See, I may be flamed for what I am going to say, but this is my true opinion, so...I don't care if you are male/female/whatever, if you take someone's life other than self-defense (no other option, kill or be killed), you should be held accountable. PERIOD. ESPECIALLY if you are already dxed with a mental illness and are on medication and CHOOSE to go off the meds. That was freedom of CHOICE. I used to be ashamed, but when I was 17, I was diagnosed w/ Bipolar Disorder (I am 40 now). From the time I was dxed, I learned everything I could about my illness and learned that medication is a necessary part of living a "normal" and successful life. I now have several degrees, including grad degrees in Psychology and Education because I would not let it rule my life. I HAVE NO sympathy for someone who CHOOSES to go off meds. The victims are STILL dead and he must STILL pay.

I hope you didn't take my comment to mean that I believe this man shouldn't be convicted and punished. It was just my opinion as to why Katrina may have been romantically involved with him.

When women kill their families in horrific ways the public are much more likely to believe that they are mentally ill, whereas when men do the same thing people say they are just evil and are faking mental illness.

Women can (and do) suffer from pregnancy-related hormonal imbalances and some are so severe they can lead to post-partum psychosis. Andrea Yates is the perfect example of someone who was already mentally ill but her last pregnancy took her over the edge.

Men don't suffer from pregnancy hormones, so that's a big difference right there. But yes, crazy is crazy and if this guy was as crazy as he seems AND if he really had been telling Katrina and everyone he was going to kill her and had been doing so for awhile then I don't understand why she would want to or was allowed to be around this monster.

*If* he is diagnosed with a mental illness he won't get the DP (nor should he), but he will be locked away for life.

i wonder if his dad suffocated him or if he suffocated inside his deceased mother prior to being cut out? I guess the coroner can tell if the baby had taken a breath. im sure it will come out at trial/court proceedings. how heartbreaking

Allegedly he killed the mom on a Thurs (day before car crash) and didn't remove the baby until the next day. He probably had no idea a baby cannot survive in a dead mother's body longer than a couple minutes. Aside from being crazy and/or evil, he's not the brightest bulb in the package.

I read that too - in one of the MSM links or on her FB, I can't recall where.

Katrina's baby was going to be named Josiah. She has a go fund me account set up by her niece in her and the babys name. She has 3 kids she left behind. Her daughter was also Manuel Vela.
The baby was not breathing or have a pulse when Manuel threw the baby down to continue running. There was a peds nurse tjat tried to save the baby. Since CPR was started the ambulance has to continue until a MD can pronounce.
The car chase ended by my kids house and we knew it was bad by all the cops and street shut down.
Is this guy crazy? Probally you have to be a little crazy to do such awful things. When the court doc are released is when we will get the full picture. News says they were not going into the graphic sexual crimes that went on in that car. Well we know he choked her in his front doorway and then put her body in the car. So sadly any sexual crimes after were with her dead. Which amps up this awful crime. Just when you think the worst has already come out.

The friend says that Katrina's big heart and her faith motivated her to try to help Vela overcome his demons and his drug addiction.

He keeps saying "Thank you for (addressing????) my mental disorder" Through my time working ER I have treated patients brought in by the cops or family for not taking meds on purpose or couldnt afford them. Most of them are paranoid and not telling me that have mental disorder. I read he was in the psych ward for unknown time while in prison.
He just feels way to open. He remembers everything including the times he did it at. If he had a break he wouldnt know what was real and what wasn't. He also knew when the cops got close to hang the out the window because it would back them off and not shot or try and do any more maneuvers with baby in car. When he finally was stopped he also knew to grab the baby because they wouldn't taser him or shot at him. When the k9 got close to throw the baby at thr dog, probally to slow them down yo check baby.

I just feel that he was following a well rehearse story to make sure the find him mentally unstable. Especially him saying it was only fair to put him to death.

Of course this is just what I think.
