Placer County Search and Rescue volunteers are searching for 46 year old Kathryn “Lani” Jones this morning in the Carnelian Bay area. Jones, a local resident of Carnelian Bay, crashed her vehicle early Monday afternoon on S/R 28 near Garwood’s.

Good Samaritans stopped at the crash and assisted Jones out of her vehicle; while awaiting for emergency personnel to arrive, Jones walked away from the scene and has not been seen or heard from since. We are concerned for her safety.

Jones was last seen wearing a beanie (unknown color), black jacket and dark-colored yoga pants.
Search and Rescue crews began searching for her last night, and search efforts are ramping up this morning.

If anyone has information of the whereabouts of Kathryn “Lani” Jones, they are encouraged to contact Placer County Sheriff’s Sergeant Dave Hunt at 530-581-6321.

A comment by someone on the original LE fb post says they saw this accident and it was around 4:30pm with snow and cold, just to give an idea of the conditions. LE also states they did not get a mp report until last night, so she was missing for 3 days before someone decided to call it in. I hope she is OK and this is not another Maura Murray

Another article from 6 days ago with some added details:

Body of Carnelian Bay woman found one mile from car crash on SR28

Kathryn "Lani" Jones was found on a popular hiking and snowshoe trail about one-half mile from her home. . . .The crash occurred about one mile from where she was eventually found.

According to Sgt. Hunt of the Placer County Sheriff's Office, Jones was not dressed for being outdoors for a prolonged period of time. At the time of the accident where was wearing yoga pants, a jacket and beanie.

At this time there is no known cause of death but it does not appear to be suspicious according to Sgt. Hunt. It appears she was trying to walk home.
