A daughter, who is possibly reading how strangers trash her father and the relationship between her and her father, and call him the worst to ever walk the earth, with no basis, is truly an innocent victim.
That is to be expected under the circumstances seeing as her so called loving father is on trial for murdering a whole family. Perhaps if it is too upsetting for her she shouldn't read the public's commentary about the crimes he stands accused of. Because it happens in every murder case i have ever followed with the commentary on social media etc.

I wonder if Merritt has ever been the target of a CPS (Child Protection Services) investigation? I wish those records were made public.
I agree that it is a shame this information is not made public record. Sex offenders must register and I feel like child abusers should be made to register as well. I am in no way accusing CM of child abuse as I know he has never been charged with that but simply stating that a registry of people convicted of child abuse or harm with open records would benefit everyone. IMO

It might not benefit the victims, however.

I don't think anyone has called him the worst to walk the earth.

But here is what we do know:
He was absent from Taylor's life for several years when she was a baby.
He spent time in prison and is a two timed felon.
CJ said he doesn't care about anyone, including his family.
He withdrew an exorbitant amount of cash in casinos.
CJ opted to separate finances due to poor financial habits.
He failed to pay his taxes ( yes, that is a big deal)
His employment history is very questionable (Again being charitable)
Another man (Joey) had to pay his rent on numerous occasions.

I haven't heard anyone calling him the worst to walk the face of the earth, but I like your description. He is accused of quadruple murder, two of the victims being toddlers. But we already know CM can easily detach from toddlers. He detached from Taylor.

What exactly are his redeeming qualities?

JMO, MOO, IMO, etc etc

I've never understood why people who are related to criminals run to social media, blogs, etc. to read what's being said about the criminal. It has to be painful and frustrating. I think I would avoid the comments if I were in that situation.

I don't understand it either. Social media can be really full on from what i read about it, especially on very emotional circumstances surrounding murder victims. And not a good place to go if one wants to avoid such emotionally charged media outlets against the accused.

Per Perlin, the DNA from the gravesite on various objects was all degraded (and he cannot say how old or degraded,) but doesn't match any of the reference samples. Then who's to say that the DNA wasn't already in the desert soil when the family was buried?

Ancient DNA - Wikipedia
Genetic material has been recovered from archaeological and historical skeletal material, mummified tissues, archival collections of non-frozen medical specimens, preserved plant remains, ice and permafrost cores as well as marine and lake sediments.

Well it is just as likely as the Frankenstein DNA the defense is trying to present.

and it's a wrap...the Defense didn't have another witness ready after Perlin so court was dismissed til next week.

RSBM

Do you have a link for this?

Most common law countries have the rule against so called similar fact evidence, but allow it to be introduced under various exceptions. I had not heard that Canada had a complete ban. See for example

Similar fact evidence - Wikipedia

The rules to guard against propensity reasoning are pretty strong - to avoid the dangers of the jury thinking "this is the kind of guy who would do a murder"

But past criminal offending can be highly relevant in certain situations.
You're right, it's more complicated. What I've seen in the serious cases I've followed, is the defence makes a "Corbett application" and the judge grants it. This is what bans the criminal record from being known to the jury. It's the result of past appeals against convictions, based on the Cdn Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Perlin's DNA results are really hard to fathom in my opinion. Summer's DNA was not on her bra - either cup - inside or out - yet he found 2, 3 & even 4 possible contributors of DNA there that doesn't match anyone.

I can sort of accept that there might be foreign DNA on the 2 white electrical cords and the 1 red tie-down strap. As the Prosecution noted, those are items that are generally used by multiple people. We don't know where the cords or strap originated from - it could have been a metal shop, or construction site, or Merritt's toolbox, or the McStay garage. We just don't know.

That fact is no proof that they were abused by their fathers.

Who on earth would claim that the fact that a woman loves her father is proof that she had been abused???? No idea what you're talking about here.

You keep pointing out that Taylor seemed to love her father. Apparently, that statement is apropo of nothing. It stands alone, with meaning or context. Really? It seems to me the reason you state it is to imply that that fact must speak toward his innocence. If not that, what?

In reply, I asserted that the two are not necessarily connected (and certainly not "proof"!) Plenty of women love their abusive fathers, just as plenty of women love their abusive husbands. In fact, it's been pointed out several times here that in abusive relationships, the abuser plays on and manipulates the love of said woman. People -women, men, and children, often stay in abusive relationships and stand by their abusers because they love them.

Ok...on a different note. According to Patrick McStay's book the text Summer sent to Joey on 2/4 was actually sent at 5:05 pm. Joey doesn't get it until 5:47. Maybe his phone died and he was already home at 5:47 and recharging it. That would explain the fact JM didn't respond to SM's text.

Also, I listened again to the testimony from the T-Mobile guy Michael Bolsillo (day 14 part 4), apparently JM's phone accessed the internet 8:27 pm 2/4.

So we have the truck being moved at 7:47 pm
QB accessed from JM's computer at 8:01 pm (I wish we knew the site)
Last internet access from JM's cell at 8:27 pm
Last call from JM's phone (to CM) at 8:28 pm

Then CM's cell pinging in Mira Loma at 9:32 pm (which is right on time if he left Fallbrook at around 8:30 pm).

What made him move the truck and then go back in the house?

BBM, All i can think is that in his hurry to get out of there he forgot something, or needed to do something else in the house quickly?
And got his vehicle away from the house some for his own known reasons?

I was just going to post the same thing, forgot something or wanted to double check he didn't leave something behind and while in there wrote himself a check, then realized the folly of it.

I couldn't make it up. IIRC it was oceanblueeyes. A few weeks ago.

We call this "the obligatory return" when we come back for some forgotten item.

What if he didn't leave the house when the truck left at 7:47 pm. Perhaps SM left without Joey. jmo

Has anyone heard anything about the motion to quash subpoenas hearing this morning?

Following someone's argument. I couldn't make it up.
