GUILTY CA - Israel Ledesma-Moreno for kidnap of 3yo boy, San Bernardino, 2009

Yes she did do a fine job, I did get a little frustrated that she was ruling out a possible factor in the kidnapping...but, it is about getting Briant home, the why's can be answered later. I thought Marc did a fabulous job of bringing it back to the important points. I was so glad she covered the story right off the bat !

Yes, I assume you mean the 'motive' for the crime that Nancy talked about.

To me the motive would be valuable in trying to figure out what they would do with him. It had to be something other than a reward as they don't look like a wealthy family. Other possibilities go nowhere with me unless these guys were trying to make a statement. To show the world they have power and that no one can mess with them. That about says the mentality of 2 hoods that would do such an awful thing.

On HLN right now they are saying home invasions and kidnapping are on the rise in Maricopa county. Rarely are children taken but it is an increasing phenom. Phoenix has established a task force to deal with these kidnappings. Hmmm, about 58,000 children are kidnapped every year in the United States.

A guy from the missingkids.com says that LE are on top of the case and working very hard to bring this little guy home qnd not put the child in more danger than he is now. They are working the case in parallel tracks - looking at people close to the family and are on a tight timeline as that window is closing fast. There are undreds of cases where adults have been taken for ransom but relatively few are children, but it is a growing concern as it is happening more often, usually for $$$'s.

Just a quick recap.

From our 6 pm news:
one of the boys was 12-13 I cannot remember, he is the one that told officers that the kidnappers were communicating with walkie talkies. One told the other in the walkie talkie if anyone drives up or walks by just shoot them.
The news also reported the father is a gardener and was at work. i think someone asked.

She was specifically told not to call the police after they left. So they most likely took the boy to keep her from calling. jmho of course.

the big question is what were they after.

I live in Southern Oregon and there is a well developed network in the Hispanic community. No actual newspaper that I know of, but very strong community.
Three years of Spanish in school and I can read it, but cannot speak it.

I will check online for the CA Hispanic press outlets.

What a bonus for us! All I can do is order dinner in Spanish! LOL xox

this business about seeing the kidnappers communicate with each other by way of walkie talkies was on our local news they interviewed the little boy that saw and heard it directly. I was kind of surprise they would let a youngster go on camera.

one of the perps was wearing a white bandana so I did a search to see if it is a flag for any gang... I found this at wikkianswers (in short, white means neutral/no gang association or undecided)
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_the_white_bandana_mean

One of the fastest growing gangs in California is M13:

The MS-13 are identified by their numerous tattoos on their bodies and faces. They wear blue and white colors taken from the El Salvadoran flag.

I could be TOTALLY wrong --

Maybe I am having an off night, but walkie talkies?
Do thieves, robbers, kidnappers use walkie talkies?
Don't they usually bring in other channels?
Seems odd?
Other men outside who are told to kill anyone coming by?
It is a Sunday afternoon. Anyone could be out and about in the neighborhood.
You go to rob a house, you would just go in, grab the cash, valuables, and leave. At least, that is what I think they would do.
They take a cell phone and cash out of the mom's pocket. ?
Home invasion in a not rich neighborhood, on a Sunday afternoon, with a mom and 5 kids at home? With at least 3 men, and no one sees a car or hears a car and no one sees these men?
And it was reported they were tied up with red tape. Red tape? What kind of red tape? Don't most robbers use duct tape? Is this something new?
IMHO:
It just does not add up to me.
Why does this whole thing seem odd to me?
Like I said, maybe I am having an off night.

I live on the same Rd that this all happened but in the 4000 block which is considered Riverside County. The abduction was in the 8000 block which is over the Hill in San Bernardino County. It is just way too close and sooo scary. The local newspaper is The Press Enterprise. Here is a Link:

Sorry, I didnt post sooner..My Internet has been down all day!

Oh my goodness, I am so glad you have some insight. Is this more common there than we have been lead to believe ? It just sounds so terrible and odd.

hey there dolly! Here is another snip from your link..
Neighbors expressed support for the family and concern for what some described as a high level of crime in the area.

"It's all over the place," 60-year-old Cindy Greenleaf said, recalling gang activity, shootings, rapes and drug abuse in the neighborhood just northwest of San Bernardino International Airport.

I wonder if it could have something to do with one of the teenagers. If one of the kids was 16, maybe they were involved in drugs or owed money and the brother was taken as collateral or in revenge.

Hi Dreamweaver, I think Nancy inferred it was RED duct tape as she then had a convo saying LE would have a good chance of getting fingerprints and DNA off of it.

And I was wrong. The 8 yr old brother got free and then freed his mother who was the one who ran to a next door business to call the police.

Marc Klaas was so upset that 9 hours went by before the AA was called into effect. He said Califas has to change their regulations with that law as if there is no car, no AA. He said in his daughters case there was no known car but a good possibility an AA would have helped find her. I don't think the new AA system in the European countries require a car to call for a viable alert.

  • #79
the link that dolly posted above mentions the red tape... it also states that the AA is not being flashed on the boards..it is only out to police... because they do not have a vehicle description! wtf???
San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller said the alert wasn't on the freeways because investigators have no description of a getaway vehicle.
