GUILTY CA - Lana Clarkson, 40, fatally shot, Alhambra, 3 Feb 2003

As we are nearing the end of this trial, I just wanted to tell you guys, how much I have enjoyed your posts on this trial. To tell you the truth, I enjoyed reading much more than posting, this time 'round.

And as we sit here through the final days of trial, I return to the one singular moment that was related during the trial. Prefacing this "moment", was a description of Lana's body, as investigators found it. We were walked through the details of position, location in the home, surrounding pieces of furniture, etc. And yet the one element that speaks volumes to me, was the observation that Lana had her purse affixed to her shoulder. Although I can't recall the exact words used (someone here no doubt has them at their fingertips), I seemed to recall the inference that there was a shoulder strap on her purse. Or that her purse handles were long enough, to allow her to tuck her purse onto her shoulder. And there was a suggestion that the purse was in disheveled in some way. Perhaps that ment, hanging to one side, in a sloppy sort of way.

Have never been able to get that visal out of my mind. Though all these days of endless testimony. That one visual haunts me...

What woman, grabs her purse, quickly slings it over her shoulder - heads for the foyer - and poof, decides to commit suicide? Purse over the shoulder and suicide? Nope. I ain't buying it.

If it were not for that purse over the shoulder, I might have some doubt. The purse slung over the shoulder, tells me psycho-Phil did it.

Best regards to all.

A woman was shot dead in Phil Spector's house. Spector did not pick up a phone and dial 911. He spent 30-40 minutes arranging the scene. A credible witness heard Spector say, "I think I just killed somebody." A long list of women testify that Spector pulled guns on them when they wanted to leave. This is what it all comes down to.

Phil Spector's often-absent lead lawyer, Bruce Cutler, announced Monday that he is leaving the music producer's murder case because of "a difference of opinion between Mr. Spector and me on strategy."

Cutler made the announcement as the trial resumed for what was expected to be the last day of testimony. It wasn't immediately clear if he quit or if Spector fired him.

Cutler had been absent from the trial for many weeks so he could appear on a syndicated TV show. He told Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler that he was prepared to return and do the closing arguments for Spector, but now, Cutler said, "there's nothing I can do for Mr. Spector. I can no longer effectively represent him."

The judge asked Spector if everything that Cutler said was accurate.

"That is correct," Spector answered in a raspy voice.

Defense attorney Roger Rosen has stepped in as lead lawyer.

Much more at link.

I was in court this smorning when he made the announcement: "not with a bang but with a whimper." Ron Rosen visibly showed his happiness after that.

Well, a week until closing arguments, anyone else think it will be a short deliberation? The defense witnesses were all discredited and as mentioned the purse is huge. Spector should have plead, IMO, I think he's cooked.

I agree, However, while the jury walked by him on their way out of court this early evening, one juror did look over (1/2 foot away) and smiled to Kinney-Baden. He's the constant note-taker.

Thanks Jeana! As opposed to somewhere else that just got closed for the night! :D

What a shock today about Bruce Cutler! So now we do know that Spector is running the defense just like we thought. Now it will be Rosen & Linda Baden doing the closing arguments. This is getting more interesting by the moment.

If these jurors just have common sense they'll convict him in no time. The Judge is going to give lesser included charges of voluntary & involuntary manslaughter isn't he? That's the only thing I see that might hold up their deliberations. ;)

I've always believed that the most important witness was Adriano! And the information that Spector never picked up any of the phones to call 911. Then the defense tries to say that he was trying to help Lana.

Has any of you out there read the Clarkson civil suit? It directly relates to the fact that Spector didn't call 911 and that he left Lana alive. Real justice will come after Spector is in jail and Lana's family sues him for all that he has and WILL EVER HAVE (residuals).

I haven't read it. I don't think any of us know for sure how long she may have lived after being shot, if at all. But the fact still remains that he claims she shot herself, and yet he didn't do anything that might have saved her ~ since he isn't a doctor and didn't know if she was dead or still alive.

Remember: the burden of proof is "preponderance of the evicence" not "beyond a reasonable doubt in civil cases. If, using the defense asrgument that she took in air and expelled it, that leads to his not calling 911. He's going to be poor when the civil case is over. Mrs. Clarkson and her lawyer sit through testimony day in and day out. Read her lawyer's brief!!!!!!!!!

That's what I couldn't figure out about Dr. Baden's testimony! It's almost like he sealed Spector's fate ~ at least in civil court ~ with that theory.

I'll go look for the link to the lawsuit! :)

Correcto Mundo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only in "Hollywood:" as the jury filed out to exit in the courtroom's main public entrance, the last juror was on his cell!!!!!!!!!! I thought that was very humerous. Matt Something or other from Scripts-Howard also saw that as amusing.

I can't give you any hint as to where to find it although I was told today.

Hmmm Yadler, what is this juror's #, if you know? I read your posts in reply to my question, a bit back in this thread and sorry I haven't had the time to reply as I have been in and out of town, and have only been able to keep up by reading Kim and Sprocket's Blogs. Thank goodness for them and their efforts. I have really felt bad for Sprocket, she is a terrific gal. I think PS and the one busy body, either W or K (whoever they are) were responsible and conspired together. jmo

Sounds like you have a good take on the courtroom and some of the people there.

Well as long as there isn't a fix in for a hung jury, he should be toast. :behindbar

Thinking from the beginning, and remembering Lana didn't want to go to the castle, as she had to be at work the next day:

1. Phil's history of using guns when one (ladies) want to leave/ his drinking-
2. "I think I killed somebody" statement-Gun in hand with blood on it-
3. No call to 911 by Phil--14 phones-
4. 40 mins of Phil doing whatever-
5. Lana seated with purse on her shoulder-by the door-
6. Lana's face wiped---head moved
7. Gun found under her left foot.
8. Gun was wiped, blood in recesses/gun
9. Blood spatter on Phil's jacket
10. No spatter beyond Lana's hemline of her dress
11.Lana's blood found on the banister, front door, diaper, in his pocket
12.Phil resisted arrest
13.Phil's statements to LE, inconsistent

Anyone want to add to the list?

Surely not another OJ or Blake verdict here!

Will he take off, or 'off' himself?

these things may not point to his guilt but they may factor into how the jury feels about his defence and him.

1. pumpkin pie. if a star witness for the defence is believed to be a total liar it cannot reflect well on PS.
2. missing evidence. if the evidence does not point to his guilt why would it not be turned over?
3. surprise! she was breathing after death. when the judge tells the jury that the defence surprised the court with this information and did not play by the rules i think it will affect their feelings for the defence.

whatever the jury feels for the defence will affect how they feel for PS imo.
