Authorities searching for missing woman, 92, in Centralia - The Daily Chronicle

A Silver Alert has been issued for a missing 92-year-old woman in Centralia who is believed to be in danger.
  • Martha Norman was last seen at her Centralia residence in the 100 block of Black Bear Lane at about 5:15 p.m.on Friday, Aug. 18.
  • Deputies were notified she was missing at about 6:30 p.m.
  • Martha has dementia and is believed to have walked away from her residence.
  • Lewis County deputies and search and rescue teams with K9 units worked through the night in an attempt to locate her.
  • Martha is 5'4" tall and 100 pounds with brown eyes and white hair.
  • She was last seen wearing a brown jacket, yellow shirt, maroon fleece pants and black boots with fur lining around the ankles.

Lewis County deputies and search and rescue (SAR) teams with K9 units worked through the night Aug. 18 in an attempt to locate Norman but were unsuccessful, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

“Our SAR team will resume searching tomorrow morning with K9s,” Field Operations Bureau Captain Rick Van Wyck said in an email to a Chronicle reporter on Monday, Aug. 21.

After several days of searching, missing 92-year-old Centralia woman Martha Norman was found dead in a wooded area near Black Bear Lane in Centralia at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

“The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted with the Lewis County Coroner’s office,” the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release Tuesday afternoon.
