I wasn't going to say this in my first post, but I suspected her roommates from the time I heard she was missing. Here's why:
I talked to/dated Janet. A little bit over a year. The last time we went out was late February, and we were supposed to celebrate my birthday last month. However due to tragedy in my own life, I had blown her off, but she remained patient and understanding. Janet was selectively private, and didn't tell her family about her dating life. I met her roommates once this year in passing, when I was leaving their apartment one morning. Tuesday when they reported Janet missing, at 4:41pm I got two back to back phone calls from a number I didn't know, so i ignored them. Later when I listened to the voicemail, it was somebody saying they are Janet's sister, they needed to ask me some questions, and it was an emergency. I was suspicious because I know Janet keeps her dating life private from her family, so how would her sister have my phone number? I googled Janet Mejia, and sure enough, her picture popped up as the first search result and my heart sunk. The only details at the time, were that she was last seen at 9am on her way out to a doctor appointment in Stockton. The last person reported to see her was her roommate, not any neighbors.
I know for a fact that it wasn't uncommon for Janet or her roommates to be away from the apartment for long periods of time with no concerns, which makes sense. They're all adults. So I thought it was fishy that if she was seen at 9, the fact that I got a call almost seven hours later means that for whatever reason, in 6 hours or less, her roommates decided that it was alarming that they hadn't heard from her.
Another reason I suspected the roommates, is that Janet's cell phone was missing, and off. The only way that Daisy, Janet's sister could get my number is if A) the sheriff had so quickly subpoenaed Janet's phone records and turn it over to her, which is unlikely, B) someone had Janet's phone at some point to retrieve my number and give it to her. When I talked to Janet's sister on the phone, she had made a comment that my name kept popping up in the investigation, and that I need to call the sheriff so that they could "cross me off the list". This made sense to me, as in any investigation, law enforcement likes to take a look at any romantic interests. I know that the source of any mention of me, had to be her roommates, and I assumed that they went through Janet's phone to retrieve my number, with the intent to shake the family and the sheriff off their trail.
Janet's car, and credit card were found equal distances away from her home, in opposite directions. This led me to believe that whomever responsible both had knowledge of what her whereabouts were supposed to be, and also, theyre from the same area.
Lastly, at Parkwood Knoll (the apartments where Janet lived) it would be impossible for Janet to have been abducted en route to Stockton. From her apartment to the freeway, it is a straight shot. Even if she had stopped for gas or coffee before getting on the freeway, that area is far too populated at 9am for anyone to have abducted her. This means that somebody had to have abducted her at her parking space, or that the roommate was lying, because Janet was already dead. The easy guess was that the male roommate killed her. He is a felon, and when we met, it was not cordial. It was more like a "which of us is the alpha here" staredown. I don't know which of the two reported that they saw Janet leave at 9am. If it was the female, I expect her to be arrested soon as well, because that detail is a lie considering Janet never made it to work the day before.
It sounds cliche, but Janet didn't deserve this at all. No words can accurately measure how true that is. She was the purest soul I have ever met. I'm so sorry Janet. RIP
