'Godfather of Black Music' Clarence Avant's wife is shot dead in 'home invasion' in Los Angeles | Daily Mail Online

"Beverly Hills police were called to the home in Trousdale Estates around 2.30am Wednesday after a 911 caller said someone had been shot, according to Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook.

Officers arriving at the scene discovered one victim, Avant's wife of 54 years, Jacqueline Avant, suffering from a gunshot wound. Clarence Avant, 90, was in the home at the time but was not injured.

Police said there were no suspects at the scene when they arrived, and so far a manhunt has not led investigators to the killer or killers."

Jacqueline was transported to a local hospital but died later that morning. She was 81 years old.

“We will not speculate on anything that’s out there, including if this was a robbery attempt or not,” Stainbrook said. He did confirm that Clarence Avant and a security guard were home at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured, he said.

A security guard was present in the home!

Suspect arrested for killing of Clarence Avant's wife, 81, in Beverly Hills home invasion | Daily Mail Online

"BREAKING: Suspect is arrested for killing of Clarence Avant's wife, 81, in Beverly Hills home invasion: Cops reveal private security guard was armed but did not return fire during the targeted attack"

"Police have taken a suspect into custody in the shooting death of Jacqueline Avant, the wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant.

Family sources have confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection to the death of the 81-year-old who was shot dead early Wednesday morning in her $7 million Beverly Hills mansion despite a security guard being on the property.

Police have not yet named the suspect or commented on a possible motivation for the fatal shooting, but on Wednesday Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook said the horrific slaying was likely not 'random.'

'I don't think it's a random attack,' he said at a press conference on Wednesday. 'but I can't speculate on that right now.'

'Obviously, someone went into the home, we just don't know what the purpose was,' Stainbrook told reporters. 'A lot of times people think home invasion when it comes to robbing or burglarizing a residence. ... I think there are a lot of nuances to the term home invasion.'

Police said Clarence and a security guard were home at the time of the attack but not harmed."

This is crazy. What would make someone risk entering a home with people there, including an armed SECURITY GUARD, to kill an 81 year old woman???

RIP Mrs. Avant, I am so sorry that you had to leave this Earth prematurely and violently. My sincere condolences to the family and friends.

It is extremely unfortunate that the alleged assailant, Aariel Maynor, was granted parole. He clearly was a threat to the public. Hopefully, if found guilty, he will never be a threat to anyone else. MOO

Jacqueline is mentioned in this article

Beverly Hills city council unanimously votes to RECALL Los Angeles DA George Gascón | Daily Mail Online

'Over the last 12 months, Los Angeles County has seen a dramatic increase in widespread crime including follow-home robberies, smash-and-grab incidents and the tragic death of beloved Beverly Hills philanthropist Jacqueline Avant,' the city council said in a statement.

The council also cited a number of policy directives issued by Gascón, including the elimination of bail for any misdemeanor or 'non-serious' felony, and a policy of refusing to charge numerous misdemeanors.

Last month, Beverly Hills residents were stunned by the home invasion murder of Jacqueline Avant, who was gunned down in front of her husband, famed music producer Clarence Avant.

Gascón responded by lamenting that the career criminal charged in the murder hadn't been properly rehabilitated.

Aariel Maynor, 29, was on parole when he was arrested earlier this month and charged with the shocking home-invasion murder in Avant's Beverly Hills mansion.

Maynor served two prison terms of five years and four years on separate robbery convictions, in addition to convictions on domestic violence and grand theft charges. He has pleaded not guilty to Avant's murder.
