“As you can imagine, technology has rapidly changed in the area of DNA," Irvine PD spokesperson Kyle Oldoerp told 2 News Nevada. "The victim’s DNA was entered into a database, and really this was an amazing collaboration through local and federal partners over years of not giving up on this case."

Oldoerp said that detectives suspect that Thomas left Reno as a teenager and made her way to Southern California

The colorful Care Bear stuffed animals on Marcia Shirree Thomas’ rainbow sheets didn’t move the night of June 9, 2009. The dinner left in the microwave for her to heat up when she got home was untouched.
And the Reno girl who loved to style her hair in front of the mirror wasn't in the bathroom.
The night Marcia, 14, left to visit a friend was the last time her family would see the girl who was on the honor roll and dreamed of going to college.

Possible. Groomed by some "loverboy" who trafficked her later.
They make sure her family knows nothing about the "relationship" and that there is no contact whatsoever after running away.
Marcia had a stable, loving family and was successful in school. Being groomed secretly and then trafficked is the most likely scenario here I am afraid.

My guess is because she was around 6ft tall and she was picked up as a 'prostitute'. That is my guess. It's sad that she was 14 and most likely trafficked and only survived a couple of months.

I think it is very important to let little girls know that grown men WILL take advantage of you. Show them as much love as possible and to remember home is a safe place. Not in some grown man arms. smh just sad all around

Neither of those things would have any effect on a forensic odontology exam; the entire lack of professional dental care seen with these remains probably threw off the results. Your dental age is usually off from your chronological age by a few years at least anyways, and the provided age range of 13-26 did end up being accurate.
