Facinating case! I was glued to the continuous coverage on News10.net all afternoon.

I offer prayers for the victims as the family reunites. The woman who has been located is far removed from the little girl who was snatched 18 years ago. Her children have now been uprooted from life as they knew it (tragic though it was). While we are looking on & saying "whew, it's over", a long process of assimilation is just beginning. Suggesstion: can we, shouldn't we, have a thread of encouragement for this family (to be printed & delivered at some point)... like we did for the young man who was held captive? Who can do that? I wouldn't know where to place the topic... jury room or here?

When you zoom onto the house from the top you will see little camera icons appear along the streets. Double click on the one that is right in front of Garrido's neighbor's driveway (1544 Walnut). It will swoop down to street level and enter a bubble which allows you to view the house fronts from the perspective of a car driving down the street. You can use the <hand> to rotate around and view all angles -- a panorama view. You will see a rusty old van in the driveway. There is a driver in the driver's seat but you cannot be sure of that until you double click on the next camera (1556 Walnut) and then rotate back around to look at the driveway. You will see that the van is now pulled forward to the front of the driveway. As you click through each successive camera going south down Walnut Street then turning right on Bown Lane, you can look back and see that van from Garrido's driveway following you. It seems that when Google Earth sent its camera can through this neighborhood, Garrido (or someone from that household) happened to pull out and follow the van for a couple of blocks. When you get to the corner of Bown and Viera you get the last glimpse and can clearly see a man's arm in the driver's window. There may be a passenger but there are a lot of shadows in the van.

Sorry, Beyond Belief. I should add that you have to have the "Street View" layer checked in order to see all of this. :detective:

He sounds exactly like my mother-in-law who is a diagnosed Schizophrenic and Bi-Polar. (And is only in our lives on a very limited basis recently since she agreed to medication, and is staying on it). Especially his *zeal* and *enthusiasm*. (shudders)

What a lunatic! I'm even more disgusted after listening to that quack.:furious:

You are correct, we do need to find out the facts, but she had to have wondered where they got this girl???
With all due respect, how do we know that she knew anything? She could have a lot of physical ailments, mental ailments...dementia, Alzheimers.....lets wait and see before we rush to judgement of EVERYONE. Remember, even the perp in Austria had a wife who was clueless. She may very well be a victim of him as well...it sounds like he was excellent in having control over people.

Yeah--did you hear that he said that those young girls had slept with him every night since they were newborns?

And that it was after the second one was born that he decided to change his life around?

The thoughts of what probably happened to those little girls only compounds the disgust, hatred, and outright ANGER that I feel for what he did to Jaycee.
I cringed at hearing that. I am livid as I'm sure you all are. I feel like we really let the victims and their families down. I can't help thinking LE screwed them.

While officials said that they were shocked by the secret compound, neighbors said they had known that Mr. Garrido had structures behind his house. But they had no idea anyone was living there.
“I knew he was always strange,” said Diane Doty, whose back fence was adjacent to the compound. “But I never saw the girl.”
Another neighbor, Heather McQuaid-Glace, said that children had long known to avoid Mr. Garrido — his registration as a sex offender was online and known among parents — but that nothing had aroused suspicion that a crime might be ongoing.
“We never heard screaming; we never heard anyone crying for help,” Ms. McQuaid-Glace said.
On Thursday, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies were combing the compound.
In one tent, a bouquet of yellow flowers was visible through a window. In front of another, a pair of children’s pink pajama bottoms had been removed and laid out by agents, near an evidence tag. Several ragged lawn chairs were laid about, as was a couch, a well-used barbecue, and several parched garden plants. On one shed, a heart-shape wall hanging was painted with the word “spring.”
Mr. Kollar said that the car believed to have been used in the kidnapping had also been found in the secret backyard area, which he said was strategically arranged “to isolate the victims” and not visible from the street.
Ms. Doty’s 9-year-old granddaughter, Megan, said that she had always found the area behind the fence “creepy,” but that she did not feel that way Thursday. “Finally,” Megan said, “I’m not scared anymore.” more at link: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/28/us/28abduct.html?hp

It is interesting that Tara Cossey is being aligned with the others; she was taken from San Pedro, which is in S. California, near Long Beach.

I really hope that they look into other disapearances of girls in the Antioch area.

http://www.angelfire.com/mi3/mpccn/swartzgarcia.html

There have been quite a few that have disapeared under simular circumstances like Jaycee.

From Amber Swartz-Garcia's details of disapearance;

A day after Amber disappeared, a witness reported having seen someone matching her description at Alvarado Park sometime between 4:45 and 5:00 p.m. on June 3. The girl was being roughly handled by an adult white man and was thrown into a car by him at the park entrance. The witness described the girl's assailant was being about forty years old, 5'7, and 160 pounds. He was driving an older model four-door General Motors car, full-sized, and tan in color. Authorities have never been unable to identify the man and are not sure if the girl who was seen was in fact Amber.

Can we set up a time line on this guy? It would be interesting to see when he if he was out of the slammer and on the streets at the time Amber disapeared as well as the other girls listed.
Michaela Garecht, Ilene Misheloff, Tara Cossey and Amanda Campbell.

Too bad when the neighbors weren't getting anywhere with local LE two years ago they didn't call some county board and go that route for all the unauthorized structures and tarps out back. Seriously, haven't we all heard about the family cited for having a fence six inches in the wrong direction? I wonder how long Google Earth has had that image? If it could have been used to spur an investigation. Just thinking "outloud" since we know there are more Jaycee's out there...and neighbors whose suspicions are horribly right.

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - The world reacted with joy when news that Jaycee Lee Dugard, who had been kidnapped and held captive for 18 years, surfaced at a police station in Northern California. But many are wondering how Dugard is doing after fathering two of her captor's children and being held in isolation in a backyard shed for so long.
Those who have been through similar circumstances are offering words of advice to Dugard and her family. Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped from her bedroom in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2002 at the age of 14, was found alive nine months later in a suburb near her home. She told CNN's Campbell Brown that Dugard should focus on reconnecting with her family and remembering the things that she used to like to do. read more: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/news/dpgo_jaycee_lee_dugard_healing_lwf_082709_3206704

Aguinaga said Garrido was suspected of bilking an elderly neighbor out of his life savings. A complaint was lodged on the man's behalf when he moved to Friendship Residential Care in Antioch, Aguinaga said.
The elder care home relayed allegations that from late 2007 to March 2008, Garrido swindled Dilbert "Jack" Medieros, now 79, of nearly $18,000. In the end, prosecutors cited insufficient evidence in declining to file charges this past April.
Garrido explained to police that Medieros had given him money to help start a church. He also told investigators that he had known Medieros for years and took him places such as the zoo.
"He said Jack never wanted him to pay him back," Aguinaga said. "He said he did not ask for the money. Jack gave it to him anyway."

He took advantage of older folks, as well.

I'm just getting back here after watching the press conference. I was absolutely blown away by the details of Jaycee's captivity! I can't imagine how horrible it was for Jaycee, and later her two children. I'm somewhat familiar with that area and know people who live not too far away. It gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I'm sure those sheds weren't confortable for most of the year. I can't imagine a young girl (14 at the time) giving birth and caring for a newborn in those conditions. It's difficult to express how awful it was to hear those details........I wasn't expecting it.

I'm sure Jaycee's mother and family will do everything possible to help Jaycee and her two daughters, but it's going to take a lifetime to recover, if ever. With Jaycee's mother and step-father currently being separated, I hope they will come together for a common goal.......Jaycee and the two girls are going to need as much of a caring family life as is possible. One thing I'm glad to hear......Jaycee's mother lives more than 400 miles away from Antioch. It will be better to be far away from where she was held captive for so long.

As for the two perps..............I can't help but think a repeat offender will get the maximum. :furious:

But one thing really bothers me and it's been mentioned on this thread, and that's the absence of other children. With Jaycee's youngest being 11-years-old, I would think that without birth control a 29-year-old would have had more children in the past 11 years. Also, I have no doubt that at least one, if not both, of those two children have already been molested by the perp. :furious:

If she even knew at all. Not all older people are sharp. For all we know, she could have been in a medication haze, etc. etc. Facts come first always....little is known right now about her.

Or he could have been terrorizing her into silence too...

O.M.G. Looks like yet another case of ball dropping. Dammit!!! When will LE take serious, long-term notice of these evil freaks? THEY CANNOT BE FIXED! If you let them out, they will re-offend. Why, oh why, is that so difficult to grasp?
