I'm a comma person when I'm texting. I kinda use them as a break to accentuate the cadence of what I'm saying, if that makes sense.

I find the comma between KR's I love you and too to be very odd. I wonder if that was normal for her. Has her Mom said that text seemed odd in any way?
This has already been discussed that it was probably the reporter that made the error in punctuation

I just binged the previous 4 threads & sort of wild that after 2 weeks there are only 11 public, verified LE facts (but ofc, we only know a tiny bit of what LE knows. thank you @RedHaus for your list) my thoughts:

I don’t buy that Kiely took a wrong turn & ended up in Prosser Lake. Yes, that’s something that could happen to someone not familiar with the area & that road/boat ramp scares me but she was familiar and I don’t necessarily buy that she was too drunk to not know where she was going. She was sober enough to (supposedly) text her mother and sober enough to care to call SS about driving her home.

I think she followed other cars out of the area and ended up at an after-party. I think a clue to this is LE noting her gold jewelry and the sweatshirt she was wearing that night (LE confirmed they have video of her wearing the sweatshirt.) Also, @rudegirl just brought up a great point: Why was her ex-boyfriend & other friend (sorry, just forgot her name) in Reno searching for her - Did she end up at an after-party in Reno?

I don’t think it’s strange that we haven’t heard more firsthand accounts about her at the party (either pictures or interviews.) These are kids/young adults thinking about their futures - they’re not going to reach out to the media, they will reach out to LE; my thought is LE has some of these stories & doesn’t feel we need to know about them to help move the case forward at the moment. I also don’t find it strange that there isn’t much on social media in regards to public pictures - underage kids aren’t going to post incriminating evidence.

I loved @flckrct idea that she turned her phone off after last text to mom to buy extra time (to possibly go to an after-party) and that would make sense with the timing of the last ping — but then I was reading that the phone could still ping even after being shut off? So the last ping still doesn’t make sense to me, as in the time & location don’t add up.

It was reported that her laptop was in her car - I wonder if that can be traced?

All MOO & Thank you all for the maps & pictures & great insight.
You bring up some excellent points.

The confusion I have over the after party theory is that:

1) from what we think we know it is not consistent with her character or behavior.
2) if she was buying time to go to another party why request such a short curfew extension?
3) if she was told that her mom wanted to be awakened when she got home how could she get around that if she spent any time at all at an after party (particularly if she left as late as she is assumed to have left Prosser)?

Which leads me to believe that if there was an after party she either did not go there voluntarily (or at least was told she would be able to leave in time to get home) or she was so messed up that she acted in such a manner that seems to be inconsistent with her normal behavior.

Maybe KR asked for the later time for curfew because she was going to go to one of these other gatherings, placing her a further drive from her home?
As I understand it, Kiely said to her mother she was coming straight home, and the curfew she asked for was only an extra 45 mins, as she'd already stayed at the party too long to enable her to be home in time for the original curfew.

MOO.

She may not have had plans to head anywhere when she asked for the extension and checked in with her mom.

Although, when her mom said "wake me up when you get home", that does leave the exact time one gets home a bit more flexible and the possibility if someone says "Oh come on, your mom is asleep. Come with us just for a little while." more possible.

I've said this previously, but in any other situation, where absolutely nothing happened, and we never heard of Kiely what likely would have happened? "Good morning mom." "Hey, you forgot to wake me up when you go home last night." "Sorry! I was so tired/You're so tired/I forgot/etc Want anything from Starbucks?" Her mom might have been annoyed, but probably it would have been left at that. She seems pretty laidback otherwise.

The other thing to keep in mind is that while Kiely is only 16/almost 17, she has graduated high school, and had plans to attend college. So something like a curfew may be more like a checking in out of respect/safety rather than a hard and fast "You be home by ___" situation. Her mother did say they always granted the extension, so what reason would Kiely have to intentionally "sneak" around?

Makes this all the more troubling, IMO.

Have not heard of AWP before. Do they get grants or donations?
{answering my own Q} seems like donations and monetizing videos, selling tee shirts, etc.

I wonder how that would have played out if she asked for another 2 or 3 hours?

Or if she asked to sleepover there until morning?

I follow AWP and those guys are top notch. I will have to say the biggest red flag, or clue for me is the fact the phone stopped pinging. The average person, and or teenager, who apparently has a good relationship with her mom, doesn't just turn off their phone and, or take the battery out to go silent. From AWP's perspective, which they have noted in past cases, is that if a phone is in the water that will stop a phone ping cold. Based on the tracking of that last ping, direction of travel, last now location and the surrounding bodies of water, her being submerged is a fair assumption. The fact she contacted her mom asked for more time ect.. sounds like she was truly planning on coming home.

Valid arguments @franker. Her mom said in an interview (I think it was a video interview posted in an earlier thread) that she was usually good about her curfew & if she asked for a later curfew it was usually granted - so in my mind, I’d ask for a later curfew but not be too greedy about it?? But yeah, that is a plot point that doesn’t add up because as you mentioned, she was supposed to wake her mom up when she got home so no matter, her mom would know the time & know that she was late. Maybe Kiely thought just this one time she would be forgiven because this was the big farewell party?

MOO

Oops sorry - I thought I quoted/posted @franker reply.

Around 2:00 in the video, AWP says they are focused on Donner Lake, in the area of the boat launch. I am paraphrasing, but they say they cannot say why the focus is there, but they do mention “working off of intel”.

ETA- Doug said “I really wish I could tell you, unfortunately I can’t, what we’re working with right now, no one knows.”

IMO Donner Lake is a very narrow lake with roads going all around the lake. It also has a deep channel up to 350' deep. However, I am not sure how often someone accidentally drives into the lake. I could find no stories about such occurences, despite the roads and house that are near the lake.

Interstate 80 which runs parallel to the north side of the lake is known for its traffic accidents in that area....IMO.

The boat ramp on the lake is also easily accessible from I-80. Anyone leaving the party that is the last known location of the missing person and headed back to SAC or the Bay area would go by the exit for the boat ramp....Exit 180, I believe....IMO.

It appears LE and AWP are currently ruling out the Prosser Creek Res. south boat ramp area...IMO

So this media has different info on when and where Kiely was last seen. Previously, it was "about 12:30". Now it is:
"Friends last recall seeing her at the campground between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on August 6. Also missing is her silver 2013 Honda CRV. Law enforcement says her phone went out of service around the time she was last seen and has not been turned back on. Its last ping was somewhere near Prosser Lake."

I wonder if this is updated information OR this media's take on the previously mentioned time. I'd trust it more if this was a statement from LE.

I might be mistaken, but I get the feeling that everybody, including LE, is waiting on what the new water search team finds.
I agree because if the car is found and she is in it and it is shown to be an accident, case closed. If AWP is not able to find the vehicle in any of the nearby bodies of water, LE will shift near full attention to probable foul play, although there will still be that niggle of doubt that she hasn’t had a mva somewhere else in the forest.

Pardon me if this has been covered. SS and Mag's said in News videos, and I think it is well established, that the party was "posted all over social media", that's why people were "there from all over". Has ANYONE found ANY social media posts about this party? Before or After the party? ANY?

  • #137
AND, something that has really been bothering me. I find it odd that Kiely would get smashed knowing she was going to be driving home. The way SS talks, she didn't stop drinking anticipating she would be driving? She was an Honor student graduating at 16, Mom says VERY responsible. Just doesn't sit right at all. So many questions, maybe LE has answers to some.

{answering my own Q} seems like donations and monetizing videos, selling tee shirts, etc.
They are a 501C3 as per Charity Navigator and their own site. I could provide attribution links, except it might look like solicitation of donations, so won’t per our TOS.

Amateur opinion and speculation

Indeed. Scary times for local teens.

"PLACER COUNTY, Calif. —
Northern California officials are warning people about 'rainbow' fentanyl making its way across the region. The Placer County District Attorney's Office said the bright colors are being used to lure minors."
