Can make a big difference in factoring in where she might have had the ability to go physically and where her mind may have taken her if she had memory or behavior challenges but was physically quite fit for her age.

BONNY DOON, Calif. —
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said a body was found during the search for missing at-risk hiker Jeanne Burke, who was last seen on Nov. 18, 2025.

On Sunday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said a body was found in a “densely wooded area within the identified search zone.”

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has not yet determined the identity of the person found. More information will be released when available.

A body that was recovered in the Santa Cruz Mountains last month was confirmed to be of an elderly woman who went missing in November 2025, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday.

The body of 73-year-old Jeanne Burke was found in a densely wooded area of Smith Grade and Moore Ranch Road on January 18 amid continued search efforts for the missing woman. Burke was last seen alive on Nov. 18, 2025, near Moore Ranch Road.
