20 years later, friend continues mission to find missing woman

According to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police records, Moore reportedly went missing on April 9, 1992 during a trip to Laughlin, Nev. with her then-fiance Al Henderson, though some believe she never made it their destination.

“I think that there is evidence that she never showed up to Laughlin with him,” said Deputy District Attorney John Thomas, assigned to the sheriff’s Cold Case Detail. While the team has not picked up the case, Thomas said investigators at the time of her disappearance collected two binders worth of evidence and information on the case.

Henderson — who was the main suspect in her disappearance — died in 2001.

I don't see Jean profiled on any missing persons databases (I may have missed them though, please add if you see any).

She was profiled on unsolved mysteries in the 1990's and it looks like that episode has rerun from boards that discuss that show.

Jean's been missing 20 years. Come home soon.

Unsolved Mysteries aired this case today. I did some googling and the case is still unsolved. I'm sure she must be dead by now, so I suggest checking the Namus database to see if she matches any unidentified bodies.

I think this case deserves a bump... although sadly it would appear that it’s one destined to remain cold unless someone comes forward or she is located.

Just based on available info online my hypothesis/opinion/speculation is that something happened between the couple and either Al took matters into his own hands or hired someone who did. Thinking about a couple together 20 years who finally decide tie the knot, what triggered that? Perhaps Jean applied pressure to seal the deal and Al experienced cold feet and felt his best option was to eliminate Jean altogether. Not enough has been revealed about this and I think that would help solve the motive “if” he was responsible.

Als’s explanation of the events between April 6-9 1992 do not seem plausible to me. Here’s why:

1. Obviously casino video footage did not corroborate his story, and that bothers me. I found it unbelievable that he was going to taxi back to their hotel while leaving his car at the casino - sorry it just makes no sense.
2. That her purse and jewelry were left at hotel versus being taken to the casino that day - you’d think a purse might be helpful if her intention was to play the slots one more time.
3. Al’s telephone log alibi almost seems too perfect, as if created to throw cover.
4. Immediately throwing a $25K reward looks like a gallant thing to do, but “if” offered by the perp who had reason to think it was a safe bet because he knew she’d never be located, it obviously looks overplayed in my opinion.
5. I was surprised that there weren’t more corroborating facts identifying the couple’s activities during this trip - just seems suspicious. Was there even proof she’d won $600 at the casino?

In Al’s defense it would have made likely more sense to stage her disappearance at the hotel they were staying at (or some other location) versus a casino where video recordings were known to exist even in the 90’s. That aspect of this (as well as his demeanor on the UM program), lends credence that maybe he wasn’t involved. Perhaps he wasn’t aware that video evidence would contradict his story until it was too late - who really knows?

Here’s the current Charley Project link.

The first link is dead, and I don’t know what was said on the videos about the case. But, wouldn’t leaving your car at the casino and taking a taxi back to the hotel make perfect sense if you’d been drinking?

RE: using taxi vs your own car after drinking, I totally agree; however in this case I haven’t seen anything that suggested the reason for the car situation was drinking - just doesn’t make sense especially since it’s only about an 11 minute drive between locations; a more plausible plan would have been for Al to drop off Jean at the casino and then return for her at a pre-arranged time later. Just my opinion of course...

20 years later, friend continues mission to find missing woman
older article from 2012 Jack Fales a good friend of Jean's spoke about being close to finding out what happened to Jean.
While Fales believes he may be close to finding out what actually happened to his friend, he said he’s not ready to release any information until he’s sure.
There never was a follow-up from Jack and what information he may have learned. Jack passed away in 2018.
Here is another write-up about Jean Marie Moore. It says her children disliked Al and were skeptical of Al's account of Jean's disappearance.

Details of Disappearance

Moore was last seen in San Bernardino County, California on April 9, 1992. Her longtime companion and fiance, Al Henderson, said they went to the casinos in Laughlin, Nevada that night.

According to Henderson, they had been in Laughlin for three days and had planned to leave on April 9, but the day before stated Moore had won $600 at a slot machine in the Flamingo Hilton casino, and she wanted to try her luck again at the same machine, so they extended their stay.

Henderson preferred to gamble at the Colorado Belle nearby, where he had complimentary rooms and meals. After leaving his 1987 Cadillac in valet parking, he went into the Hilton to try to find Moore, but couldn't locate her. He went to the Colorado Belle and played blackjack for awhile, then went to the Hilton to look for Moore again and still couldn't find her.

She has never been heard from again. Moore's image wasn't seen on the Hilton casino's surveillance videotapes on April 9, however, and the tapes showed Henderson alone in the valet parking area.

Furthermore, a witness saw both Moore and Henderson were seen at a gas station in Apple Valley, California, Moore's hometown, at 5:45 p.m. on April 8, the day she is supposed to have won $600 at the Flamingo Hilton in Laughlin. Moore told the witness she and Henderson were going to Laughlin, which is 150 miles from Apple Valley.

Records at the Colorado Belle show Henderson checked in to the hotel at 1:00 p.m. on April 6, three days before Moore's disappearance, and booked rooms for the next three nights, with a departure on April 9. Hotel records show two meals were delivered to Henderson's room on April 6, one on April 7, one on April 8, and none on April 9. Investigators are not sure Moore ever arrived in Laughlin, and think she may have met with foul play in either California or Nevada.

After Moore's disappearance, tissues that appeared to be bloodstained were found on the floor in Henderson's motor home. He has long been considered a suspect in Moore's disappearance, but he died in 2001 without having ever been charged in her case. A photo of him is posted with this case summary.

Moore is Apple Valley's former honorary mayor. Las Vegas, Nevada police are investigating her case, which remains unsolved.

Any idea if the bloody tissues found in the motor home were tested for blood type? I'd be curious to know if they could date how long they'd been there. I've read through this case so many times and still cannot figure out the timeline.

Here is a little more info from newspaper clippings at the time. Sorry I couldn't get the other pages, maybe someone with a newspapers account can attach the rest
