Circumstances of Recovery: Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) arrived at a burned-out structure in the 30900 block of 106th Street in the Juniper Hills area near Littlerock on October 11, 2018, after receiving information that multiple bodies were buried on the property. Three bodies were initially discovered in a grave next to the burned-out structure. Roughly 2 weeks later, on October 23, additional charred and fragmentary human remains were discovered in a fire pit in front of the house on the property.

A neighbor told a reporter that pricey equipment -- including jet skis, boats, new cars, and a construction truck with trailer -- began popping up on property earlier in 2018. The neighbor said that he found these deliveries odd as he had never seen anyone at the home.

Shortly after the discovery, law enforcement identified Jesus "Chuy" Guzman as a person of interest in the case. Guzman previously lived at the house the remains were found and was evicted from the property on August 30, 2018 as sheriff's deputies served a search warrant. Investigators found weapons, stolen trucks, and evidence of methamphetamine production on the property.

On November 2, 2018, two of the bodies found on the property were identified as Julieta Arvizu, 49, and Jose Jorge Lara Paez, 66. Arvizu and Paez were last seen on January 14, 2018 along with Arvizu's boyfriend Cuauhtemoc Lara, 39. Paez's abandoned car was later found by investigators in a Littlerock neighborhood around March 5.

Guzman was also named a person of interest in the January 20, 2018 double homicide of Gerardo "Jerry" De Luna and Mariano Campos, which occurred six miles away from the property. He was also named as a suspect in a home invasion robbery in Menifee on February 5, 2018, during which Silvano Gutierrez Esteves, 43, was killed.

Shortly before noon on November 8, 2018, Guzman was located by U.S. Marshals in the town of Charleston View on California-Nevada border. Guzman brandished a handgun at the pursuing officers and was subsequently shot and killed.
