No way. We have all the evidence we need. The jurors have been taking notes and let us pray there are no attention seeking ding dongs to disrupt the eventual deliberations.

Its kind of expected the defense portion will be long. Lets see what kind of display they put on.

I hope you are right. It just feels so disjointed and unfinished to me.

I hear the peanut gallery squawking now "but it's not evidence he murdered them".

Backing up to this recording, to me it's not even what he said to Jarvis that's an issue. The fact that he's purposely not using the phone is pretty alarming. His deception is ringing church bells, in Saipan.

"Saipan"? :)

The judge explained it a little bit. I would have to listen again, but essentially he explained that Rudin did not put in his report, the nuts and bolts needed to support his ability to make certain claims, etc. And the defense had some issues with it. And the Prosecution then came up with another expert in same field who has a stronger history of doing trials and explaining his computations and results?
Isn't it too late for that? The defense put up a huge fuss about Smith's report as it is. Or does it just boil down to the judge allowing his (Liscio) findings in? Rudin has been doing trials since 1995, I would think that would be enough.

I'm not sure what else you were expecting - anything in the opening statements that hasn't been covered by the witnesses yet?

I suppose I wanted to hear about the two calls Joey made to the bank on the 4th. But I suppose that means no notes of the calls were kept. It's not such a leap though to say it was more than likely about the activity on his account that day, since he logged into QuickBooks before calling them back.

When told it’s a 6 month trial the i expect more.

I want to know about the phone call to Chase on the 4th at 8.ish and if the family were already dead how did Joey call chase?!

I want to see concrete proof of this lunch time meeting as they said in the opening Joey was active online during lunch so I want to know more about that.

I want to see proof that Joey made it home that afternoon as so far I haven’t seen any.

Those are things off the top of my head.

Was that this morning? This feed flickering on and off is so annoying to try and keep up.

Im not the least bit worried.

The CNN interview is a great place to end their CIC. If the judge is going to allow the defense a 4 week CIC then he will also allow the state plenty of time for rebuttal.

Usually it's the rebuttal witnesses that become key witnesses in any trial for the prosecution. Although I think they have already entered many things pointing to guilt that the defense couldn't explain away.

The state knew already they were going to put on a defense case so they hold their best witnesses until last.

Remember DA Juan Martinez in the Airas trial did the same thing....even sooner. He tore them up in rebuttal though.

The defense had a major objection, which was that the CNN video is only showing 20 minutes of a 5 hour interview, so it is skewed etc. Judge said 'oh well...good luck finding the unpublished 5 hours, but if you do...'
Are you getting a good live stream today? I'm missing all this stuff.

Ocean, this touches on a whole 'nother topic: Why do so many family members believe in innocence? I'm not at all sure that they actually do, but I've come to think it's just familial loyalty over justice. I saw a case, "up close and personal", where a woman killed her husband (actually, two), then when she came under suspicion, framed her daughter for the murder and attempted to kill her as well. I never understood why the grandparents of the young woman framed by her mother stood by the mother and proclaimed her innocence. It was so obvious who the culprit was!

I mulled this for so long, since one reason could have been that blaming it on the granddaughter was safe -there was no way she'd ever be convicted of the murder. However, I ultimately decided that what was really going on was the "blood is thicker than water" concept: The daughter was closer in blood/bond to the grandparents, and they were willing to let their granddaughter be blamed for murder, so as to save the murderous daughter. Awful.

Thankfully for all parties involved, the mother was convicted and died not long after in prison. It is thought she not only killed two husbands, framed her daughter for murder and attempted to murder her, but that she also murdered her own father.

So, "state of denial", I'm not so sure. Maybe in some cases, but I think in many it's just saving one's own, no matter the travesty of justice.
I can admit to being in denial. Had a friend accused of a crime. I supported him. He was guilty. Had blinders on. Feel awful to this day.

This was right after they excused the jury for a long early lunch break, until 1:30 PST I believe.

After jury left, attorneys argued for a bit about upcoming scheduling of witnesses. This new scan witness , apparently' cannot testify until march 12th. Which is a problem because the state plans to rest os's case before that date. So the judge suggested they reopen it at that time?

Hmmmm. You didn't realize that a "6 month trial" means 4 months for dental appointments, 1 1/2 months for prosecution/defense arguing and objecting, and 2 weeks for evidence? Where have you been?

I've heard descriptions of this family being like a circling wagon train protecting it's own, no matter what.

I have faith in any jury who takes copious notes. It means they are being very attentive paying very close attention.

The longer the defense case is the more the judge will allow the state to rebut.

The best from the state is yet to come. It's far from being over.

Yes, surprisingly, my stream worked today.

You must have gotten the good one, mine was in and out and all around, but at least we have something (and the YT videos should be pretty decent, might even have all of the morning if coming in late was only a stream issue and not the camera).

No one can testify about these things.

Chase can testify about meeting Joey for lunch if he takes the stand but then it will be a matter of whether the jurors believe him. I wouldn't believe him based on his phone not moving off the towers nearest to his home all day. I think the evidence of the cheque written at the house that night, reproduced the next day by Chase and backdated, is strong enough for them to make up their minds about whether they believe Joey was alive at that time.

It doesn't matter in terms of a conviction where Joey was killed.

What is really pathetic, and will bite Chase in the 🤬🤬🤬, is the story and excuses for that evening keep growing. Now we have Chase helping Cathy to remember that night.

Oh the tangled web he weaves himself into.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the look on Merritt's face when this jury convicts him for the murder of this family.

Me too ForceTen. Long time coming. But the longest wait is behind us now.

Appreciate all of your input on this case. Very knowledgeable and it shows. Thank you!

Regarding taking notes, I was surprised that they were allowed to. Some states don't allow it! (Or maybe particular judges -I'm not sure, but I do know that some juries aren't allowed notes during the trial.)

Are you getting a good live stream today? I'm missing all this stuff.

That is one of the reasons I cant endure watching this trial, which is highly unusual for me.

But throughout this trial every poster has complained about the difficulty they have had with the live feed on a consistent basis.

I will be glad to see CourtTV back on the air in June. I have really missed Vinnie the most.

What matters most is the jury is hearing everything clear as a bell.

Plus I wish I had several hours to devote to watching it, but I unfortunately don't.

Right now, I just had to prepare my homemade chicken, and dumplings for our dinner. Plus I still have to make a homemade lemon glazed cake too before dinner. Lol
