Yes, I'd say legal drugs, meaning prescription drugs and over the counter drugs (and marijuana is legal in CA) are still on the table (since not yet excluded), and all forms of poison, except Cyanide, appear to still be on the table as cause of death.

As are things like algae toxins, heat stroke, etc. or a combo of things...
Going one step more, weed is legal, but weed laced with carfentanil (example only) is not, but illegal drug has been ruled out.
Suicide is ruled out so if legal Rx drug used recreationally caused ODs, it would have to be “accidental death” as we’ve seen so many times in the past. Correct? All MOO

Yes, I agree with your interpretation.

I’ve been chomping at the bit awaiting toxicology reports. This statement from today’s link is perplexing. I see no benefit to keeping them sealed for now. Unless qualitative and still working on quantitative and confirmation results??? Moo.
from link:

The sheriff's office says that many toxicology reports have returned, but the contents of those reports will not be disclosed at this time.

I’m not LE, but maybe they’re not being technical…just providing info in a way that the average reader (like me, apparently o_O) can understand. I.e., they’re not trying to sound like the ME; rather, they are just trying to answer questions that might be in people’s mind. Moo.
When I watched the video of Sheriff Briese giving updates on this case, then asking questions of the public where they could win two tickets to a rodeo, my heart sank. I’m sure we will soon get a report to say they all succumbed to heatstroke or dehydration due to the massive hike they undertook.

If you all are referring to the update supplied by Corin Hoggard from ABC, the ABC story is dated Aug 26. Haven't there been updates since then?

No need to apologize. I stand corrected, but I still think we don't know with certainty where 'homicide' stands. And maybe LE is purposely vague because they don't know either. Like @Han said, it seems odd to rule out ANY manner of death before cause of death.

So here we are re: homicide...

1. Early on, like Day 1, LE says it is a homicide investigation.

2. Day 5, LE says no longer considering homicide, presuming reporting is OK.

3. Day 45, LE says manner of death does not include suicide but is silent on both homicide and accident. Yet they repeat other information they previously released on excluded causes of death like CO, no weapon.

I tend to weigh this new reporting by LE on Day 45 MUCH heavier than Day 1 or 5. But that is just my opinion!
Sheriff might wait for the ME to affirm cause/manner but wanted to put “something” out here. Idk. Moo and all that jazz. And there’s often a very fine line between suicide/accident. Not implying OD deaths in this case but we’ve all been shocked at least once by celebrity that was a known addict and perhaps suicidal, but their deaths often get ruled as accidental. I think because family and friends convince ME and LE “no, no way was he suicidal.” So ME goes with accidental because he really has no way of knowing if an OD is intentional, or not. Unless of course the deceased left a note.
Again, moo

Food poisoning WAS not RULED OUT.
Just because they died on the trail doesn’t necessarily mean the agent/toxin that might have sickened all 4 was something in the forest.
I’ve often wondered about their homes. Was there something in their house that finally caught up with them?
did anyone bring food to them, and so forth.
Such a mystery.

What’s really bizarre is no one from SAR and CSU suffered reactions from the area. Granted they wore masks and hazmat suits (moo).

One of the SAR team members had to be removed and treated during the search/recovery but I believe it was heat related. (Source is buried in the early threads.)

Did the dog and infant eat the same food as adults? Possible, but not likely, especially the dog. MOO

yes, it was heat related afaik.

My dogs will eat anything and a one y.o. can eat some table food, imo. French fries, pepperoni slices, Mac n cheese etc.

The thing that still bothers me about HS is I think the dog necropsy would have at least shown HS, based on what I’ve read and been told.

How long does food poisoning take to kill? I recall reading the family visited a few places in town on Friday. Maybe they ate out and brought leftovers home, giving some to the dog?

If blooms and/or water are still high on the list I would expect an APB to get livestock off natural water sources and everyone living close to natural water sources to take shelter. moo

British Snapchat engineer, his wife, baby and dog were not killed by lightning | Daily Mail Online

9/30/21

Authorities in California have ruled out a freak lightning strike and cyanide exposure as possible causes of death of a British Snapchat engineer and his family,
but more than six weeks later they appear to be no closer to finding out what killed the young parents, their baby daughter and pet dog on a remote hiking trail.

Mariposa County Sheriff Jeremy Briese said in an emailed statement on Thursday that many toxicology reports have been completed as part of the ongoing investigation into the August 17 deaths of Jonathan Gerrish, his wife, Ellen Chung, daughter Muji and their family dog, but a few 'key' results were still pending.

Briese did not specify the exact nature of the outstanding toxicology results and said he does not know when they would come in.
