GUILTY CA - Jessica Funk-Haslam, 13, found murdered, Rosemont, 6 March 2012

  • #221
She was sexually abused a year ago and the offender was sentenced to prison. So that had to be very tough on her. And now she is 13, a rough age for a sexual abuse survivor. So many conflicting feelings and emotions for her to go through. I acted out when I was that age because of the abuse i had suffered earlier. I was very confused about boys and what they wanted and what my own boundaries should be.

--very sorry to hear that you also suffered sexual abuse 'katy'.

--jessica would have been about 8 or 9 at the time, her mom's former b/f was sentenced to 10 years ( for lewdness w/ a child under the age of 14 ) in 2008 when they were living in nevada.

That was about the age I was when my uncle was abusing me. And then when I hit puberty in middle school I was so very mixed up. I think she may have been feeling the same confusing feelings that I was. And the same anger.

If the kids knew who was in the park I think they would have spilled it by now.

I dunno... with a group of girls there ALWAYS seems to be a snitch. The one girl that is trying to be someone she's not. IMO guys that age hold stuff closer to the vest. If we were talking about 18 yr old girls I would not feel the same. But early teens? Run their mouths... And at the very least something of that magnitude would cause strife within the "group". Someone is scared they are next. More unrest will ensue... someone will blow up, report being threatened... MAYBE I am outta the loop but in my experience the gossip gene will persevere!

I sure hope so..and sooner than later!

Someone running away from crime scene is not going to run one way then run back.

Sure they could. What if they were getting rid of something in someone's trash can in the opposite direction, then ran back the other way, but not necessarily to the park but ran home that way? What if they were leaving and realized they forgot something? What if they were leaving and were just super paranoid and went back to check something for some reason?

If the cops place her time of death between 8pm and 9pm, I wonder about the witnesses that claim (2 separate ones, I believe) that they heard a man and a girl talking after 9pm and someone who claims to have seen persons with a flashlight between 11pm and 1230am, presumably sitting on bleachers in the park, and a vehicle parked in the park lot. That means that a) the witnesses are incorrect b) the cops are incorrect about time of death c) persons unrelated to the murder were there after she was murdered or d) the perp or perps came BACK to the scene, perhaps to retrieve a weapon or what have you. Based on the witness accounts, I would have thought her death was after the 8pm to 9pm window.

Another thought of mine (pure speculation) is that someone went to the park that knew Jessica may be there to bring her home, especially if she had a history of hanging out there. She refused to go with them (back home or whatever) and things got ugly.

MonkeyMann - KCRA3 claimed that Sac Sherriffs do in fact have surveillance of her on RT to Watt from Butterfield, then took a bus to somewhere near Einstein and was seen on surveillance cameras with "students" at Einstein at 6:30pm.

BBM

Wasn't mom out with a flashlight during those hours?

Those questions don't really make sense in term of timeline, so I am not sure if there is any accurate information there at all.

Yeah...I went ahead and removed the info. Some of the questions relating to sexual activity confirmed that she (if it is her) would have been sexually active at a very young age, etc. Anywhoo...like you said, no way to know if it's her for sure, other than that handle comes up in other questionable places as well.

Detectives also recovered surveillance video from Albert Einstein Middle School. According to Turnbull, five men -- who appear to be teenagers to early adults -- were seen on the video entering the park between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Detectives are trying to identify the men, who they believe may have seen Jessica at the park.

~jmo - Detectives are trying to identify them to question them about who they SAW Jessica with... at this late date if they thought these boys were responsible for killing her they would release the tape for the public to ID them. I just don't think they are suspects -just witnesses
IMO

I don't believe police know who the suspects are.

Your comments would sound somewhat believable if we or the LE didnt know the EXACT area the video was recorded from, but we do, so those arent even an option with this case.

Her injuries do not seem to coincide with what five 16 to 22 yr old males would do in killing a 13 yr old girl. I really believe there would be some sexual abuse evident and more trauma than what was described. imo

An immature/inexperienced perp may act randomly, so I agree.

Not every victim killed by males is sexually abused. I am not going to rule out males as suspects because there was no sexual abuse (apparently).

I agree that not all male killers abuse their victims sexually. But what are the odds that out of FIVE young males , NONE of them are going to act out sexually while killing a young pretty girl?

Really? I'm glad you are 100% about it. Obviously the police are not if they released the video and wanted to speak to the person. Could be something, may not be. I'm fairly certain if police knew it was a person on a skateboard who had nothing to do with her disappearance they wouldn't have released the video. Surely they thought it could be something which is why it was released. Maybe nothing has come of it, I hope they've gotten some answers regardless.

I was wondering if they could be connected.
