Has anyone read Patrick McStay's book about this case?

I have not. I have not read any books about this case. Have you read it? Possibly after the trial I will read Patrick's :)

I bought two copies to help him get to trial. I read it so long ago that I've forgotten a lot of it. What I love most about Patrick's interviews and his book is when he tells personal stories about the family. It's very endearing.

No, I just found out he even wrote a book. I may buy it to hear what he has to say.

And I think it's helping him get to trial. I do wonder why there isn't some type of victim's fund to make certain that immediate family can be present for the full trial. Especially in a case that involves murder.

I remember this case from local news. At the time, I literally lived less than 20 miles from the MS family.

In fact, my first born was born in Fallbrook.

Especially on a nationwide case like this.

Grief is devastating. Profound grief can alter a person irrevocably.

Yes, grief is certainly devastating. Agree. <modsnipped comments on law and crime chat> I don’t have much time to follow this case. And with all the delays and dark days in the courtroom in addition to the problems with the stream I pretty much gave up. I thank all here for all the updates and discussion related to the trial.

I totally understand this. It was a huge mistake. But consider the circumstances. Who would ever dream that this family was brutally murdered ? I think Susan even stated that all along she thought/hoped they could still be alive. That she fell to her knees in disbelief when she learned they had been found in the desert.

And Susan’s friend, James Spring, led the extended family to believe the family was alive in Mexico. No wonder they had hope. Dugal said Spring was a fraud.

I'm aware of these. What do they have to do with Joseph McStay?

I believe Katy put up the post showing many gambling addicts have committed murder, because another poster said being addicted to gambling, doesnt make them into being a murderer.

I see many cases on the crime channels where the suspects were gambling addicts, and being one was part of the motive for them carrying out their murders.

Just yesterday I saw one, about this same kind of murderer. The murderer went to the victim wanting a 250K loan in order to pay his gambling debts.

The victim was known to be his very best friend. The victim refused to loan him the money, knowing he would just go on to rack up more gambling debts, so when the best friend refused, the suspect killed him.

He then stole the man's coin collection, and sold them as if they were his.

So he received cash for the stolen property after he had murdered his best friend.

Once getting money from the stolen property belonging to the man he had just murdered....he then went on to spend it on gambling at the casinos.

Imo

The BTK Killer, who was an older gentleman, ALSO killed a family of 4 with 2 kids. So, a single person can kill a family w/o any help. Just sayin.

Yes. How disheartening? He seemed so legit at the time. This family was used and abused by so many people! IMO. Only because they opened their hearts and thoughts to the cyberworld. So wrong,

What documentary?

I wonder if this is the one that was being talked about the other day... I can't recall the name now LOL @Mica might? He asked and I believe was allowed to film the prelim and other hearings. Apparently is also filming the whole trial.

So if it's a triggering event, and it's the reason why Chase should recall what he did that night, why can't the same be said for his family?

Chase and Joey talked multiple times a day, every day. They worked together on big projects, day after day and had to coordinate many things.

Joey and his mother rarely spoke more than once every week or 2 , it seems. Not all that unusual with busy families.
Joey spoke to his father frequently, but his father lived out of state. He wouldn't have the same knowledge that Chase would about what was the last day that Joey was in communication mode.

What I found most interesting was the det4ctive saying that Chase had a very clear, accurate memory of everything up until 5 pm on that day. Then his mind goes blank in terms of where he was and what he was doing.

I don’t know. Supposedly one being made to pay the costs for the defense team. At least that’s what was said in the chat that day. It was all news to me.

I posted the name of a documentary company the other day that I found on the court portal.

I thought the state was paying for his defense? I recall reading an article that said because of the State wants the death penalty, that it actually worked in his favour because then he got unlimited resources for experts, defense, etc.

I think the company name was TSG. I can't recall the guys name though that was also attached to it as well.

ETA: found it.
