Search for a missing woman reaches Central Coast after a sighting in Salinas

Tull, who used to work as a kindergarten teacher in Modesto, recently relocated to Riverbank in Stanislaus County.

The morning of the crash, she was spotted in Salinas’ Chinatown, looking to volunteer with the homeless. Tull was also in Monterey the night before.

“At this time nothing tends to lead or show that any foul play or anybody is suspected of being involved in Jamie's disappearance,” said Detective Chris Sziraki with the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.

That's how I read it. So why this would be relevant is perplexing.

It sounds to me like she drove straight from the coast to the crash site. That would be a much more logical route to Yellowstone than if she had left from her home.

I don't know how she planned to help the homeless. But maybe she just left money or her wedding ring. The other sighting might have been during a fuel fill up.

It seems that she has been using threats of suicide as a cry for help. I wonder what help she has received.

July 28th KSBW news:

Her father, Jim Devenport, thinks Tull is suicidal, and that the car crash was a suicide attempt.

He said that Tull frequently threatened suicide after she stopped taking her medication.
Her father also believes that she could have been picked up and held captive, or that she went hitchhiking and is now off the grid.

“The worst is that we're looking for a body now,” said Tull's brother Aaron Devenport.

During their minutes-long conversation, he said his wife went off the road at the end of East Childs Avenue at North Cunningham Road, through a couple of fences before crashing into a cattle gate. After the wreck, he said he heard music from the car before Jamie Tull got back on the phone to let him know where she was.
<snip>
Before they could get there, Merced County Sheriff’s Department deputies already had arrived.
If she was suicidal, seems she would probably just go find cover and hide somewhere that is peaceful, and do what she was going to do within the hour or so, more or less. How far would she have walked? Did anyone notice buzzards or anything?

If you look on this shot of the map, there are a couple of points where water meets road, plus a pond. Everything east of the crash site is open fields, so unless she knew what was miles away past the farmland, I can't imagine she would go that way. It's just flat and open. There are crops just off the road and to the south (not shown), so she may have sat down between some....

I wish we knew where they had already searched.

The former Modesto school teacher who went missing nearly three weeks ago in Merced County was found alive Friday morning, authorities said.
Jamie Tull, 36, was discovered in a field east of Le Grand near where she crashed her vehicle off East Childs Avenue east of South Cunningham Road, according to Merced County Sheriff’s Department officials.
Sheriff Vern Warnke said Tull was found by two ranchers and a volunteer working with the search party her father organized.

Wow, what a miracle she was found alive after all this time. Was she out there all this time?

ETA: Oops I didn't read the rest of the article:
Warnke said Tull told investigators Friday that didn't want to be found. She told investigators she hid in a water tank for many days. She asked investigators to leave her some food and water and "go away,” Warnke said.

He said she had good vital signs but suffered from extreme exhaustion and sunburn. She was transported to the burn unit at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

During the 17 days since she went missing, Tull only ate two grasshoppers and a fly, she told investigators.
Warnke speculated Friday might have been her last day to live.

"Evidently, she's got some issues emotionally as to why she didn't want to be found," Warnke said. "We'll let the family work through that."

Wow incredible. It has been over 100 degrees here for over a week. I can't believe she survived. It's a miracle she didn't die from heat exhaustion .

So happy she was found safe! I've been following this from the beginning and this scenario is not one I even considered.
