I don't get these women. If someone threatened me to kill me with a gun, I would not continue to see that person let alone work for them. Makes their stories less than credible to me JMO

I just realized nobody updated Phil's thread!

Judge will allow women to testify against Spector

9:03 p.m. September 15, 2008

LOS ANGELES – A judge says five women who testified that Phil Spector threatened them with a gun in the music producer's first murder trial will testify again in his second trial. Spector is charged with murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler decided not to rule Monday on a motion to introduce the testimony of a sixth woman, Norma Kemper.

Fidler rejected the prosecution's motion to allow testimony about four other gun incidents involving Spector, and his two gun-related misdemeanor convictions.

The 68-year-old Spector and his attorneys say Clarkson committed suicide. In his first trial last September, jurors deadlocked 10-2 in favor of his guilt.
Jury selection for the second trial begins Oct. 2.

Phil Spector Round Deux: Will There Be Trial Coverage?

There is no media outlet willing to spend the money to cover Spector 2. Not one agency has filed a motion with Fidler to cover it. However, one of the T&T bloggers is in contact with media industry people that might be able to supply coverage if there is enough interest from people to pay to view the trial online.

It would be similar to the old Court TV format of a monthly fee, for online streaming coverage, except it would only be for Spector. If anyone here supports this and are willing to pay to see this trial, please leave a comment on T&T, as well as sign the petition that is linked on T&T, and they will then forward the information to their contacts. The more people interested, the less it would cost per person.

New jury hears arguments in Spector murder retrial

A prosecutor on Wednesday portrayed eccentric musical genius Phil Spector as a man who repeatedly threatened women with guns and could become "very sinister, very violent and very deadly" when he was drunk.

The opening statement by prosecutor Alan Jackson in Spector's retrial on a murder charge drew scrutiny from defense attorney Doron Weinberg, who called it an effort to try Spector for his character, rather than for the crime he is accused of committing.

Prosecutors claim Spector shot actress Lana Clarkson in 2003 after she resisted his sexual advances.

"This is turning into the trial of his character, which this court knows is clearly unconstitutional and impermissible," Weinberg told Superior Court Judge Larry Fidler outside the jury's presence.

Weinberg later moved for a mistrial, saying the jury had been intentionally poisoned by the remarks. Fidler rejected the motion.

In a speech reminiscent of the one he gave at the first trial, Jackson briefly described the killing of Clarkson at Spector's mansion and displayed photos showing her in life and death. One image showed her body slumped in a chair with blood all over her face.

Jackson also recounted the statement of a chauffeur who told of Spector emerging from the house saying: "I think I killed somebody."

Jackson delivered his statement before a packed courtroom, with Clarkson's mother and sister seated in the front row. Spector wore a black pinstriped suit and white tie and was accompanied to court by his wife, Rachelle, and a bodyguard.

The defense was expected to give its opening statement later in the day. In Spector's first trial, the defense argued the 40-year-old Clarkson became despondent over her fading career and killed herself.

Most of Jackson's opening statement dealt with a long line of women stretching over 30 years who he said were threatened with death by a gun-wielding Spector.

He showed photos of five of them interspersed with quotes from their previous testimony, profane voicemail messages left for them by Spector and, in one case, a video excerpt from the testimony of a witness who has since died.

In that footage, Diane Ogden pointed a finger at her head and testified that Spector held a gun to her face. "He said he was going to blow my brains out," she testified.

The judge told Jackson several times to stop referring to a pattern of behavior.

Thanks all you WS's,

I have been looking forward to this retrial for a long time. I followed religously at work. Ever since I retired last October I have been knocking on doors.
I'd gladly help pay for the feed and will look up Trials and Tribuations. What does In Session have that's so compelling that they can't spring for this? Today (for the short time I watched) was an old trial about a woman who allegedly killed her husband's lover.

I wonder if Sprocket will try to cover this trial? She was astonishing last time.

Keep the udates coming.

Thanks again,

I hope you do find a feed - not sure there is - but I would love to read what's going on too! I too don't understand WHY some of the networks aren't showing this... not fair!! So - go ahead would love to hear about it!

Did you notice Fox news put the articial under "Entertainment":waitasec:
Was funny to me.....:blushing:

Crimetainment.

Little beats the controversy surrounding a guilty celebrity who goes free or some poor soul getting destroyed via a wrongful conviction.

Hey JDB! Long time no 'see'! Yes, the trial is still going on - see JBean's post #33 for the website - Sprocket's - she is keeping us updated on the trial, as she has been attending it! Great reporting from her too, by the way!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I was glued to the TV during the 1st trial and have been amazed at the lack of coverage it has been getting in the media. Even the entertainment media has been pretty quiet. I'm jumping over to Sprocket's blog to play catch up.
