Do you think he's guilty?

Welcome! I would say that a majority of the people here think that he’s guilty. A passionate minority thinks that he’s innocent. There’s a few cool skeptics around, too. Read a little while, and you’ll see who is who.

You’ll fit in, whatever you believe, as long as you don’t fly off the handle and start calling people names. I doubt that’ll be a problem. ;)

So—what DO you think? Personally, I think he’s guilty—not sure what the jury will decide, though.

If Chase is found not guilty, can he or his family members have a case against libel, rumor spreading and character defamation against him or his family members?

I’m not a lawyer, but I think they’d be unwise to try it.

Not Guilty means: beyond a reasonable doubt.

The civil court judges ‘by a preponderance of the evidence.’ So, he’d risk being found guilty in civil court—which would be embarrassing. (In civil court, OJ Simpson was found guilty of the wrongful death of two people, even though he’d been found not guilty in the criminal case.)

@gitana1 Since you ARE a lawyer, would you be willing to weigh in on the wisdom of Chase sueing for defamation of character, if the jury finds him Not Guilty? (Not sure who he’d be sueing.)

But perhaps McGee realized he couldn't continue.
I don't think so, he was upright and walking and it didn't look to me like he'd sent out any distress signals to Maline. But maybe it was on a sticky.

Hello fellow WS members this is my first post I’ve been following the trial at the L&C website and someone posted a comment regarding WS so I figured I’d check it out. What is the consensus here? Has the state proved its case against Chase?
Guilty, hands down.

I don't know it could be he's guilty but it seems the state is trying to hide something as demonstrated by the witness that just testified. What are they trying to hide?

I don't know who he would sue either. He can't sue the state so I guess he'd have to try and go after all the people who have uttered a negative word about him. :D

There's a poll somewhere on WS (that I don't know how to find) and the results show the majority of the people think Merritt is guilty.

Thank You :)

It being cut is interesting as if Chase is going to rape her why wouldn’t you rip it off?. Taking the time to cut it off seems weird to me.

Maybe he was taunting her? I have wondering if he brought a gun with him, but seeing as that would make an unmistakable noise, a knife might be a better option.

Hmmm, class action lawsuits are where a lot of people sue someone/something. What do you call it when one person sues a whole lot of people? Is there a word for the concept? :D

ETA: There's the poll. Thank you Tortoise. :)
No that's one I did today about the location of the murders.

This is the guilty/not guilty poll -

Is it anonymous?

I haven’t had time to listen to the trial. I assume that you mean that the state is objecting to questions? Are their objections being sustained? If so, it’s not a case of ‘trying to hide something,’ —it’s just a case of the defense asking questions that they’re not legally entitled to ask.
