Update, 10:55 a.m.: A Monterey County Superior Court judge on Friday denied a motion seeking an acquittal for Paul Flores, who was convicted of murdering Cal Poly student Kristin Smart. A Monterey County jury found the San Pedro man guilty of first-degree murder on Oct. 18 while a separate jury acquitted his father, Arroyo Grande resident Ruben Flores, of helping his son conceal the crime.
