SAN DIEGO, CA (KGTV)- A father has been desperately searching for his son, who he hasn't heard from since last week and is now asking the public for help.

Jim Mills said his 26-year-old son Jared Stuart Mills has not been heard from or seen since Feb. 8. Jim Mills flew from Denver to San Diego on Monday to begin searching for him.

"It's unlike him, especially because he's technologically advanced," he said.

This is worrisome. Looks like Jared was supposed to return soon and it's been a week already. I wonder where he was going and where his car was found?

Am I reading this right, that LE refused to tell the Dad where his son's car was located?

It would be interesting to know what the text message said, that he sent his mother 2 hours after last being seen on video.

Very disappointing that there isn't more news on this young man.

His father said he went "That way" but which way was that way?

I lived in San Diego from 2007 to 2018, so I'm familiar with the area.

Anyone here have ideas as to why LE would keep from disclosing at least a general.area of where the car was found? This is the second recent case I'm following now where police either held out for a long time in even disclosing a car was found or wouldn't give location.

Integrity of the case must be the obvious reason but many many other investigations disclose that info. Only thing I can think of is perhaps where the car was found suggests he left voluntarily and doesn't want contacted (like at the airport/train station or bus station?)
Any other ideas?

It could be that LE thinks it's a possibility, based on several factors, that he might be missing voluntarily and as such won't release details as to certain elements of the case. Any adult can voluntarily absent themselves and become missing. There is no crime of being missing, and if a person is voluntarily missing, they are entitled to their privacy. Some of the factors that will influence the reporting officer's determination of whether the missing is voluntary. Some of those are (these are generic and NOT related to this particular case):

Have they failed to perform an important task? (i.e., pick-up children from babysitter, failed to show at work without cause when they are not normally absent)
Do they suffer from any mental or cognitive impairment? Have they been despondent or depressed
Do they have a history of being "missing"?
Are any of their personal belongings missing? (i.e., clothing or toiletries, wallet and prescriptions required daily if applicable are also a very important ones)
Have they recently suffered the loss of a loved one, or the end of a long term relationship? Is it near the anniversary date of the loss of a loved one?
Do they have unrestricted access to a vehicle? Is it miss as well?
Are they having relationship problems?
Are they having financial problems? Has there been unusual withdrawals from their bank account recently?
Are they having difficulties at work or school?
Did they fail to return from a recreational outing in a geographically defined wilderness area (hiking, camping, boating, etc.).

“Good news, our son Jared Mills has confirmed he is safe and not missing!!! We are relieved and thankful!!! Our first and foremost hope was that he would be found alive and unharmed. He contacted us and talked with law enforcement after seeing the search - thanks to the many people who so willingly jumped in to help! We don’t have any additional details at this time, due in part to adult privacy laws. Words cannot express the gratitude we have for the many people who took time to assist. Thank you!!!”
