An alleged drunken driver who drove away after slamming her PT Cruiser into a minivan full of children was ordered Monday to serve probation.

Lindy Lorel Benningfield, 31, told state District Judge Philip Kazen through tears that she was “very sorry” for failing to stop and render aid. The incident had served as a wake-up call for her, prompting her to enroll at a substance abuse clinic, she said.
