Jesse Camp, a one-time video jockey for MTV’s “Total Request Live,” has been reported missing in Riverside, California.

Camp’s sister, Marisha, reported to Riverside police on July 19 that she had last seen her brother in California, and announced his disappearance in an Instagram story on Monday.

Police investigating disappearance of former MTV VJ Jesse Camp

A spokesman for the Riverside Police Department in California confirmed to Page Six on Monday that Camp, whose real name is Josiah Camp, was reported missing on July 19 by his sister. Friends and family have been sharing concerned messages on social media, asking anyone for information on his whereabouts.

Camp, 38, rose to fame in 1998 when he became an MTV VJ after winning the network’s first “Wanna Be a VJ” contest. He had previously been homeless.

In recent times, Camp had been keeping in touch with his elderly mother via weekly phone calls, but according to police, he hasn’t contacted her since July 11 or 12. An ex-girlfriend of Camp’s also tried reaching out to him but told cops a stranger picked up his cell phone and said that Camp had given him the phone and three bags of property.

The police spokesman also told Page Six that Camp’s sister said he had been depressed lately but didn’t indicate if he was suicidal.

The former “TRL” personality was last seen in Riverside. He has not been located in any local hospitals or jails.

Should any suspicion be found, Camp’s case will be transferred to the robbery-homicide unit.

Jesse Camp, the former homeless man who became an MTV VJ by winning a reality-show contest, has been reported as missing by his family.

The New York Post’s Page Six column reported Monday, citing the Riverside Police Department in California, that the former TV star whose real name is Josiah Camp has not been seen for almost two weeks.

The sister of Josiah Camp, more commonly known as "Jesse Camp," reported him as a missing person to the Riverside Police Department on Thursday, July 19, 2018. Family members who he routinely keeps in contact with had not heard from him for about a week. During their inquiries into his possible whereabouts, they learned Jesse was recently in the city of Riverside, but is also known to frequent the Inland Empire region. There does not appear to be anything suspicious at this time regarding Jesse being missing other than his ceased contact with family and friends.

Jesse was famously known in the late 90's and early 2000's for hosting shows on MTV. After news of Jesse going missing today, it was learned he was last seen in the city of Fontana Thursday morning, before the missing person report was made.

According to the article linked above, a police officer interacted with him in the morning of July 19th, just hours before he was reported missing. I wonder what prompted the officer to check him out.

The officer saw Camp in front of a Sherwin Williams store around 10am and did a 'pedestrian check' to make sure he was okay.

After determining that Camp was fine and verifying his identity, the officer took no further action. Hours later, [Camp's sister] filed a missing person report in Riverside.

Well he was arrested for a common theft technique users tend to do, so my guess is drugs are involved at some level. Meth or heroin, not sure what the "thing" is in that area. Probably explains why the officer needed to do a welfare check at 10am outside the store...that's usually why they do them in CO. Giving his cell phone and 3 bags of property to a "stranger" could indicate he owed some money for drugs, or possibly something else, but drugs would be my best guess. All MOO. I have a feeling he is probably okish, but we'll see.

Poor fella, I feel sorry for him. He never moved past that spazzy character/image. It was cute and funny when he was young and on MTV, but he's 38 now and it's not so cute or funny.
