SAN DIEGO -- A house painter accused of using an aluminum bat to kill his stepfather, mother, brother and their dog, along with his own pet, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to murder charges that could lead to the death penalty.

Prior to the killings, Brown wrote a note to his wife, who was being treated at a hospital for an undisclosed illness, saying "I apologize for what I'm about to do," according to the prosecutor

snip:The judge also ordered sheriff's deputies at the jail to provide basic hygiene for Brown, after defense attorney Richard Gates said the defendant was "covered in human waste" and needed a shower.




Well he obviously knew his wife would be displeased with what he was about to do.

A Grantville man was insane when he used an aluminum baseball bat to kill his mother, stepfather, brother and two pet dogs in 2005, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Michael Monroe Brown, 50, pleaded guilty last month to three counts of first-degree murder, animal cruelty and special circumstance allegations of multiple murders, lying in wait and mayhem...

Brown will be evaluated by doctors who will recommend placement as an outpatient or lifetime confinement to a state mental hospital.
