNA on file for Mitchell?

Great find @victoriarobinson642!

In early March 1983 he hitched a ride to California with his friend's father. They stopped to spend the night in Indio, California and that night, Hein left the hotel room and never returned. He has never been heard from again.

Hein is described as "anti-establishment" and may have been involved with drugs in 1983. He reportedly threw away his Social Security card and driver's license and may have no identification with him.
Throwing away his SS and driver's license is quite a telling sign. Sounds like Mitchell might have committed suicide.

I hope you found the peace you were searching for.
RIP.
