GUILTY CA - Jessica Funk-Haslam, 13, found murdered, Rosemont, 6 March 2012

It was very unsettling how her mother spoke about the sexual abuse. I can only imagine if you're daughter was murdered the prior abuse she suffered would also cause deep distress, thinking of her short life marred like that and then ending violently. Not done and dusted and let's not focus on that, she's ok. She's very much NOT OK, she has been murdered.

Poor kid :(

Here's a thought. It looks like a "young girls" killing because it takes strength etc, who else might not have had the strength to kill immediately and would have had to commit several acts in order to "finish" the job?

I too , think that the video is a kid on a skateboard. Totally unrelated most likely.

I am absolutely SHOCKED that no one is talking! One or more of her school mates know something.

She was sexually abused a year ago and the offender was sentenced to prison. So that had to be very tough on her. And now she is 13, a rough age for a sexual abuse survivor. So many conflicting feelings and emotions for her to go through. I acted out when I was that age because of the abuse i had suffered earlier. I was very confused about boys and what they wanted and what my own boundaries should be.

Thanks, when I read your post I went back and read that part. The picture of her is one of those pics that has a visceral impact. When you see a young girl with that much energy and presence, you have to mourn the lost potential. Sad story.

Im not really sure what happens to one's thinking when they decide and believe it is okay to harm and abuse another individual against their will for their own sexual satisfaction, but its so wrong in so many different ways, it makes me sick.:banghead::banghead::banghead:
To you katydid23, I am truly sorry you had to endure the wrath of one of these people I described above. Just actually reading your post made me mad, as nobody deserves that to happen. I bet it has helped to be able to open up as you did here and talk about it. Hope you are well from it all.
:~)
Thanks for the view point of a different angle!!:toastred:

THank you. I am about to turn 60 and have had a very wonderful, fun filled, good life. I am experiencing 'empty nest' syndrome since my youngest moved out recently though. My DH and I need to think of other things to talk about now. lol

But yes, I still remember how chaotic and confusing puberty was for me. MY uncle had been abusing me for a few years previously. So when most 13 yr olds would be looking forward to first holding hands, or their first innocent kiss, I was WAY BEYOND that already. It made things very confusing. And of course, I was looking for 'love'---and our abusers always use that as their excuses for their abuse of us. So it gets convoluted.

So this poor sweet 13 yr old was possibly very confused too. It might have been too easy for an older perp to lure her out at night. A girl who had never been abused might never have taken them up on that offer of meeting that night. But she probably felt fearless. I used to feel fearless as well at that age. I was 'precocious'---and I flirted with older guys.

I think her mother is in denial over it like a lot of women (considering it was her boyfriend who abused her daughter).

I can't remember for sure but wasn't her mother the one who went to police about it? as soon as she found out?

Hi, guys! It's been quiet 'round here, but I am hopeful that they may have something (something, as in DNA) based on this posting today from Rosemont Patch, with regard to any updates about the case: In part,:

"Everyone that Jessica knew or hung out with is potentially a suspect(s)," (Dep) Ramos said in an email. "We are awaiting results from forensic analysis of items, but have nothing new to report in the meantime."

http://rosemont.patch.com/articles/anything-new-in-jessica-s-investigation-not-yet

It may be nothing, but I like the term 'forensic analysis'! Also, I haven't been scouring articles lately, but I haven't heard word about the "mysterious skateboarder/runner/limper/walker/jogger" being ID'd. Kinda wish we had more info from the Sheriff's Dept, but again, hopefully they know more than they are letting on.

That is promising news to hear, Traceyrita.

I do think they are keeping things close to their vest.
