Also He never told LE that he was ‘permitted’ to write his own cheques when they first interviewed him. He Said Joey had given him the cheque he wrote on 5th and backdated to 4th when they met at Chic FA. BINGO!
So when exactly did he come up with this story that he had permission to write himself checks?

I listened again to the Union Bank lady, and Malone was insinuating that Joey's signature varied on other legitimate checks, so the variance on that forged check isn't that unusual.

I though the defense was going with "he had permission" Wht not say, "yeah, the signature is different because my client signed it due to the new agreement".

Yes I will watch it again, I don't recall hearing the IP addresses.
Another poster says that Intuit did not retain IP addresses but I dont know this for certain. Maybe in the testimony or warrants?

Lest we forget that Chase tried to delete the QB acct under the guise of being JM on his own cell phone.

True, but how was it established that the check to Chase dated 5th was printed in the Fallbrook house?
They testified as to which checks were entered, printed and deleted from a McStay computer, which they had in their posession to forensically analyze. I don’t think the one on the 5th was done from a McStay computer. I could be wrong though.

In terms of the profile of the offender, I think it is quite interesting the anger revealed at the crime scene. But this isn't a crime targeted at a single female or younger victim with typical sexual motive

I am interested to look into other cases of murder between business partners/friends?

Not sure how to find them though.
But he never tried to call Joseph. They normally communicated daily until after the 4th. Didnt he make just one call to JM?
I don't think LE got his phone till at least 19th Feb so it is likely that any voicemails would have been been automatically deleted. "Any voicemail that is not listened to is deleted in 14 days"

Even if it was, do you think this evidence can be relied upon, given that so many people had access to the house before the computers were collected?

Really? I don't recall hearing during the voicemail testimony the VM are deleted after 14 days. Did they testify to that? My phone doesn't delete after 14 days.

MrJitty, I enjoy your posts and the way in which your mind works, you seem very intelligent. My worry is though, that the jury may not have the smarts that you have to piece this all together. Will they know that he must testify to this? I hope and pray that the circumstantial evidence is enough and that Merrit testifies. It will be interesting to see what the defence comes up with.
I feel the prosecution is not making their points obvious enough. Add the time problem this trial is experiencing and I don’t believe anyone, even those with a triple digit IQ, can keep track of the evidence against Merritt. It is presented as innuendo to begin with and then there are days and days before it is touched on again. The presentation is not smooth and cohesive at all. I have never felt this unorganized and scattered with evidence in any of the dozens of trials I have watched from beginning to end. It concerns me greatly.

I think your argument might be valid if it was printed from a McStay computer. If it wasn’t, then it could be anyone on earth who had the QB login. They’ve pretty much proven who else on earth had the QB login, other than Joseph.

They were utilizing PayPal. Why not use PayPal to save drive time, etc?
I have actually wondered whether Chase was all that computer savvy being of my generation 60+ lol . . . Paypal might be a bit of a stretch for a few vendors.

No I googled it & got an answer dated 2011 . . .

That is the job of the state in closing. To explain how it all fits together.

I do agree there is a risk that this case lacks a smoking gun and the defence are of course very focussed on throwing mud at the wall

But he was savvy enough to get into QB and print Checks? And savvy enough to try and delete the QB so he can reinstall and start over? Yeah, not buying it.

IMO the story exists 99% on Websleuths and 1% in the trial

True. But we have the phone records that differentiate between calls and voicemails. Chase made many calls to JM prior to Thursday afternoon. All communications pretty much ceased after that. Merritt did say during the CNN interview that he did leave Joseph voice mails but this proved to be untrue.

Couldn't it be from someone that shook hands with the killer? If it could work that way in the Trooper it could work the same way in the graves, right?

Actually, according to the State criminologist that testified, it's more likely that it was transfer from someone working on the scene after the bodies were unearthed, because he doesn't believe DNA would survive that long. Although, if you accept that from him, then you also have to accept what he said about secondary transfer when explaining the DNA in the truck. We know very little about the DNA that the defense experts were able to extract, so I will wait or that testimony, quantities, etc. all play a part in DNA and asking general questions and getting general answers is good, but knowing the facts is better :)

Evidence that he had no boundaries?

Look up his numerous business complaints in RIPOFF.com-----many many vociferous complaints of fraud, thievery, deceit, etc. That indicates a lack of boundaries when someone purposely defrauds a client, keeping their down payment and then ghosting them.

I believe his first offense as an adult, burglarizing a HOME, someone's personal domicile, is evidence that that he had a lack boundaries. His repeated arrests indicates "no boundaries". His willingness to steal from both individuals and companies, shows lack of boundaries.
Let's talk about his lack of boundaries with the various financial institutes he banked with. Does someone with boundaries repeatedly rack up the amount of NSF charges and overdrafts as he did? Does he respect the boundaries set by those banks? I haven't had an NSF or overdraft fee in over 35 years.
Driving with a revoked license..........
Probation/parole violations, warrants, jail, prison........
Cm is NOT a person who respects the boundaries of social or legal "norms".
CM can't even respect the boundaries of the jail he currently resides in, ie., circumventing the visitation regulations.

You don't find it suspicious that this 'new arrangement' happened to coincide with the family vanishing into thin air?
Not direct at you katy.... but just wondering...

Does anyone know when Joey's fiscal year end was for his business?
