The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing juvenile.

16 year-old Josephine Jimenez was last seen in the area of Gateway & Yosemite in the city of Madera on Tuesday 10/15/19.

Josephine is a 16 year old Hispanic female juvenile, with brown hair and brown eyes, 5’5” tall, and 125 pounds. If anyone has information relating to this case or Josephine’s whereabouts, please contact the Madera County Sheriff’s Detective Padgett at (559) 474-2302 or the main office at (559) 675-7770. Madera is a small agricultural town in the Central Valley of California, two hours from Yosemite. It's poor and working class, lots of farmworkers, few opportunities.

Body of missing teenage girl found in rural Madera County
Deputies responded to a call for a possible body around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the rural southern area of Madera County, according to a social media post.

On Friday the body was identified as Jimenez after an autopsy. Investigators have not commented on whether there are indications of foul play.

This is very sad. Josephine seemed like a loving girl with a big family.
She was a fan of Trent Shelton who is a motivational speaker and 'rehabber'.

'She had a heart of gold': Body of missing teen found in Madera Co., family pleading for justice

"We were hoping for Josephine to come home and I don't know how to feel. I'm hurting," the victim's father said.

Madera County Sheriff's deputies discovered Josephine's body nearly ten days later in a Madera County field. Officials won't release an exact location but did say she was found an agricultural area about six to seven miles away from her home.

Now detectives are investigating her death as a homicide.

After looking at Josephine’s FB it’s evident she was so very loved and loved her family. She was always tagging them in posts expressing her love for them and their anguish is plain to see. It’s a shame not all children are loved in the way Josephine was, rest in peace beautiful.

On Thursday, Madera County Sheriff's Office detectives took the former Marine into custody on a first-degree murder charge in connection with Jimenez's death, based on information derived from his interview in December as well as new evidence discovered during a follow-up investigation.

Slayton has been booked at the Madera County Department of Corrections, where he's being held on a $1 million bond, according to the sheriff's office. It's unclear whether he has obtained a lawyer.

NCIS Tip Leads to Arrest of Oceanside Man in Teen Girl’s Mysterious Death

Slayton was believed to be talking to Jimenez before her death through a variety of social media apps -- and she may not be the only one; MCSO said Slayton may have been talking with young girls across California, and possibly the country.

NCIS was investigating Slayton for a separate matter, and the information they obtained led investigators to believe Slayton may have been involved in Jimenez's death, MCSO said. The Naval agency contacted MCSO in December 2019 to share their findings.

"MCSO Detectives promptly traveled to interview the subject, 19-year-old Codi Slayton, in Oceanside, CA. Following an interview with Detectives, Slayton was taken into custody by NCIS on unrelated charges," MCSO said.

Slayton was later arrested and transported to Madera County to face a charge of first-degree murder. He remains in custody on $1 million bail, MCSO said.
