CA - Janet Mejia, 28, Sacramento, 11 April 2017 *Arrest*

I wasn't going to say this in my first post, but I suspected her roommates from the time I heard she was missing. Here's why:

I talked to/dated Janet. A little bit over a year. The last time we went out was late February, and we were supposed to celebrate my birthday last month. However due to tragedy in my own life, I had blown her off, but she remained patient and understanding. Janet was selectively private, and didn't tell her family about her dating life. I met her roommates once this year in passing, when I was leaving their apartment one morning. Tuesday when they reported Janet missing, at 4:41pm I got two back to back phone calls from a number I didn't know, so i ignored them. Later when I listened to the voicemail, it was somebody saying they are Janet's sister, they needed to ask me some questions, and it was an emergency. I was suspicious because I know Janet keeps her dating life private from her family, so how would her sister have my phone number? I googled Janet Mejia, and sure enough, her picture popped up as the first search result and my heart sunk. The only details at the time, were that she was last seen at 9am on her way out to a doctor appointment in Stockton. The last person reported to see her was her roommate, not any neighbors.

I know for a fact that it wasn't uncommon for Janet or her roommates to be away from the apartment for long periods of time with no concerns, which makes sense. They're all adults. So I thought it was fishy that if she was seen at 9, the fact that I got a call almost seven hours later means that for whatever reason, in 6 hours or less, her roommates decided that it was alarming that they hadn't heard from her.

Another reason I suspected the roommates, is that Janet's cell phone was missing, and off. The only way that Daisy, Janet's sister could get my number is if A) the sheriff had so quickly subpoenaed Janet's phone records and turn it over to her, which is unlikely, B) someone had Janet's phone at some point to retrieve my number and give it to her. When I talked to Janet's sister on the phone, she had made a comment that my name kept popping up in the investigation, and that I need to call the sheriff so that they could "cross me off the list". This made sense to me, as in any investigation, law enforcement likes to take a look at any romantic interests. I know that the source of any mention of me, had to be her roommates, and I assumed that they went through Janet's phone to retrieve my number, with the intent to shake the family and the sheriff off their trail.

Janet's car, and credit card were found equal distances away from her home, in opposite directions. This led me to believe that whomever responsible both had knowledge of what her whereabouts were supposed to be, and also, theyre from the same area.

Lastly, at Parkwood Knoll (the apartments where Janet lived) it would be impossible for Janet to have been abducted en route to Stockton. From her apartment to the freeway, it is a straight shot. Even if she had stopped for gas or coffee before getting on the freeway, that area is far too populated at 9am for anyone to have abducted her. This means that somebody had to have abducted her at her parking space, or that the roommate was lying, because Janet was already dead. The easy guess was that the male roommate killed her. He is a felon, and when we met, it was not cordial. It was more like a "which of us is the alpha here" staredown. I don't know which of the two reported that they saw Janet leave at 9am. If it was the female, I expect her to be arrested soon as well, because that detail is a lie considering Janet never made it to work the day before.

It sounds cliche, but Janet didn't deserve this at all. No words can accurately measure how true that is. She was the purest soul I have ever met. I'm so sorry Janet. RIP

OH NO. That is what I was wondering when I read upthread that she was living with a couple.

My daughter had a very bad experience once, when she tried sharing an apartment with a couple, when she was 19. . The male kept being creepy and hitting on her, and it was very awkward. She ended up moving out before her lease was up, and it was a mess. But it was good that she left although we ended up paying the couple some of the money she owed because he was denying it and calling her a liar, and it wasn't worth it to try and fight with them, and I didn't want her to have bad credit for breaking the lease. But it was a bit of a nightmare.

Very plausible! [emoji22]

Lsyss song,

Wow just wow. My deepest condolences go out to you. Thank you for being here for Janet and for sharing your information with us. The deductions you made above are intelligent and clear. I can not imagine what all this has been like for you, surreal I imagine...not only losing someone you care for, but then having to be ruled out by LE. Just incredible. Your post is a memorable one out of all the thousands and thousands I've read and posted about here. Sending huge hugs and positive thoughts your way.

"Deputies said evidence points to one of Mejia’s roommates.

“It appeared that, that person probably had the opportunity and a lot of things were adding up against him.”

Deputies are not releasing his name, but said he’s a convicted felon and on probation. They said he was arrested Wednesday night for unlawful possession of a gun.

They’re now waiting to see if forensic evidence ties him to her murder."

While I find the level of detail the friend of the deceased is sharing interesting, I hope it will not compromise a conviction. I'd check in with LE before sharing so much detail on social media. Just my opinion and speculation, submitted respectfully.

Prayers to all the family and friends of this beautiful young woman.

So senseless, prayers for her family and friends.

A poster above said Janet's sister thought she just lost her credit card in the parking lot Monday and it wasn't related? This story said the sister was concerned because she did not show up at her home as scheduled or at work on Monday? Yet Janet was seen on Tuesday, heading out for a Dr. Appt?

My relative is LE (not in that area) and says that the media is notorious for screwing up facts in these cases even when LE hands them a press release.

I read who found Janet's body and the location and it makes me wonder.

The body of a woman, later identified as 28-year-old Janet Mejia, was found about 7 p.m. Thursday by homicide investigators just off the roadway in the area of Watt Avenue and Dyer Lane, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department news release.

She was found by homicide investigators in an area that is not far from homes but what looks to me to be nothing but empty fields.

I've lived in the Sacramento area my whole life and I've never had a reason to drive that far up Watt Avenue because there is nothing up there.

How did the homicide detectives find her? They must of had someone tell them to look in that area, Who would that be?

They are notorious for that, but in this case, Janet's family was told she was last seen on Tuesday which is why the credit card incident on Monday seemed to be a coincidence and unrelated. But we now know that she didn't arrive to work on Monday, which means it's likely the credit card was placed there after something bad happened, and the roommates story is very likely a big, bold lie.

Hopefully someone's phone pinged in that area, or GPS on someone's vehicle. Or perhaps a tip or confession.

The road she was found on, Dyers Lane, is notorious for murders and a dumping ground for bodies. Considered to be haunted by locals. Watt Ave is a nice backroad to West Roseville from Antelope/Elverta. I have passed by Dyers many times and it is right on the edge of town...never stopped though! It doesn't seem sinister in passing because of its proximity to town. All IMO.

Sacramento Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Roommate

Court records show that Vinson pleaded no contest to felony domestic violence in 2012 and again in 2013, when he was sentenced to two years in state prison. In July 2012, he was arrested for domestic violence after causing visible injuries by grabbing his victim around the neck and throwing the victim onto a bed. He allegedly punched and slapped the victim in the face and refused to let her leave the bedroom or call police.
